Description

The present invention relates to a vehicle restraint system for laterally securing a roadway with a sidewalk limiting the roadway wall construction.

Such vehicle restraint systems are known from the prior art. In the recent past reinforced concrete structures have been used which have an upwardly tapering profile. Such profiles are referred to, for example, as a "New Jersey profile" or as a "step profile". It has been shown that such concrete structures have the advantage of not yielding in an impact situation and can therefore be used in relatively narrow installation situations for securing roadways. This supposed advantage, however, has serious consequences for the occupants of an impacting vehicle. The fact that the concrete structure does not yield in the event of a collision results in the entire impact energy having to be dissipated by the vehicle itself. Due to the conical profiling of the construction, it regularly happens that, in particular, smaller lightweight vehicles ascend as a result of an impact on the construction, are deflected back to the roadway and then fall back onto the roadway. This results in significant fluctuations of the vehicle, which are transmitted to the vehicle occupants. At worst, as a result of such an impact, the occupants may hit their head against a side rail of the vehicle, causing serious injury. Even in the absence of such a striking lead the considerable fluctuations that result from the sudden rejection of the vehicle from the non-compliant concrete structures, significant force on the body of the driver and any vehicle occupants, the massive internal injuries to neck bridges by themselves.

Precisely because such serious injuries occur more frequently, it is being considered recently how existing concrete constructions can be made safer.

In the prior art, further vehicle restraint systems can be found again. The FR 2 852 979 A1 and the WO 2011/029975 A2 each reveal a slip protection for motorcyclists.

Further, the WO 2006/089321 A2 a protector connected via an elastic spacer connected to the stand (s) so as to provide an enlarged crumple zone for a colliding mating beach.

In addition, the reveals US 2004/0 197 140 A1 a possibility to aesthetically beautify already existing crash barriers.

The document WO 02/40779 A1 discloses a plurality of deformable components intended to be attached to a rigid shut-off assembly.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a vehicle restraint system of the type described, which avoids the disadvantages described above.

This object is achieved by a vehicle restraint system having the features of patent claim 1.

According to the invention, therefore, an elastomeric sheet is attached to an existing wall construction, in particular to a concrete structure on the side facing the roadway. This elastomeric track is stiffened to prevent the elastomeric track from being destroyed and substantially ineffective at the high forces involved as a result of vehicle impact. Second, it provides a massive increase in the friction factor between the impacting vehicle and the vehicle restraint system An increase of the vehicle to the vehicle restraint system due to the friction is largely prevented. Rather, the vehicle is braked sharply and rubs so to speak along the vehicle restraint system until it is deflected back to the roadway after reducing a significant proportion of the impact forces.

The invention thus has the advantage that already existing vehicle restraint systems but also newly installed vehicle restraint systems made of concrete can be provided with a corresponding elastomeric track and thus made safer. The frictional effect has the advantage that the vehicle rubs along the wall construction and is decelerated accordingly.

According to one embodiment of the invention can be provided that the elastomeric web has a plurality of composite rubber-like composite mats. Thus, it is possible that the elastomer mats are dimensioned in their length corresponding to the shooting distance of individual wall elements of the wall construction. But they can also be made longer or shorter. A development of the invention provides that the stiffening structure is formed by a lattice structure or a honeycomb structure. It has been shown that the formation of the stiffening structure in the form of a grid structure or a honeycomb structure leads to a considerable stiffening, so that destruction can be counteracted. Also have corresponding stiffening structures - grid or honeycomb - damping effect for the impacting vehicle.

A development of the invention provides that the elastomeric web rests with a substantially closed bearing surface on the wall construction. This ensures that the respective elastomeric track can be securely attached to the wall construction. This also allows better frictional effects to be achieved, for example if, as a consequence of the high impact forces, the stiffening structure is destroyed and only the contact surface remains.

For attaching the respective elastomeric track, it is possible to glue these to the wall construction. It is preferably provided that the elastomeric track is fixed with fastening bolts on the wall construction. The number and location of attachment of the bolt is selectable depending on the application.

As is known, corresponding wall constructions are arranged both to block off two traffic routes to one another in the middle of the roadway. Alternatively, these can also be mounted laterally on a roadway. In the former case, ie for separating two opposing traffic routes wall constructions are usually used, which are effective on both sides, with one side facing the one traffic route and the other side facing the opposite traffic route. In this case, a development of the present invention provides that the elastomeric web is attached to at least one mounting bracket to the wall construction. So can be attached on both sides of the wall construction corresponding elastomeric tracks on the mounting bracket. But it is also possible to use mounting bracket for only one-sided attachment of appropriate elastomeric webs. However, corresponding mounting bracket can also be used only temporarily for fixing the elastomeric sheets, for example as an assembly aid, in which the elastomeric sheets can be hung in a desired position, then the mounting screws can be drilled and then the mounting bracket can be removed again.

To simplify the assembly and attaching a plurality of fastening bolts, it is possible according to a development of the invention that the elastomeric web has a plurality of mounting holes. Preferably, in each case a mounting hole is already introduced in the stiffening structure during their production. Thus, in the case of a honeycomb structure, for example, a mounting bore can be centrally provided in each honeycomb.

In order to avoid that water collects in the stiffening structure or otherwise on the elastomeric track, according to the invention it can further be provided that the elastomeric web has water drainage holes. This increases the weather resistance of the vehicle restraint system according to the invention.

Usually, it is provided in connection with the invention that the wall construction has a plurality of shot-wise composite solid wall elements. It is provided in particular that the wall construction is made of concrete. It is understood that the present invention can also be applied to an in-situ concrete protection wall, which was produced by means of sliding shell paver seamlessly in the endless belt on the construction site.

The invention further relates to an elastomeric web for a vehicle restraint system of the type described above.

In FIG. 1 an inventive vehicle restraint system is shown and generally designated 10. It can be seen that this has a wall construction 12 of a plurality of cast-like wall elements 14, 16 made of concrete. These are executed in the so-called step profile, that is, they run upwards conically and have in their lying near the ground lower portion a thickening 18. It can be seen that on the individual wall elements 14 and 16 on both sides of elastomer mats 20, 22, 24th are attached. These elastomeric mats are attached to the wall structure 12 with corresponding bolts 26 and washers 28.

It is understood that the present invention can also be used in an in-situ concrete protection wall, which was manufactured by means of sliding shell pavers in the endless belt on the construction site.

The elastomer mats 20, 22, 24 have a continuous rear wall 30, but have on their front side facing the roadway, a honeycomb structure with regular polygonal (hexagonal here) honeycomb. These have a depth b of several centimeters. In the individual honeycomb bores 31 are mounted to allow any attachment of mounting bolts, as explained below. These holes 31 also serve to prevent water from being collected therein. In addition or as an alternative to the bores 31, however, it is also possible for further openings or bores to be provided in the honeycomb for draining the water, which are produced, for example, in the production of the honeycomb structure.

The thickness d of the elastomeric mats 20, 22, 24 is chosen so that they protrude further from the wall profile than the jump between the lower reinforced portion 18 and the overlying narrower portion 19. This thickness dimensioning is particularly in the FIGS. 4 and 5 to recognize by the dimension s.

In front view according to FIG. 2 and the plan view according to FIG. 3 of the mounted vehicle restraint system it can be seen that the elastomer mats 20, 22, 24 are joined together seamlessly according to the shooting distance of the individual wall elements 14, 16 (or at regular intervals on a seamless Ortbetonwand). In FIG. 3 recognizes that on both sides of the strand 12 of wall elements 14, 16, etc. appropriate elastomeric mats 22, 24 are attached etc.

FIG. 4 shows a cross section through the vehicle restraint system 10 according to the invention. In particular, this cross-section can be seen that the elastomer mats 22, 24 are mounted on the wall element 16 via corresponding fastening bolts 26. It can also be seen that the thickened lower portion 18 and the return to the upper portion 19. Furthermore, it can be seen that the elastomeric mats are dimensioned larger by the amount s than this return. Finally, it can also be seen that the mat-shaped elastomeric sheets have a continuous rear wall 30 with corresponding fastening openings 31.

FIG. 5 shows a modification of the embodiment according to FIG. 4 unlike the embodiment according to FIG FIG. 4 be in the embodiment according to FIG. 5 the elastomeric sheets are simply hung on a mounting bracket 40 with corresponding mounting pins 42 on a corresponding wall element 16. Optionally, these may additionally with corresponding mounting bolts 26 (in FIG. 5 not shown). Otherwise, the elastomer mats 20, 22, 24 are also honeycomb-shaped, as in FIG. 4 shown and related to FIGS. 1 to 3 described. In the FIG. 5 shown modification may also represent only a temporary state during assembly. Thus, then the mounting bracket 40 is only temporarily used as an assembly aid for the elastomer mats 20, 20, 24 and after attachment of the elastomer mats to the concrete wall by means of suitable fastening bolts 26 in the in FIG. 4 subsequently removed again. Both variants - mounting bracket 40 as a permanent attachment or mounting bracket 40 as an assembly aid - are beneficial.

The invention has the advantage that existing concrete protection walls can be retrofitted with corresponding elastomer mats 20, 22, 24. In an impact situation in which a vehicle impacts on such a concrete protective wall, these rubber sheets ensure that the vehicle is braked. The elastomeric sheets in particular have a frictional effect and prevent an excessive increase of the vehicle at the oblique contour of the concrete profile. The honeycomb structure has a dampening effect. The vehicle rubs along the Elastomerbahn, as it were, whereby impact energy is dissipated. This friction also has the effect that the vehicle is decelerated on one side and thus repeatedly directed towards the concrete profile.

Overall, a significantly improved deflection of the impacting vehicle results than in a concrete profile without corresponding elastomeric tracks.
