Because the applicator roll applying the adhesive to the back of the book block has a specific format book block is designed, it must be replaced in a format change against a corresponding to the new format application roller.
  • the book production line must first be stopped for safety reasons, since the replacement, i. removal or installation of the applicator roll can only be carried out with the shuttering open. Accordingly, after the application of the adhesive to the back of the last book block belonging to the preceding production order, a machine stop is first carried out. After opening the shuttering, the previous application roller is removed and mounted on the new production order application roller. In the method known for this purpose, the applicator roll is always replaced manually.
  • the applicator roll is first pivoted away from the scoop roller by means of a manually operated adjusting spindle and then removed by hand, i. axially pushed down from its drive shaft and transported away. Subsequently, a new application roller is pushed axially onto the drive shaft, locked there and introduced by means of the manually operated adjusting spindle to the scoop roller. After closing the casing, production can be resumed and the new production order processed.

After the new application roller has been supplied, the surface must be brought back into contact with the scoop roller, ie the center distance of the new applicator roller to the scoop roller and in particular the contact pressure of the two rollers must be adjusted correctly.
  • the contact pressure must not be too large, otherwise an unnecessarily high wear of the applicator roll occurs. Because the removal or bringing the applicator roll from the or on the scoop roller is controlled manually and thus depend both their actual center distance and the contact pressure on the feeling of the machine operator, an exact reproducibility of the process is not given and increased wear of the applicator roll excluded.

Description

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for replacing an applicator roll used for applying adhesive to the back of a book block transported in a conveying direction, aligned with a scoop roller removing the adhesive from an adhesive container and applied to apply the adhesive to the back of the book block the one located in engagement with the scoop roller, first applicator roll pivoted away from the scoop roller, exchanged for a second applicator roll and this is pivoted to the scoop roller, wherein both the first and the second applicator roll a common drive shaft and the scoop roller and the drive shaft of the applicator rolls respectively have a substantially transverse to the conveying direction of the book block rotation axis. Moreover, the invention relates to a book production line with such a device.

In book production, the book block not yet provided with a book cover are conveyed by means of a transport device, while a cooperating with a scoop roller applicator roll is in each case rolled on the back of the book block, while applying adhesive. The applied on the back of the book block adhesive is used in a subsequent step to connect the book block with the book cover. The contour of the back can be both straight and round, which is why in each case a suitably trained application roller is used. Known applicator rollers are accordingly formed, for example, flat or profiled.

Solche oder ähnliche Verfahren und Vorrichtungen können der EP0873882 A1 , der DE3502733 C1 oder der DE4332069 A1 entnommen werden.Such or similar methods and apparatus may be the EP0873882 A1 , of the DE3502733 C1 or the DE4332069 A1 be removed.

A new production order usually results in a change in the format of the books to be produced in book production. Because the applicator roll applying the adhesive to the back of the book block has a specific format book block is designed, it must be replaced in a format change against a corresponding to the new format application roller.

If there is a new production order with a book format deviating from the previous one, the book production line must first be stopped for safety reasons, since the replacement, i. removal or installation of the applicator roll can only be carried out with the shuttering open.

In a first known method for this purpose, the applicator roll is first pivoted away from the scoop roller by means of a manually operated adjusting spindle and then removed by hand, i. axially pushed down from its drive shaft and transported away. Subsequently, a new application roller is pushed axially onto the drive shaft, locked there and introduced by means of the manually operated adjusting spindle to the scoop roller. After closing the casing, production can be resumed and the new production order processed.

According to a second known method, the applicator roller to be exchanged is manually disengaged from the scoop roller by means of an eccentrically mounted drive shaft, and finally the new applicator roller is brought to the scoop roller. Once the eccentric bearing has been fixed and the casing has been closed again, production can be resumed and the new production order can be processed.

In the known methods and with the known devices for replacing an applicator roll the way and bringing the applicator roll of performed manually or to the scoop roller. In this case, the in-machine, to be replaced applicator roll must first be at least as far away from the scoop roller that does not touch the scoop roller in the subsequent taking place in the axial direction pushing down the applicator roll from the drive shaft whose largest outer diameter. This also applies to the newly introduced into the machine and in the axial direction aufzuschiebende on the drive shaft applicator roll. After the new application roller has been supplied, the surface must be brought back into contact with the scoop roller, ie the center distance of the new applicator roller to the scoop roller and in particular the contact pressure of the two rollers must be adjusted correctly. On the one hand, this means that the contact pressure must be high enough to ensure the transfer of the adhesive from the surface of the scoop roller to the surface of the applicator roll. On the other hand, the contact pressure must not be too large, otherwise an unnecessarily high wear of the applicator roll occurs. Because the removal or bringing the applicator roll from the or on the scoop roller is controlled manually and thus depend both their actual center distance and the contact pressure on the feeling of the machine operator, an exact reproducibility of the process is not given and increased wear of the applicator roll excluded. In addition, the manual control of the entire replacement process is relatively time-consuming, so that results in a relatively high proportion of changeover time, especially in the production of smaller runs.

The object of the invention is therefore to provide a method and apparatus for replacing an adhesive applicator roll, which allow a faster, safe and exactly reproducible replacement of the applicator roll and thereby largely preclude increased wear of the applicator roll.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by a method having the characterizing features of claim 1 and by a device having the characterizing features of claim 6 and by a book production line according to claim 13. Advantageous embodiments are specified in the subclaims.

According to the invention, the device comprises a control device connected to the drive shaft of the applicator rollers with two interacting, with a machine control of the device operatively connected actuators. In this case, the drive shaft of the applicator rollers with the first adjusting element to the scoop roller is designed to be pivotable. With the second actuator, both an axial distance and a contact pressure between the drive shaft of the applicator rollers and the scoop roller is adjustable. During operation of the device, the first application roller is first pivoted away from the scoop roller by means of the first control element of the control device. Thereafter, an axial distance and a contact pressure between the axis of rotation of the drive shaft of the applicator rollers and the axis of rotation of the scoop roller are preset by means of the second adjusting element of the adjusting device. Subsequently, the second application roller is pivoted by means of the first control element to the scoop roller. For this purpose, the first and the second actuator are controlled accordingly by the machine control.

Due to this design of the device and the corresponding procedure, the replacement of the applicator roll can be performed safely and accurately reproducible and increased wear of the applicator roll are largely excluded. In this case, the pivoting away and pivoting of the respective applicator roll is automated, so that the time required to replace an applicator roll significantly reduced and manual misadjustments can be minimized.

According to one embodiment of the method according to the invention, the two adjusting elements of the adjusting device are jointly controlled via the machine control. In this way, the method can advantageously be operated relatively easily.

A further embodiment of the method according to the invention provides that the first actuating element is acted upon pneumatically and the second actuating element is driven by a motor. This can on the one hand a quick pivoting movement for the replacement process of the respective applicator roll and on the other hand a precise Setting the center distance and the contact pressure between the second applicator roll and the scoop roller can be realized.

According to a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, the first actuating element is pneumatically acted upon after the pivoting of the second application roller to the scoop roller and thus the applicator roller is resiliently pressed against the scoop roller. The first actuator of the device is accordingly pneumatically acted upon after the pivoting of the second applicator roll to the scoop roller and the second applicator roll formed resiliently against the scoop roller. Thus, the first actuator used for pivoting the respective applicator roll not only serves to replace the applicator roll, but can also be advantageously used as a pneumatic spring during the application of adhesive to the back of a book block, which maintains the contact pressure between the applicator roll and the scoop roller and therefore guarantees a constant adhesive film.

According to a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, the applicator roll is adjusted during the application of the adhesive to a deviating from the previous book block in height, subsequent book block while maintaining both the axial distance and the contact pressure to the scoop roller of the deviation according to their altitude. By thus avoiding the applicator roll upward, the adhesive of the same quality can advantageously also be applied to book blocks whose backs do not pass the applicator roll in the exact same horizontal plane.

According to one embodiment of the device according to the invention, the drive shaft of the applicator rollers is designed to pivot on a circular path about the rotation axis of the scoop roller. Thus, even with successive book block whose back the applicator roll does not happen in the exact same horizontal plane, maintained a constant glue gap and thus the glue supply of the applicator roll even at the applicator roller passing in different altitude book block be ensured.

In accordance with a further embodiment of the device according to the invention, the first actuating element has a first and the second actuating element has a second longitudinal axis, the two longitudinal axes enclosing a variable setting angle in a vertical plane through the conveying direction. As a result, the second actuating element can advantageously be pivoted together with the application roller.

According to a further embodiment of the device according to the invention, this has a base frame and a pivoting frame with a rotation axis and two legs, wherein the drive shaft of the applicator rollers is pivotally mounted in the pivoting frame, and wherein a first leg of the pivoting frame with the first actuating element and a second leg of Swivel frame is connected to the second actuator. Such lever mechanisms ensure good reproducibility in automated processes.

According to a further embodiment of the device according to the invention, the second actuating element has an output-side end, which is designed to be supportable on a pivotable lever of the base frame of the device. Thus, the pivoting movement of the drive shaft of the applicator rollers can be advantageously limited and a dodging of the applicator rollers are made possible with a protruding spine.

According to a further embodiment of the device according to the invention, the first actuating element has a pneumatic cylinder and the second actuating element has a spindle operatively connected to an actuator. Thus, in addition to the given by the distance of applicator roll and scoop roller contact pressure for the pushing away of the applicator roll can be adjusted by the scoop roller.

The device according to the invention is preferably used in a book production line.

The figures show a single exemplary embodiment of a device 1 according to the invention for exchanging a scoop roller 5 serving to apply adhesive to the back of a book block transported in a conveying direction 8, which is arranged in alignment with a scoop roller 5 which removes the adhesive from an adhesive container 2 ( Fig. 1 ) and applied to the application of the adhesive on the back of the book block rolled applicator roll, in which one located in engagement with the scoop roller 5, first applicator roll 3.1 pivoted away from the scoop roller 5, replaced with a second applicator roll 3.2 and this is pivoted to the scoop roller 5, both the first and the second application roller 3.1, 3.2 have a common, transverse to the conveying direction 8 of the book block arranged drive shaft 4.

The device 1 has a base frame 6 (FIG. Fig. 2 ), in which the adhesive container 2 is mounted. In the base frame 6, the scoop roller 5 is also stored, which a likewise arranged transversely to the conveying direction 8 of the book block rotation axis 5a. The first application roller 3.1 mounted on the drive shaft 4 is arranged downstream of the scoop roller 5 in the conveying direction 8.

The FIGS. 1 and 5 show front views of the device 1, wherein in each case another application roller 3.1, 3.2 is arranged in alignment with the scoop roller 5. In contrast, in the Figures 2 . 3 . 4 and 6 Sectional views represented by axes of rotation of components of the device 1.

Although neither the book block nor the transport device are explicitly shown, the figures by the representation of the conveying direction 8 and the lower edge of each responsible for the application of adhesive applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 implicitly refer both a transport device and the position of the back of the book block.

The two applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 are designed differently, i. the first application roller 3.1 has a profiled lateral surface 7.1, while the second application roller 3.2 is equipped with a smooth lateral surface 7.2. Of course, depending on the book block to be processed, applicator rollers with differently shaped lateral surfaces and applicator rollers of the same or different size can also be used.

The device 1 further comprises an adjusting device 10 for pivoting or for pivoting away the respective applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 to or from the scoop roller 5. The adjusting device 10 has a first adjusting element 17 which has a substantially arranged below the adhesive container 2 and aligned along the conveying direction 8 pneumatic cylinder 17a. Of course, another suitable design and arrangement of the first adjusting element 17 is possible, for example by means of a sprung eccentric, not shown, with which the respective applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 brought to the scoop roller 5 and is guided away from the scoop roller 5.

Ist die erste Auftragswalze 3.1 beispielsweise an die Schöpfwalze 5 herangeschwenkt, befindet sich die Rotationsachse 4a der ersten Auftragswalze 3.1 exakt senkrecht unterhalb der Rotationsachse 9a des Schwenkgestells 9 (Fig. 2, Fig. 4).The drive shaft 4 of the applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 is rotatably mounted in a first leg 19. 1 of a pivot frame 9 accommodated in the base frame 6. Accordingly, both the pivot frame 9 and the drive shaft 4 of the applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 each have a rotation axis 9a, 4a, which are arranged spaced from each other. Depending on the current setting of the first adjusting element 17, these two axes of rotation 9a, 4a are vertically more or less exactly one above the other. If the first application roller 3.1 is pivoted up, for example, to the scoop roller 5, the rotation axis 4a of the first application roller 3.1 is exactly perpendicular below the rotation axis 9a of the pivoting frame 9 (FIG. Fig. 2 . Fig. 4 ).

The pivoting frame 9, facing away from the adhesive container 2, has a second leg 19.2 extending essentially along the conveying direction 8, on which a second adjusting element 11 of the adjusting device 10 is pivotally arranged with respect to the pivoting frame 9 and non-rotatable relative thereto. The second actuating element 11 has a substantially aligned in the conveying direction 8 spindle 11a and is provided for adjusting a center distance 18 and a contact pressure between the scoop roller 5 and the respectively driven thereto applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 ( Fig. 4 . Fig. 6 ). The second actuating element 11 is driven by means of an actuator 16 and to this via a likewise arranged on the second leg 19.2 of the frame 9 gear 12 operatively connected to the actuator 16. An output-side end 11 b of the second actuating element 11 is designed to be supportable against the base frame 6. For this purpose, a pivotable about the rotation axis 5a lever 20 is arranged on the base frame, which has a stop surface 21 for the output-side end 11 b of the spindle 11 a ( Fig. 2 . Fig. 3 ). To adjust the distance between the scoop roller 18 between the scoop roller 5 and the respectively pivoted to this applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 is set by an attacking on the actuator 16 machine control 13 of the device 1, an adjustment of the second control element 11, which according to the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 and the each book block to be edited is selected.

The pneumatic cylinder 17a is attached to the base frame 6 with a first end 17.1. With a second, aligned to the applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 end 17.2 the pneumatic cylinder 17a is connected to the first leg 19.1 of the pivoting frame 9.

The two adjusting elements 17, 11, ie the pneumatic cylinder 17a and the spindle 11a act together or against each other. They each have an axis 17 c, 11 c, which in a vertical plane through the conveying direction 8 include a variable adjustment angle 14 ( Fig. 3 ). The adjusting angle 14 is variable in order to enable the second adjusting element 11 to be pivoted together with the applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2. Different diameters of the application rollers 3.1, 3.2 are taken into account when adjusting the second control element 11, so that the adjustment of the first control element 17 thereof remains independent.

The dimensions of the pneumatic cylinder 17a are selected so that in the extended state, the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 so far apart from the scoop roller 5 that it does not touch the scoop roller 5 when replacing. In the retracted position, the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 is pressed by the pneumatic cylinder 17a to the scoop roller 5.

As soon as the respective applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 to the scoop roller 5 abuts the output side end 11 b of the spindle 11 a on the stop surface 21 of the pivotal lever 20 disposed on the base frame 6, a further pivoting of the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 limited by means of the pneumatic cylinder 17 a ( Fig. 2 . Fig. 4 . Fig. 6 ). With the correct pressure setting on the pneumatic cylinder 17 a, the spindle 11 a with the output side end 11 b contact with the stop surface 21 on the lever 20 and presses only slightly against this stop surface 21. The stroke length of the pneumatic cylinder 17 a is chosen so that it has the function of pneumatic spring takes over, ie in the retracted state a cylinder piston 17b of the pneumatic cylinder 17a may never reach the end position. As a result, the air pressure is applied to one side of the piston surface of the cylinder piston 17b and the pneumatic cylinder 17a acts as a tension spring. In this way, the pneumatic cylinder 17a is acted upon by the pivoting of the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 to the scoop roller 5 and the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 resiliently against the Scoop roller 5 pressed. In addition, the contact pressure of the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 can be variably adjusted by means of a proportional valve 17d or a pressure reducer, not shown.

If a book block with an offset back up to the applicator roll 3.1, 3.2, he pushes from below against the applicator roll 3.1, 3.2. The pressure force is introduced via the drive shaft 4 in the pivot frame 9 and via this in the lever 20. This pivots about the axis of rotation 5a of the scoop roller 5, which causes the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 can escape upwards. In this case, the axial distance 18 between the rotation axis 5a of the scoop roller 5 and the rotation axis 4a of the drive shaft 4 of the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 hardly changed because of the pressure force of the pneumatic cylinder 17a, because this ensures that the contact between the spindle 11a and the stop surface 21st of the lever 20 is not lost. The applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 can thereby be adjusted during the application of the adhesive to a deviating from the previous book block in height, subsequent book block while maintaining both the center distance 18 and the contact pressure to the scoop roller 5 of the deviation according to their altitude and especially in a Dodge his bookcase upwards from his back.

Since the spindle 11 a used for changing the axial spacing 18 of the applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 is arranged on the pivoting frame 9 of the device 1, it is pivotable together with the pivoting frame 9 about its axis of rotation 9 a. Thus, the spindle 11 a is always ready for use and requires no change position. This results in a very cost-effective solution, which can significantly simplify the conversion to the subsequent production order.

When processing a current production order for the production of books, the scoop roller 5 removes an adhesive from the adhesive container 2 and transfers it to an applicator position in the form of an adhesive film on one of the applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2, which has been pivoted to the scoop roller 5 in advance is. Between the scoop roller 5 and the adhesive container 2, a glue gap, not shown, is set for this purpose.

The directions of rotation of the respective applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 and the scoop roller 5 are in the same direction. The adhesive film is transferred in the order position of the lateral surface 7.1, 7.2 of the respective applicator roll 3.1, 3.2 on the back of the book block, with the book block and located in contact with the book block section of the lateral surface 7.1, 7.2 move along the conveying direction 8.

When replacing an applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 is the first actuator 17 for pivoting or for pivoting the respective applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 to or from the scoop roller 5. By means of the second control element 11, the center distance 18 between the scoop roller 5 and the respective applicator roll 3.1, 3.2 adjustable. For this purpose, the machine controller 13 can either pretend an adjusting path for the second adjusting element 11 and thus for a corresponding adjustment path of the respective applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 and also a contact pressure of the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 to the scoop roller 5. This is advantageous because the scoop roller 5 is convexly formed at its periphery and the adhesive could not be completely transferred without a corresponding adjustment of the applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2.

Since the machine control 13, the respectively used applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 are known by the present format data of the book block to be produced, both the required center distance 18 and the corresponding contact pressure can be advantageously preset via operatively connected to the machine control 13 drives. Thus, the relatively large difference of a flat compared to a round applicator roll compensated and associated with increased wear, excessive contact pressure of the respective pressure roller 3.1, 3.2 can be avoided.

If, in book production, a work order subsequent to the current work order, and in particular a change in the format of the book blocks associated therewith, necessitates a change of the application rollers 3.1, 3.2, then In a known manner, first the glue gap of the scoop roller 5 is reduced to zero. In order for the used on the work order for applying the adhesive to the back of the book block used applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 remaining adhesive is transferred to the scoop roller 5 and conveyed from there back into the adhesive container 2. Then the according to FIG. 1 until then used first application roller 3.1 by means of the drive shaft 4 connected and operatively connected to the machine control 13, the first actuating element 17 of the actuator 10 is pivoted away from the scoop roller 5 and then by means of the also connected to the drive shaft 4 and operatively connected to the machine control 13 second actuator 11th the adjusting device 10, a center distance 18 and a contact pressure between the rotation axis 4a of the drive shaft 4 of the applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 and the rotation axis 5a of the scoop roller 5 preset. After the first applicator roll 3.1 removed from the device 1, that is axially pushed down from its drive shaft 4 and transported away, the second application roller 3.2 required for the subsequent work order is introduced into the device 1, that is axially pushed onto the drive shaft 4 and locked there. Thereafter, the glue gap of the scoop roller 5 is restored and the second application roller 3.2 by means of the first control element 17 pivoted back to the scoop roller 5. For this purpose, the first and the second control element 17, 11 are driven by the machine control 13 accordingly. In this way, the second application roller 3.2 is set within a short time to the subsequent work order and can apply adhesive, for example, on book blocks with a different format.

The machine control 13 are the applicator rollers used for use 3.1, 3.2 predetermined by the format data of the book block to be produced. The applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 are coded and provided with appropriate names. They are displayed on a display, not shown, of the machine. The available applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 is in the machine control 13 associated with a specific center distance 18, which is preset in the weggeschwenkten by the scoop roller 5 position of the applicator roll 3.1, 3.2 on the spindle 11 a of the second control element 11. The setting of the center distance 18 and the Replacing the applicator roller 3.1, 3.2 can be done simultaneously and independently, so no additional waiting time arises. After the operator removed the previous application roller 3.1, 3.2 from the machine and replaced by the predetermined by the machine control 13 applicator roll 3.2, 3.1, he reports this to the machine control 13. This acts on the pneumatic cylinder 17a with compressed air and the built-in applicator roll 3.2., 3.1 pivots back to the scoop roller 5. This makes the machine ready for production for the next order. The applicator rollers 3.1, 3.2 are connected via a non-illustrated quick release with the drive shaft 4, so that the replacement can be performed by the operator within a short period of time.

Exemplary is in FIG. 1 the first application roller 3.1 and in FIG. 5 the second applicator roll 3.2 aligned with the scoop roller 5 and arranged pivoted to this, so that the adhesive can be applied to a book block with rounded back and the other on book block with a straight back.

In FIG. 6 is the second application roller 3.2 in an order position, in which it has been pivoted to the scoop roller 5 after replacing the applicator roller 3.1. The center distance 18 is selected so that the scoop roller 5, the lateral surface 7.2 of the second application roller pushes 3.2. In this case, the lateral surface 7.2 takes on the shape of the scoop roller 5, so that the adhesive is transferred from the scoop roller 5 over the entire surface to the same direction driven, rotating applicator roller 3.2.

The base frame 6 of the device 1 accommodating the adhesive container 2 and the scooping roller 5 is equipped with an upstream pivot axis 6a. By means of this pivot axis 6a and a further actuator 15 of the adhesive container 2 is raised or lowered formed ( Fig. 1 . Fig. 5 ). Thus, the glue gap to the scoop roller 5 can be adjusted via the further actuator 15.
