Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a lubricating composition, in particular to lubricating compositions for use in internal combustion engines operated under sustained high load conditions, such as marine diesel engines and power applications. More particularly, the present invention relates to a marine cylinder oil.
  • WO 2008/043901 A2 discloses a cylinder lubricant for a two-stroke marine engine, having a Base Number (according to ASTM D 2986) of at least 40 mg KOH/g, and containing form 0.01 to 1.0 wt.% of a primary, secondary or tertiary mono-alcohol having at least 12 carbon atoms.
  • the present invention provides the use of a lubricating composition according to the present invention, in order to improve one or more of corrosive wear protection properties (according to the below described procedure based on ASTM G181) and BN retention properties (as measured according to ASTM D 2896). Further, the present invention provides the use of a lubricating composition according to the present invention, in order to improve BN retention properties, whilst maintaining corrosive wear protection properties.
  • Base oil 1 was a commercially available Group I base oil blend having a kinematic viscosity at 100°C (ASTM D445) of approx. 16 cSt (mm 2 s -1 ). This base oil blend is commercially available from e.g. Shell Chemicals Ltd. (London, UK) under the trade designation "Catenex”.

Claims (13)

  1. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung, umfassend:
    - ein Grundöl;
    - ein Detergens und
    - eine Aminverbindung mit der folgenden allgemeinen Formel (I):

            R1NHR2     (I)

    worin R1 für eine Kohlenwasserstoffgruppe mit 1 bis 50 Kohlenstoffatomen steht und R2 aus der Gruppe bestehend aus H und einer Kohlenwasserstoffgruppe mit 1 bis 50 Kohlenstoffatomen ausgewählt ist; wobei die Aminverbindung in einem Gehalt von mehr als 0,3 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Schmiermittelzusammensetzung, vorliegt,
    wobei das Detergens aus neutralen und überalkalisierten Metalldetergentien mit einer Gesamtbasenzahl (Total Base Number) gemäß ASTM D 2896 von 20 bis 450 ausgewählt ist, wobei die Zusammensetzung mindestens 8 Gew.-% des Detergens, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der Zusammensetzung, umfasst und wobei die Zusammensetzung eine Gesamtbasenzahl (Total Base Number, TBN) gemäß ASTM D 2896 von mehr als 20 mg KOH/g aufweist.
  2. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Aminverbindung in einem Gehalt von weniger als 2,5 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Schmiermittelzusammensetzung, vorliegt.
  3. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, wobei die Aminverbindung in einem Gehalt im Bereich von 0,4 Gew.-% bis 2,4 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Schmiermittelzusammensetzung, vorliegt.
  4. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, wobei die Aminverbindung in einem Gehalt im Bereich von 0,5 Gew.-% bis 2,0 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Schmiermittelzusammensetzung, vorliegt.
  5. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, wobei R2 für H steht.
  6. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, wobei R1 für eine Kohlenwasserstoffgruppe mit 8 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatomen steht.
  7. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, wobei die Zusammensetzung mindestens 10 Gew.-% des Detergens, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der Zusammensetzung, umfasst.
  8. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, wobei das Detergens aus einem Detergens vom Sulfonat-Typ, einem Detergens vom Phenat-Typ oder einer Mischung davon ausgewählt ist.
  9. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8, wobei die Zusammensetzung eine Gesamtbasenzahl (Total Base Number, TBN) von höchstens 75 mg KOH/g gemäß ASTM D 2896 aufweist.
  10. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 9, wobei die Zusammensetzung eine Gesamtbasenzahl (Total Base Number, TBN) von höchstens 65 mg KOH/g gemäß ASTM D 2896 aufweist.
  11. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 10, wobei die Zusammensetzung eine kinematische Viskosität bei 100°C von mehr als 5,6 mm2/s und weniger als 21,9 mm2/s aufweist.
  12. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 11, wobei die Zusammensetzung keine anderen Additive als ein oder mehrere Detergentien, ein oder mehrere Dispergiermittel und eine oder mehrere Aminverbindungen mit der allgemeinen Formel (I) enthält.
  13. Verwendung einer Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 12 zur Verbesserung einer oder mehrerer der Korrosionsverschleißschutzeigenschaften gemäß ASTM G181 und der gemäß ASTM D 2896 gemessenen BN-Retentions- und BN-Nutzungseigenschaften.
