Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a lubricating composition, in particular to lubricating compositions for use in internal combustion engines operated under sustained high load conditions, such as marine diesel engines and power applications. More particularly, the present invention relates to a marine cylinder oil.
  • WO 2008/043901 A2 discloses a cylinder lubricant for a two-stroke marine engine, having a Base Number (according to ASTM D 2986) of at least 40 mg KOH/g, and containing form 0.01 to 1.0 wt.% of a primary, secondary or tertiary mono-alcohol having at least 12 carbon atoms.
  • the present invention provides the use of a lubricating composition according to the present invention, in order to improve one or more of corrosive wear protection properties (according to the below described procedure based on ASTM G181) and BN retention properties (as measured according to ASTM D 2896). Further, the present invention provides the use of a lubricating composition according to the present invention, in order to improve BN retention properties, whilst maintaining corrosive wear protection properties.
  • Base oil 1 was a commercially available Group I base oil blend having a kinematic viscosity at 100°C (ASTM D445) of approx. 16 cSt (mm 2 s -1 ). This base oil blend is commercially available from e.g. Shell Chemicals Ltd. (London, UK) under the trade designation "Catenex”.

Claims (13)

  1. Composition lubrifiante comprenant :
    - une huile de base ;
    - un détergent ; et
    - un composé aminé ayant la formule générale (I) suivante :

            R1NHR2     (I)

    dans laquelle R1 représente un groupe hydrocarbyle contenant 1 à 50 atomes de carbone et R2 est choisi dans le groupe constitué de H et un groupe hydrocarbyle contenant 1 à 50 atomes de carbone ;
    dans laquelle le composé aminé est présent à un taux supérieur à 0,3 % en poids, en poids de la composition lubrifiante,
    dans laquelle le détergent est choisi parmi des détergents métalliques neutres et surbasifiés ayant une valeur d'indice basique total selon ASTM D 2896 de 20 à 450, la composition comprenant au moins 8 % en poids du détergent, sur la base du poids total de la composition, et la composition ayant une valeur d'indice basique total (TBN) selon ASTM D 2896 supérieure à 20,0 mg KOH/g.
  2. Composition lubrifiante selon la revendication 1 dans laquelle le composé aminé est présent à un taux inférieur à 2,5 % en poids, en poids de la composition lubrifiante.
  3. Composition lubrifiante selon la revendication 1 ou 2 dans laquelle le composé aminé est présent à un taux dans la plage de 0,4 % en poids à 2,4 % en poids, en poids de la composition lubrifiante.
  4. Composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3 dans laquelle le composé aminé est présent à un taux dans la plage de 0,5 % en poids à 2,0 % en poids, en poids de la composition lubrifiante.
  5. Composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 4, dans laquelle R2 représente H.
  6. Composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 5, dans laquelle R1 représente un groupe hydrocarbyle contenant 8 à 30 atomes de carbone.
  7. Composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 6, la composition comprenant au moins 10 % en poids du détergent, sur la base du poids total de la composition.
  8. Composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 7, dans laquelle le détergent est choisi parmi un détergent de type sulfonate, un détergent de type phénate, ou un mélange de ceux-ci.
  9. Composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 8, la composition ayant une valeur d'indice basique total (TBN) d'au plus 75 mg KOH/g selon ASTM D 2896.
  10. Composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 9, la composition ayant une valeur d'indice basique total (TBN) d'au plus 65 mg KOH/g selon ASTM D 2896.
  11. Composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 10, la composition ayant une viscosité cinématique à 100 °C supérieure à 5,6 mm2/s et inférieure à 21,9 mm2/s.
  12. Composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 11, la composition ne contenant aucun additif autre qu'un ou plusieurs détergents, un ou plusieurs dispersants et un ou plusieurs composé(s) aminé(s) ayant la formule générale (I).
  13. Utilisation d'une composition lubrifiante selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 12, dans le but d'améliorer l'une ou plusieurs des propriétés de protection contre l'usure corrosive selon ASTM G181, les propriétés de rétention de BN et d'usage de BN telles que mesurées selon ASTM D 2896.
