Description

The invention relates to the field of the decoration of transport vehicles, in particular, railway transport vehicles.

This makes it possible to personalize the vehicles and to make them more pleasant to look at, more attractive. The decoration of railway vehicles also fulfills a function of protecting the external surface of vehicles against external aggressions (rain, hail, graffiti, etc.).

With reference to the figure 1 which is a sectional view, before the putting into service of a railway vehicle, the latter is traditionally decorated with paint, according to a conventional method, in which one applies successively on the outer surface 1 of the vehicle:
  • an underlayer 11 of small thickness (approximately 50 micrometers), traditionally of white color,
  • a colored base layer 12 of thickness (less than 25 μm), the color of which is free, and
  • a layer of varnish 13 thick (about 50 microns), to protect the base layer 12 against external aggression, the varnish is generally transparent.

This paint application method effectively allows to decorate large areas uniformly or almost uniformly (color gradient) with a thin coating (150-200 μm). Such a method unfortunately does not allow to decorate the vehicle with patterns having various shapes and colors. In particular, it is not possible to decorate the vehicle with digital drawings or photographs.

To solve this problem, there are known adhesives comprising a pattern that is just deposited on the outer surface of the vehicle, the pattern of the adhesive being free choice. Any type of drawing or photograph can be reproduced on an adhesive by digital printing or screen printing.

These adhesives 20 ( Figure 2 ) are commonly sold commercially and successively comprise several layers. With reference to the figure 2 , the adhesive comprises from its lower layer to its upper layer:
  • a lower protective film 21,
  • a lower adhesive layer 22,
  • a mechanical support 23,
  • an ink layer 24 comprising at least one pattern,
  • an upper glue layer 25,
  • an outer definitive protective film 26, consisting of a varnish, PVC or polyester, and
  • an upper protective film 27.

To fix the adhesive 20 on the outer surface 1 of the vehicle, with reference to the figure 3 the lower protective films 21 and upper 27 are removed and the lower adhesive layer 22 is brought into contact with the outer surface of the vehicle 1, the surface of the vehicle 1 having been previously covered with a layer of paint 11, called by the following layer. The adhesive can also be applied to a layer of paint protected or not by a layer of varnish previously applied to the vehicle.

The adhesive 20, applied on the outer surface 1 of the vehicle, is therefore raised relative to the underlayer of paint 11. Because of this relief, the thickness of the adhesive, of the order of 200 micrometers , forms a catch with the wind during the displacement of the vehicle which damages the adhesive prematurely, its lifespan not exceeding 7 years whereas that of a painting exceeds 12 years.

In addition, the adhesive 20 tends to "peel off" due to the degradation of the upper adhesive layer 25 and the upper film 26; this is called delamination of the layers of the adhesive. The delamination is accentuated by the speed of circulation of the rail vehicle which exceeds 300km / h. A delaminated adhesive promotes vehicle corrosion, with rainwater coming into contact with the exterior surface of the vehicle.

The damaged adhesive 20 has an unsightly appearance and it is necessary to replace it. To perform this operation, the vehicle must be immobilized, which has a disadvantage.

In addition to their short life span, the current adhesives are difficult to remove and it is necessary to resort to chemicals that must be handled with care which increases the time of immobilization of the vehicle and the drawbacks that result in terms of profitability and cost.

  • un adhésif décoratif constitué successivement d'une couche de colle inférieure, d'une couche de support mécanique de l'adhésif et d'une couche illustrée comportant au moins un motif imprimé, l'adhésif étant appliqué sur la surface extérieure du véhicule;
The document US 2007/036929 A1 discloses a decorative coating for application to an outer surface of a transport vehicle and comprising:
  • a decorative adhesive consisting successively of a lower adhesive layer, a mechanical support layer of the adhesive and an illustrated layer having at least one printed pattern, the adhesive being applied to the outer surface of the vehicle;
  • a protective layer applied to the outer surface of the adhesive and the layer of colored paint applied to the outer surface of the vehicle.

  • un adhésif décoratif constitué successivement d'une couche de colle inférieure, une couche de support mécanique de l'adhésif et une couche illustrée comportant au moins un motif imprimé, l'adhésif étant appliqué sur la surface extérieure du véhicule;
In order to eliminate these disadvantages, the invention relates to an outer surface of a transport vehicle with a decorative coating, the latter comprising:
  • a decorative adhesive successively consisting of a lower adhesive layer, a mechanical support layer of the adhesive and an illustrated layer comprising at least one printed pattern, the adhesive being applied to the outer surface of the vehicle;
  • a layer of colored paint applied to the outer surface of the vehicle outside the surface covered by the adhesive, the outer surfaces of the paint layer and the adhesive being continuous and
  • a protective layer applied to the continuous outer surfaces of the paint layer and the adhesive.

Thanks to the invention, there is an aesthetic coating having a long life, the adhesive being protected laterally by the paint layer and, outside, by the protective layer. We speak of coating with integrated adhesive.

Preferably, the paint layer has the same thickness as the adhesive.

Preferably, the adhesive has a thickness of between 20 and 40 microns which allows to integrate it into a paint layer without creating extra thickness in the coating or relief. This is advantageously obtained by decreasing the thickness of the mechanical support layer of the adhesive, all the elements of the coating participating in the support of the illustrated layer, in particular, the paint layer and the protective layer.

Preferably, the coating has a thickness of between 50 and 80 micrometers, preferably 70 micrometers. This advantageously allows to decorate the vehicle satisfactorily without increasing the mass of the vehicle with a thick and therefore heavy coating.

Advantageously, a sub-layer of paint is applied between the outer surface of the vehicle, on the one hand, and the decorative adhesive and the paint layer, on the other hand.

Preferably, the mechanical support layer of the adhesive comprises a paint film in the dry state. Such a support is simple to implement and makes it possible to reinforce the compatibility with the layer of varnish and the layer of paint applied to the external surface of the vehicle outside the surface covered by the adhesive. Still preferably, the mechanical support layer of the adhesive consists of a paint film in the dry state.

More preferably, the dry paint film is formed from a paint having the same properties as the paint of the colored paint layer. By using paints of the same nature, the compatibility of the support layer with the lacquer layer and the paint layer is reinforced, improving the resistance of the coating to wear and aging.

  • on applique un adhésif décoratif sur la surface extérieure du véhicule, l'adhésif étant constitué successivement d'une couche de colle inférieure, une couche de support mécanique de l'adhésif et une couche illustrée comportant au moins un motif imprimé ;
The invention also relates to a method of decorating an outer surface of a transport vehicle in which:
  • a decorative adhesive is applied to the outer surface of the vehicle, the adhesive being successively constituted by a lower adhesive layer, a mechanical support layer of the adhesive and an illustrated layer comprising at least one printed pattern;
  • a layer of colored paint is applied to said outer surface of the vehicle outside the surface covered by the adhesive, the outer surfaces of the paint layer and the adhesive being continuous and
  • a protective layer is applied to the continuous outer surfaces of the paint layer and the adhesive.

We obtain a decorative coating of great quality and long life. In addition, its method of obtaining only requires a limited number of steps that are simple to implement.

Preferably, a layer of paint is applied to the outer surface of the vehicle prior to the application of the decorative adhesive, reserves being formed in the paint layer to receive the decorative adhesive. This advantageously allows to deposit the adhesive in the reserves in the paint layer which facilitates the positioning of the adhesive.

More preferably, an undercoat of paint is applied to the exterior surface of the vehicle prior to the application of the paint layer and the adhesive.

  • on applique un nouvel adhésif décoratif sur la surface extérieure de l'ancien revêtement, l'adhésif étant constitué successivement d'une couche de colle inférieure, une couche de support mécanique de l'adhésif et une couche illustrée comportant au moins un nouveau motif imprimé ;
Preferably always, to replace an old coating with a new coating:
  • partially or completely eliminates the protective layer of the old coating, the thickness of the old coating being constant after elimination,
  • a new decorative adhesive is applied to the outer surface of the old coating, the adhesive successively consisting of a lower adhesive layer, a mechanical support layer of the adhesive and an illustrated layer comprising at least one new printed pattern. ;
  • a new layer of colored paint is applied to said outer surface of the old coating outside the surface covered by the new adhesive, the outer surfaces of the new paint layer and the new adhesive being continuous and
  • a new protective layer is applied to the continuous outer surfaces of the new paint coat and new adhesive.

This partial removal of the old coating avoids the use of toxic products. The protective layer is advantageously removed by sanding. The new coating is applied in good conditions due to the continuity of the surfaces of the old adhesive and the old paint layer.

L'adhésif est protégé par un film de protection inférieur 31 et un film de protection supérieur 35.With reference to the figure 4 the coating comprises an adhesive 30 consisting of a lower adhesive layer 32, a mechanical support layer 33 of the adhesive and an illustrated layer 34 having at least one printed pattern. The adhesive is protected by a lower protective film 31 and an upper protective film 35.

This adhesive has the particularity of having a very low thickness in use, that is, when the protective films 31, 35 are removed from the adhesive 30. The thickness of the adhesive varies between 20 and 40 micrometers. This is achieved by modifying the thickness of the layers of the adhesives of the prior art so as to obtain the lowest possible mechanical strength of the adhesive while allowing its handling.

Adhesives of the prior art are traditionally used as such. For this purpose, they must have sufficient mechanical strength to be moved, folded, rolled, etc., while resisting external aggression. Only thick adhesives are commercially available, the sum of the thicknesses of the lower adhesive layer, the support layer and the illustrated layer of a conventional adhesive being between 70 and 150 micrometers which is too thick to be integrated in a coating.

The adhesives used for the invention do not have a function of mechanical strength but only a support function of the printed pattern. Thus, the adhesive is presented in the form of a very thin film, with a thickness of between 20 and 40 microns, which can not be used as such.

The removable protective films 31, 35 of the adhesive 30 are made of paper coated with an adhesive and have a thickness of between 30 and 50 micrometers. The composition of these films 31, 35 is known to those skilled in the art, their thickness being greater than the protective films of the adhesives of the prior art so as to give the adhesive, when it is protected, a better hold mechanical during transport and handling.

The adhesive layer 32 comprises acrylic and has a thickness of between 10 and 20 microns. The composition of the glue 32 is known to those skilled in the art. The thickness of adhesive is lower than that of the adhesives of the prior art since the adhesive layer 32 does not fulfill a definitive or durable fastening function as in the adhesives of the prior art. The very thin layer of glue 32 allows a simple positioning of the adhesive, the final fixing of the adhesive being completed by other means which will be detailed later.

The layer 33 of mechanical support of the adhesive 30 is made of PVC and has a thickness of between 10 and 20 microns. This support layer has a much lower thickness than the adhesives of the prior art, its role being solely to support the printed pattern of the adhesive.

Alternatively, the mechanical support layer 33 of the adhesive 30 comprises a dry paint film, i.e., a solid film, which has a thickness of between 10 and 20 microns. This support layer has a much lower thickness than that of the adhesives of the prior art, its role being, on the one hand, to support the printed pattern of the adhesive and, on the other hand, to ensure optimum compatibility between a protective layer 43 and a colored paint layer 42 of the coating which will be presented later.

A dry paint film, such as that manufactured by the company CORSO MAGENTA and known under the trade name "Paint Poser ®", is traditionally packaged in the form of rolls. To form the paint film, a paint is applied to a temporary support and then dried. Preferably, the paint used is of the same nature as that of the colored paint layer 42 which will be presented later. In other words, the paints of the support layer 33 and of the paint layer 42 have similar properties and are compatible with each other which allows them to come into contact. The dried paint film is preferably printed to include a decorative pattern, for example, by digital image printing, on a surface that can be flat or raised.

The dried film is then bonded to temporary shields to form an adhesive. The adhesive with its paint film in the dry state is then rolled to form a roll which improves its packaging and facilitates its transport.

To use it, simply remove the temporary protection to apply the adhesive on the surface to be covered. An adhesive with a support layer comprising a film of paint in the dry state has the advantage of not sinking which limits the risk of soiling. In addition, the dry paint film advantageously has no volatile organic compound (VOC) which is advantageous for the environment. Finally, a support layer 33 based on paint makes it possible to reinforce the compatibility with the layer of varnish 43 and the layer of paint 42 applied to the outer surface of the vehicle outside the surface covered by the adhesive.

The illustrated layer 34 of the adhesive 30 is made in serigraphy or printing ink and has a thickness of between 5 and 15 micrometers. This layer 34 is made by a digital image printing process (inkjet, laser, electrography, etc.) which allows great freedom in the design of the printed pattern, both in terms of colors, shapes , patterns that textures. It goes without saying that other printing processes could also be suitable, for example, screen printing, offset printing, etc.

A titre d'exemple, la couche illustrée 34 comprend un motif d'une fleur de différentes couleurs, le motif étant représenté uniquement en noir sur la figure 7B.By way of example, the illustrated layer 34 comprises a pattern of a flower of different colors, the pattern being represented only in black on the Figure 7B .

The adhesive 30 may advantageously comprise recesses so that the surface on which the adhesive is applied is visible, here the undercoat of paint.

The decorative adhesive 30 is integrated in the coating for the outer surface of a transport vehicle as shown in FIG. figure 8 .

Before any decoration of the vehicle, its outer surface may be covered with an anti-corrosion layer so as to protect it. It goes without saying that other treatments can be applied to the outer surface of the vehicle.

Dans le revêtement 40, l'adhésif 30 est « nu » et ne comprend pas de films de protection 31, 35.With reference to the figure 8 , the coating 40 comprises a sub-layer of paint 41, or aprêt, applied on the outer surface of the vehicle, the decorative adhesive 30 being applied to the undercoat of paint 41. When the adhesive 30 comprises recesses, the undercoat of paint 41 is visible through said recesses. In the coating 40, the adhesive 30 is "bare" and does not include protective films 31, 35.

The coating 40 also includes a layer of colored paint 42 applied to said underlayer 41 outside the surface covered by the adhesive 30, the outer surfaces of the paint layer 42 and the adhesive 30 being continuous. Thus, there is no relief on the surface of the coating 40, the adhesive 30 being integrated into the paint layer 42 which makes it possible to prevent its lateral displacement in the coating 40. In this case, the colored paint 42 and the adhesive 30 have the same thickness, between 20 and 40 micrometers.

Le revêtement 40 permet d'intégrer l'adhésif 30 dans la couche de peinture 42 en raison de la faible épaisseur de l'adhésif 30.The coating 40 further comprises a protective layer, here a layer of varnish 43 applied to the continuous outer surfaces of the paint layer 42 and the adhesive 30. The varnish 43 has a thickness of between 40 and 60 microns, its main function is to protect the paint layer 42 and the adhesive 30 against external attacks such as rain, hail or, in another area, graffiti. The coating 40 makes it possible to integrate the adhesive 30 in the paint layer 42 because of the small thickness of the adhesive 30.

Although the adhesive 30 has an adhesive layer 32 and a thin support layer 33, this is not detrimental to the coating 40 since the adhesive 30 is held laterally by the paint layer 42 and protected vertically by the varnish layer 43. The vertical and horizontal displacements of the adhesive 30 are thus prevented. The mechanical strength of the adhesive 30 is never stressed because the latter is protected both horizontally and vertically.

The coating 40 has a small thickness of between 25 and 60 micrometers which corresponds to the thickness of a conventional coating based paint. The coating thus has a low mass which is advantageous.

On obtient un revêtement décoratif 40 ayant :

  • une durée de vie importante, comparable à celle des revêtements constitués de peinture, l'adhésif 30 étant totalement protégé ;
We obtain a decorative coating 40 having:
  • a long life, comparable to that of coatings consisting of paint, the adhesive 30 being completely protected;
  • an aesthetic aspect, the motifs being of free creation, the transport vehicle can be decorated with logos or digital photos and
  • a quality finish, the surface of the coating being perfectly smooth, devoid of discontinuity, which is pleasant to the sight as to the touch.

Preferably, the painting of the paint film in the dry state is of the same nature as the painting of the paint layer 42 applied outside the surface covered by the adhesive 30, for example, an epoxy or polyurethane paint. Preferably, the same type of paint pigments is used which makes it possible to make the support layer 33 completely compatible with, on the one hand, the varnish layer 43 and, on the other hand, the paint layer 42. In effect, the paint of the paint layer 42 is chosen to be compatible with the varnish 43. To ensure the compatibility of the adhesive 30, the adhesive support layer used is a paint film formed from an adhesive. paint having the same properties as that of the paint layer 42. Due to increased compatibility, the coating thus formed has a better resistance to wear and aging.

  • on applique une sous-couche de peinture 41 sur la surface extérieure 1 du véhicule, cette étape étant réalisée au moyen d'un pistolet à peinture ;
  • on retire le film de protection inférieur 31 de l'adhésif 30 et on applique la surface collante 32 de l'adhésif 30 sur la sous-couche 41 comme représenté sur les figures 5A et 5B, l'adhésif 30 étant toujours recouvert de son film de protection supérieur 35 ;
  • on applique une couche de peinture colorée 42 sur ladite sous-couche 41 en dehors de la surface recouverte par l'adhésif 30, le film de protection supérieur de l'adhésif 35 protégeant le motif décoratif 34 à l'encontre de bavures potentielles lors de l'application de la couche de peinture 42 ;
The invention also relates to a method of decorating a transport vehicle in which:
  • an undercoat of paint 41 is applied to the outer surface 1 of the vehicle, this step being carried out by means of a spray gun;
  • the lower protective film 31 is removed from the adhesive 30 and the adhesive surface 32 of the adhesive 30 is applied to the underlayer 41 as shown in FIGS. Figures 5A and 5B the adhesive 30 always being covered with its upper protective film 35;
  • a layer of colored paint 42 is applied to said underlayer 41 outside the surface covered by the adhesive 30, the upper protective film of the adhesive 35 protecting the decorative pattern 34 against potential burrs during the application of the paint layer 42;
  • the paint is applied so that the outer surfaces of the paint layer 42 and the adhesive 30 are continuous,
  • the upper protective film is removed from the adhesive 35 so as to reveal the pattern of the adhesive 30 and
  • a protective layer is applied, here a lacquer layer 43 on the continuous outer surfaces of the paint layer 42 and the adhesive 30.

It goes without saying that the adhesive 30 and the paint layer 42 could be directly applied to the outer surface of the vehicle without prior application of a paint undercoat 41.

It has been described here a method in which the application of the adhesive 30 is prior to the application of the paint, the paint layer 42 being applied around the adhesive 30. It goes without saying that the application of the paint 42 could be prior to the application of the adhesive 30, reserves being then formed in the paint layer 42 to receive said adhesive 30. The reserves advantageously allow to facilitate the introduction of the adhesive, the latter being applied with precision because of the guiding made by the walls of the reserves.

Indeed, when it is desired to modify the decoration pattern, if the latter is worn or old-fashioned, it is sufficient to "sand" the varnish layer 43 by a known sanding or pickling method in order to obtain a reduced coating thickness. , less than that of a coating with its layer of varnish, and whose outer surface is smooth. Preferably, between 50% and 100% of the varnish thickness is removed. It is said that the varnish is frosted.

On the sanded external surface of the old coating, a new adhesive and a new paint layer according to the invention are applied and a new layer of varnish is applied to the continuous outer surfaces of the new paint layer and the new one. adhesive. Preferably, an undercoat of paint can be applied again to the polished outer surface of the old coating.

This provides a new quality coating, without requiring a long cleaning process, difficult to implement and requiring the use of toxic products.

It goes without saying that the method of renewal of the decoration could also be implemented without prior stripping, directly on the varnish layer of the old coating.
