Description

The present invention relates to the field of the necessities of life and in particular to the field of bedding and sleeping ensuring a relaxed and complete sleep.

Indeed a deep and relaxing sleep is conditioned by the position of the body and especially of the head which must allow a relaxation of the cervical muscles, intervertebral discs and at the same time the adequate support of the head without risk of deformation of the cranial box, particularly in newborns and very young children (see French patent 2913578 ).

The present invention relates to an orthopedic pillow of progressive comfort that adapts to the morphology of each individual and is specifically designed to achieve positioning and proper support of the head, neck and spine.

These include a progressive comfort pillow that has two angular blocks of flexible material contiguous in opposite directions by their angular faces, the upper part of one flocking with the lower part of the other, so that the lower face and the upper face of the pillow are preferably parallel, and a block has a different flexibility with respect to the other block to obtain a continuous variation of flexibility over the entire width. Materials of different flexibility and firmness may also be of different types, for example, viscoelastic memory foam, springs, cellular foam, latex or with air or water bags.

This special assembly makes it possible to obtain distinct positions with four types of support and comfort, each of these positions benefiting from numerous different lift zones. Such a pillow is known to DE 299 00 237 U1 .

According to the position adopted by the sleeper, the thrust exerted differs: a first position where the upper zone of the maintenance of the head is mainly flexible then closes in extreme depth while the zone of the cervical is firm in zone of reception then immediately more flexible , a second position where the upper zone of the maintenance of the head is mainly firm then supple in extreme depth while the zone of the cervical is firm in zone of reception then immediately more flexible, a third position where the upper zone of the maintenance of the head is substantially fair, firm on the surface and flexible in depth while the cervical area is mainly firm and flexible in extreme depth, a fourth position where the upper zone of the head support is noticeably equilibrium, flexible in the surface and firm at depth, whereas the cervical zone is mainly supple and then closed at an extreme depth.

This pillow provides adequate support for the head, vertebrae and intervertebral discs, muscles, ligaments and nerves.

Thanks to the superposition of the two blocks, to the different suppleness and firmness of the material and to the zones of lift differentiated from one zone to another, the whole follows the contours of the zones of the body supported and removes the points of compression to achieve complete muscular and vertebral relaxation. The object of the invention is to distribute at best the force exerted to avoid overpressure or underpressure.

The different positions of the pillow allow to distribute the pressures to obtain a nuanced absorption of the head and the neck. We do not preform the pillow so as not to constrain the head and cervical in a given position but on the contrary, it is the different positions, areas of lift and matter that fit the forms.

In addition, the pillow is achievable of different thicknesses, to allow to release the shoulder in position on the side, which directly affects the pressures of the head and cervical and changes the wrap and comfort in position on the back. In addition, this pillow is available in different sizes with or without rounded corners.

This pillow can also be used for people who have to sleep in a sitting position (asthma problem, gastric reflux) or comfort position (television, reading) or in different places for any type of job related to comfort.

This pillow is for everyone, as a preventive and for anyone with medical and physiological problems.

The goal for the user is to have four pillows in one. This makes it possible to find the position best suited to his comfort and personal support.

With this special assembly, we can vary the firmness and flexibility of the two blocks thus obtaining different results. It is also possible to have two identical blocks of the same size or two blocks of different dimensions, one being thicker than the other, thus making it possible to modulate the effect of flexibility and firmness. The angular faces may have different shapes, they are straight or curved, one being concave and the other convex, they may have complementary corrugated surfaces, the protruding parts of one nesting in the hollow parts of the other. The assembly of the contiguous oblique parts is feasible by a mechanical connection type interlocking and / or bonding. The two blocks may be of the same shape: from a rectangular triangle section or trapezoidal section or be of different shapes by a combination of a triangular section and a trapezoidal section, the two angular faces occupying the entire surface projected the pillow or only a portion, the trapezoidal block being a triangular or angular trapezium and the side corresponding to the small height of the trapezoid is zero and then defined by an angle.

As an indication and not limitation, the pillow can be covered with two covers, a first compressing the two blocks against each other to ensure alone or in addition to a possible mechanical assembly without glue. A second hypoallergenic removable and washable cover, simple or wrapped in fibers or other conventional materials such as silk, wool, down, (all for ventilation and comfort) provided with visual and tactile recognition means of different positions, even at night, such as distinct colors according to the faces and ribs and / or spacing and seam shapes according to the faces and sides.

The tests carried out by the Applicant showed that there was another problem to be solved to ensure the complete rest of the sleeper. This is the position of the shoulders either in the sleeping position on the side or in the sleeping position on the back. This problem has found a more satisfactory solution according to the invention by placing on a pillow having specific reception areas, an additional area intended to receive the shoulder of the sleeper, consisting of a notch cut in both sides of the pillow. This notch is placed at similar or different levels and preferably at the middle portion of the pillow.

According to one embodiment, the invention more particularly relates to an improved sleeping article providing a holding position and comfort position decubitus.

It specifically relates to an ergonomic pillow memory shape, consisting in particular of four distinct parts and assembled together characterized in that it comprises a reception area for the maintenance of cervical, a reception area to absorb the shoulder in lateral position or flat on the back, a zone of reception of the head and the assembly being assembled with various progressive cuts.

In the earlier French patent application (application no. 10/00882 filed on 4 March 2010 ) the Applicant has described a progressive comfort pillow, formed of triangular blocks interlocking with the symmetrical parts, the lower part of one being hooked to the upper part of the other part to make an assembly to parallel outer faces.

The BF document 2778834 describes for this purpose an ergonomic pillow intended to maintain both the head, the neck and the scapular region in optimal position of safety and well-being during sleep on the back or on the side. The complex pillow includes a recess for receiving the head between cushioning beads and the shoulder of the sleeper on the side, in another indentation. The neck-head-shoulder assembly is thus supported and raised by inclined planes, especially in the position on the back. The assembly thus formed is raised by as many shims necessary to obtain the straightness and well being of the vertebrae and the head, regardless of the position of the sleeper.

As indicated in this document, thanks to the superposition of the two blocks showing flexibility and firmness different from the material and to the zones of lift differentiated from one zone to another, the assembly thus formed follows the contours areas of the body supported and suppresses pressure points, to obtain satisfactory muscle and vertebral relaxation.

It is in the form of a constriction arranged in the shape of the pillow symmetrically reducing the section of the pillow.

In this way the sleeper he adopts the sleeping position on the left side or on the right side or flat on the back, will find a head support fairly firm and flexible, or conversely thanks to the texture of the 'pillow and a push and hold of the birth of the cervical, support more or less flexible depending on the side used of the pillow. The different progressive cutouts of the pillow and the method of assembly of the different blocks of material, such as viscoelastic memory foam, mainly a foam derived from soybean oil, makes it possible to choose between a multitude of different densities to obtain different types of pillow with different characteristics of elasticity or rigidity such as soft / comfort or comfort / tonic.

The strangulation performed in the cut of the pillow is in the form of an inflection of the section of the surface of the pillow. This recess has the effect of locally reducing the section of the pillow a few centimeters at its middle portion, this which has the effect of allowing a different flexibility and elasticity, to better adapt to the birth of the cervical and allow first the tip of the movement of the shoulder.

Consequently, the ergonomic pillow according to the invention is formed of two blocks of flexible materials, such as viscoelastic foam or any elastic material, assembled symmetrically face-to-face to form a set of prismatic shape whose upper and lower surfaces are curved and whose prismatic part on each side is formed on the one hand of two elongated sections and on the other hand of a narrowed portion in the middle.

The ergonomic pillow according to this embodiment has variable thicknesses such as different heights. It can have parts of various thicknesses. It also has the advantage of having many areas of varying elasticity. Thus, the pillow may have two firm zones at the upper part and two flexible zones at the bottom, or two flexible zones at the top and two firm zones at the bottom. Similarly in each of the parts there can be a firm zone and a flexible zone. The objective is therefore to achieve an ergonomic pillow having many different areas of elasticity likely to achieve a sleeping means perfectly suited to the anatomy of the sleeper and also his sleeping habits or his muscular relaxation needs.

According to this particular embodiment, preferably the two assembled parts comprise various progressive cuts whose bending contributes to the desired degree of elasticity and flexibility of the assembly, after assembly. It is also possible that the two parts of the pillow have a flat surface and the assembly will be done by means of curved surfaces leaving between them a hollow zone thus providing a variable elasticity greater or smaller, depending on the nature of the material used as foam.

It may further be advantageous that the two parts are of different thickness so as to better adapt to the morphology of the sleeper. In a particular way, the two parts of the ergonomic pillow according to this embodiment will have the same thickness.

The constituent material of these two parts is preferably a polyurethane foam obtained by polymerization of an isocyanate formed by reaction with soybean oil.

The polymer obtained may have varying degrees of polymerization, conditioning the elasticity and flexibility of the material. It is thus possible to obtain very rigid, fairly rigid or flexible polymer blocks. Flexible materials have the advantage of manifesting a shape memory.

The dimensions of the ergonomic pillow according to this embodiment can also vary. The usual size of the pillow may be 50 to 80 cm long, 25 to 45 cm wide and have a thickness ranging from 6 to 15 cm. A preferred dimension is of the order of 55 cm long, 35 cm wide and 8 to 11 cm thick. The pillow can also be made to measure (thickness, width, length) depending on the morphological problems of the subject or the dimensions of the sleeping medium.

The curved shape of the set allows to gather areas with different characteristics, ensuring a very firm cervical reception with support of the head also firm and flexible or a slightly firm and quickly flexible cervical reception while providing support for the head regularly firm then flexible. The ergonomic pillow according to this embodiment is intended to be placed in a single fabric cover having visual cues of different colors, or phosphorescent or luminescent visual cues to allow proper placement, with tactile mark, pass hair with notch or embroidery.

It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described, it is quite possible to provide alternative embodiments without departing from the scope of the invention as defined by the claims.

Claims (19)

1. A progressive-comfort ergonomic pillow, comprising two flexible angular blocks (1,2), the two blocks being attached in reverse directions by their oblique face (3,3',3',3"'), the two blocks being in distinct material so that one of the block presents a different firmness and flexibility than the other block in order to obtain a continuous variation of flexibility in the direction of the width of the ergonomic pillow, the two blocks defining four distinct support areas (A,B,C,D) that each represents a position of use of the ergonomic pillow, each position benefiting from many areas providing different support :

   - in the first position, the area of the pillow dedicated to hold the head is essentially flexible then firm at extreme depth, whereas the area of the pillow dedicated to hold the cervicals is firm then immediately more flexible,

   - in the second position, the area of the pillow dedicated to hold the head is mainly firm then flexible at extreme depth, whereas the area of the pillow dedicated to hold the cervicals is firm in the accommodating area then immediately more flexible,

   - in the third position, the area of the pillow dedicated to hold the head is substantially even-handed, firm on the surface then flexible at depth, whereas the area of the pillow dedicated to hold the cervicals is mainly firm then flexible at extreme depth,

   - in the fourth position, the area of the pillow dedicated to hold the head is substantially even-handed, flexible on the surface then firm at depth, whereas the area of the pillow dedicated to hold the cervicals is mainly flexible then firm at extreme depth,

   characterized in that it comprises specific accommodating areas and presenting two sides dedicated in use to face the shoulders of a sleeping person, at least one notch (12) being cut in each said side, each notch taking the form of an inflection of the section of the pillow which locally reduces the section of the pillow, the notch being dedicated to receive at least one shoulder of the sleeping person when the sleeping person is in position lying on the side or in position lying on the back.
2. The pillow as claimed in claim 1, wherein the two blocks (1,2) have a right-angled triangle section.
3. The pillow as claimed in claim 1, wherein the two blocks (1,2) have a trapezoidal section.
4. The pillow as claimed in claim 1, wherein the two blocks (1,2) are of the same shapes and of the same dimensions.
5. The pillow as claimed in one of claims 1, 2 or 3, wherein the two blocks (1,2) are of different dimensions, one of the block being thicker than the other block.
6. The pillow as claimed in claim 5, wherein one of the block has a trapezoidal section (1) and the other block has a triangular section (2).
7. The pillow as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the angular faces (3) of each block are straight.
8. The pillow as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the angular faces (3') of each block are incurved according to a straight generatrix, the angular face of one of the block being concave and the angular face of the other block being convex.
9. The pillow as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the angular faces (3",3"') have complementary corrugated surfaces that are regular (3") or irregular (3"'), the protruding parts of one of the angular face being dedicated to interlock in the hollow parts of the other angular face in order to allow a mechanical-type interlocking between the two blocks.
10. The pillow as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the attached angular faces of the two blocks are assembled by a mechanical link of interlocking and/or bonding type.
11. The pillow as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the pillow is jacketed by :

    - a first slip which compresses the two blocks one against the other, making it possible to ensure and/or complete a possible mechanical assembly between the two blocks, and

    - by a second removable anallergenic slip, which further comprises visual and/or tactile recognition means, such as distinct color and/or spacing and form of the stitching, making it possible to differentiate the different positions of use of the ergonomic pillow and different firmness characteristics for each of the position of use.
12. The pillow as claimed in claim 1, in which the notch is arranged on either side of the median part of the pillow.
13. The pillow as claimed in one of the preceding claims, wherein the material of which the pillow is made has a plurality of different densities conferring different types of flexibility on the pillow.
14. The pillow as claimed in one of the preceding claims, wherein the pillow comprises different blocks (11, 11') of different materials and of different cuttings which give to the pillow areas of different elasticity.
15. The pillow as claimed the preceding claim, in which the areas of different elasticity gives to the pillow holding of the type flexible/comfort or comfort/tonic.
16. The pillow as claimed in one of the preceding claims, wherein the pillow is formed from two blocks of flexible materials (11, 11'), as viscoelastic materials, the two blocks being assembled symmetrically face against face to form an assembly of prismatic form, the top and bottom faces of which are incurved, the prismatic portion of each side of which is formed, on the one hand, from two elongate sections, and, on the other hand, from a segment narrowed in its middle.
17. The pillow as claimed in one of the preceding claim, wherein the pillow comprises two blocks (11, 11') that are assembled symmetrically face against face, each face being incurved so that said incurved faces leave a hollow between them.

19. The pillow as claimed in one of claims 1 to 18, wherein the height of the pillow is variable so that the pillow has an asymmetrical surface, one part being higher than the other.
