Description

MATTRESS FILLING FOR PILLOWS, CUSHIONS, SEATS AND BACKS
OF ARMCHAIRS, SOFAS AND CHAIRS.
DESCRIPTION
The present patent concerns mattress fillings in viscoelastic polyurethane foam, and in particular it concerns mattress fillings with differentiated load-bearing capacity for pillows, cushions, seats and backs of armchairs, sofas and chairs. At present armchairs, sofas and chairs are increasingly widespread and used that have seats and backs whose internal filling is made of a foam material, like for example latex, viscoelastic polyurethane foam or other types of material.
Pillows and cushions with filling in a foam material are also known.
It is known that the user's comfort depends on his/her posture when he/she is in a seated, lying or semi-lying position.
Said posture is strongly affected by the filling, whose shape, rigidity and consistency must be suitable for the different needs of each individual user.
A filling whose quality is scarce or that is shaped in an incorrect way can in fact cause serious problems to the user, causing pain that is in fact due to a prolonged incorrect posture.
For example, concerning pillows or cushions, it is important that they guarantee correct support to the back of the neck and the cervical vertebra, in order to prevent the appearance of pain due to a prolonged incorrect posture assumed during the night.
Fillings with differentiated load-bearing capacity are known, which are obtained by means of cuts, chambers, pockets created in the body of the filling, or through the use of different foam materials for areas with different load-bearing capacity. The use of different foam materials is much more common than the creation of cuts or chambers, mainly for the sake of simplicity.
The fillings consisting of two different materials are generally obtained by foaming and sintering the material of a first part in a suitable mould, and by successively positioning said first part, completely formed, inside a second mould in which the second material is foamed and sintered.
Since the two materials are similar, or in any case compatible with each other, when the second material is foamed and sintered it adheres and becomes attached to the surface of the first material, so that the two parts are joined together. In order to improve the differentiation in load-bearing capacity, heat transmission and user satisfaction, some mattress fillings are provided with pads, panels or inserts made of gel or other materials similar to gel.
The fillings with gel elements are produced using the same process adopted for the fillings made of two materials: the gel element is produced and then placed inside the mould in which the material making up the body of the filling is successively foamed and sintered.
The fillings with elements made of gel produced in this way are easy and quick to manufacture but pose several drawbacks and problems.
Due to the different chemical-physical characteristics of the foam material and the gel used, the connection between the body of the filling and the gel elements is not stable and long-lasting, in fact said gel elements tend to detach from the body of the filling over time.
The characteristics, and more precisely the foaming and sintering physical parameters of the material that makes up the body of the filling must be accurately evaluated in order to avoid damaging the gel elements during foaming, sintering and successive hardening of the material of the body, and this does not always happen.
To remedy all the drawbacks described above a new type of filling for pillows, cushions, seats and backrests of armchairs, sofas and chairs has been designed and produced, said filling comprising a body made of a foam material and one or more gel elements.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a new filling comprising a body made of a foam material joined in a stable and lasting manner to each gel element. Another object of the invention is to produce a new mattress filling whose body is made of a foam material with physical-chemical foaming characteristics that are not compatible with the gel elements.
A further object of the invention is to provide a new mattress filling comprising gel elements with constant thickness also in the areas where the filling body has bumps or depressions.
The advantage offered by the present invention lies in that it guarantees correct support of the involved parts of the body, for example the back of the neck, the cervical vertebra, the neck, shoulders, back, etc. A further advantage offered by the present invention is represented by its high breathability.
These and other direct and complementary objects are achieved by the new mattress filling with differentiated load-bearing capacity for pillows, cushions, seats and backrests of armchairs, sofas and chairs, wherein said filling comprises a body having on its upper surface waved and/or shaped bumps or depressions, joined to one or more elements made of gel or a gel-like material.
The body of the filling can be coupled with further layers, each one formed by foam material with equal or different elasticity, compressibility, deformability characteristics.
Said bumps or depressions are preferably obtained through the removal of material after foaming and sintering of the body.
The gel elements are constituted by substantially flat elements suited to be applied, for example, to the long sides of the body of the filling, on both the flat and the shaped parts.
In a possible embodiment of the invention said foam material is viscoelastic polyurethane.
In particular, said gel elements are constituted by a layer of a colloidal substance in the semi-solid state, typically polyol, having constant thickness, and fabric is applied to one of the long sides.
The gel layer substantially has an indicative thickness of a few millimetres, up to 10-15 mm.
The gel elements are preferably applied to the long side provided with bumps and/or depressions of said body of said filling, after application of suitable adhesive substances, typically water-based glue, which is absolutely non-toxic and harmless for health, or a similar substance.
In particular, said adhesive substances are such as not to affect the chemical- physical characteristics of the body and of the gel elements of the filling.
Said adhesive substances are preferably but not exclusively applied to said fabric of the gel elements and to the surface of the body where said fabric is applied.
Said adhesive substances substantially provide for joining the material of the body of the filling to the fabric of the gel elements. The gel elements which are applied in this way to the body of the filling follow the surface shape of said body, that is, they also follow the surface bumps and depressions of the upper and lower layer of the body of the filling.
According to the invention, the body of the filling can be provided with through holes intended to allow transpiration.
Always according to the invention, said gel layer is provided with small or large holes distributed on its entire surface and suited to allow transpiration.
The attached drawing shows, by way of non-limiting example, a practical embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 shows an axonometric and sectional view of an example of embodiment of the new mattress filling (I) where it is possible to see the body (C) to which a gel element (G) is applied.
In this figure one corner of the gel element (G) is raised for illustrative purposes. Each gel element (G) consists of a layer of gel (Gl), to the long side of which a connection fabric (G2) is applied.
The connection between the body (C) and the gel elements (G) is obtained through the application of adhesive, that is, water-based glue, in such a way as to avoid damaging or modifying the characteristics of the body (C) and of the gel elements (G) and to join the body (C) and the gel elements (G) in a stable and lasting manner.
Figure 2 shows a sectional view of an example of embodiment of the new mattress filling (I) where the body (C) presents waved and/or shaped bumps or depressions (V).
The gel elements (G) cover both the flat parts and the parts with bumps or depressions of the body (C).
Figure 3 shows a sectional view of a preferred embodiment of the new mattress filling (I) where the body (C) with bumps or depressions (V) is joined to further layers (CI, C2) of equal or different foam materials.
The gel layer (G) covers both the flat parts and the parts with bumps or depressions of the body (C), following said bumps or depressions of the body (C).
According to the invention, said one or more gel elements (G) can be applied to the entire surface of the filling (I).
Therefore, with reference to the above description and the attached drawing, the following claims are expressed.
