[57] ABSTRACT An adjustable pillow apparatus having a pair of pillow sections to form a pillow, each pillow section having a wedge shaped portion so that the pillow sections can be adjusted along their wedge shaped portions to vary the shape of the pillow. Attachment members attached to each pillow section allow the pillow sections to be removably attached at any desired position along the angled surfaces of the wedge shaped portions of the pillow sections.
2 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures ADJUSTABLE PILLOW APPARATUS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION nesses for different individuals. Pillows also come in I different degrees of firmness. A foam, polystyrene pillow might for instance come in thicknesses of 4, 6 or 8 inches. However, difficulties arise when individuals are staying away from hone, such as in motels, hospitals or with other friends, at which.time pillows are provided which may not be suited to the individual and which can result in difficulty in sleeping and in cricks in the individual s neck. It is accordingly one advantage of the present invention to combine an adjustable pillow which may be adjustable for different individuals to provide additional comfort.
In the past it has been taught to have compartmentalized pillows some of which employ inserts and inflatable center portions in order to change the consistency of the pillow and especially the firmness of the pillow.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An adjustable headrest pillow is provided having a pair of pillow sections to form the pillow. Each pillow section has a wedge shaped portion with an angled surface, with one pillow section wedge shaped portion being removably connected and adjustable along the other pillow section wedge shaped portion. Removable attachment members are attached to each wedge shaped portion of each pillow'section for attaching said pillow sections together in different positions along the wedge shaped portions so that the shape of the pillow can be adjusted by re-attachingthe wedge shaped portions of the pillow sections togetherat different locations along the angled surfaces. i 1
In the preferred embodiment, a material'such as Velcro is utilized for removably attaching the pillow sections together.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS I Other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the written description and the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the separated pillo in accordance with the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of pillow sections attached together; and
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of an adjustable pillow with the sections separated.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 2, an adjustable pillow 10 is illustrated having a pillow section 11 having a wedge shaped or angled surface 12 and a pillow section 13 having a wedge shaped or angled surface 14. The pillow sections 11 and 13 would typically be filled with a foam plastic or foam rubber material and might typically be 18 X 24 inches, or the like. A headboard 15 is illustrated to show the location of a pillow in the bed and the wedge portion 12 of pillow section 11 has onehalf of removable attachment means 16 which is in the form of two strips of Velcro and may have a third strip of Velcro 17 located thereon also. Strips l6 and I7 typically face upward on the pillow while the other half of the removable attachment system 18 is illustrated as a plurality of strips of the other half of the Velcro strips. This material utilizes'two different surfaces that, when put together, engage each other for holding the two surfaces together, but it should of course be realized that snaps or other attachment means could be utilized without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. The materials are placed on the wedge shaped sections 12 and 14 in a manner that strips 16 and 18 can be lined up anywhere along the wedge shaped portions for adjusting the pillow over a wide range of the angled surfaces. The strip 17 works in conjunction with the strip of material 20 and attaches to any portion along the strip 20 for providing additional strength while being completely concealed to the user of the pillow. The portions of the strips 16 on the pillow section 11 would of course be visible except when the pillow is in its shortest position.
FIG. 2 more clearly illustrates how the pillows are attached relative to each other.
Referring now to FIG. 3, a second embodiment is illustrated in which a pair of pillow sections 21 and 22 have the wedge shaped surfaces 23 and 24 as previously described, but in this view the attachment means are located and'are attached to sides 25 and 26 of the pillow sections 22 and 23 respectively. Side 24 of pillow section 22 has a strip of attachment material 27 attached along its edge which could typically be a 2 inch strip of material. Side 26 of pillow section 23 has a strip of material 28 attached thereto-and protruding over the edge of the pillow so that it can grip the material 27 following the aligning of the pillow to a desired adjustable position. One strip of attaching material 20 is also used on pillow 21 with a perpendicular strip 17 on pillow 22 to provide'additional support. I
It should be clear at this point that an-adjustable pillow has been provided which maybe easily adjusted for different individuals and which adjust the length of the pillow as well as its thickness by having a distinct pillow section sliding over a second distinct pillow section. However, it should also be realized that this invention is not to be construed as limited to the particular forms disclosed herein since these are to be regarded as illustrative rather than restrictive.
I claim:
1. An adjustable headrest pillow comprising in combination a pair of pillow sections forming a pillow, each pillow section having a wedgeshaped portion; onepillow section wedge-shaped portion being connected to and adjustable along the other pillow section wedgeshaped portion; removable attachment means attached to each wedge-shaped portion of each pillow section for removably attaching said pillow sections together at different portions along the wedge-shaped portions; said removable attachment means including a plurality of Velcro strips attached to each wedge-shaped portion of each pillow section for attaching the pillow sections together; at least one said strip on one pillow section running substantially perpendicular to a second strip on the second pillow section, whereby the shape of the pilon one edge of the pillow sections and a second piece of material attached to the second pillow section protruding over one edge thereof for attachment to the opposite strip of material on the opposite pillow section.
Claims (2)
1. An adjustable headrest pillow comprising in combination a pair of pillow sections forming a pillow, each pillow section having a wedge-shaped portion; one pillow section wedge-shaped portion being connected to and adjustable along the other pillow section wedge-shaped portion; removable attachment means attached to each wedge-shaped portion of each pillow section for removably attaching said pillow sections together at different portions along the wedge-shaped portions; said removable attachment means including a plurality of Velcro strips attached to each wedgeshaped portion of each pillow section for attaching the pillow sections together; at least one said strip on one pillow section running substantially perpendicular to a second strip on the second pillow section, whereby the shape of the pillow can be adjusted by reattaching said wedge-shaped portions of said pillow sections together at different locations.
2. The apparatus in accordance with claim 1 in which the removable attachment means has a strip of material on one edge of the pillow sections and a second piece of material attached to the second pillow section protruding over one edge thereof for attachment to the opposite strip of material on the opPosite pillow section.
