Definitions
- the present invention relates to a resin-bonded grinding wheel using seed pods as a pore-forming agent, and to a method for producing such grinding wheels.
- a grinding wheel consists essentially of abrasive grain, binder material and pore space.
- the pore space is composed of the natural interstices that arise between the abrasive grains and the pores introduced into the grinding wheel by pore formers.
- the pores are also influenced in size and number by the pressing pressure. This results in a low pore space at high pressure, while a low pressure results in a correspondingly larger pore space.
- a low compression pressure also requires a softer disc.
- other fillers in grinding wheels can also be used. These may be abrasive (e.g., cooling), thus assisting the grinding process or serving to stabilize (burst resistance, flexibility) the grinding wheel.
- the fineness of the forming during the grinding process chip or the roughness of the material surface depends essentially on the size of the abrasive grain.
- Abrasive grains usually consist of hard, brittle materials and are routinely used in a wide range of sizes.
- the binder material may be a synthetic resin as in the present application. It serves to hold the individual abrasive grains together. The pore space makes it possible, among other things, to remove the material chip safely, but it can also be used to hold coolant.
- the properties of the grinding wheel can be adjusted, so that one can achieve the desired grinding results for each material to be processed.
- a ceramic bonded grinding wheel which can be produced in a single firing process and thereby manages without the use of a binder.
- Walnut shells, plastic beads or foamed organic material are used as pore formers.
- the starting material used is a sol gel based on boehmite seed crystals, which is mixed with walnut shells of an average size of 275 ⁇ m. Subsequently, this mixture is poured into the desired shape, dried and finally fired at a maximum temperature of 1300 ° C.
- the boehmite crystallizes to ⁇ -alumina.
- the walnut shells burn without residue at these high temperatures and therefore leave pores in the grinding wheel.
- the final product has a porosity of about 40% and is sufficiently stable to be used as a grinding wheel.
- a grinding wheel consisting of a combination of pore formers, namely hollow alumina spheres and organic pore former, and a sol gel of alumina abrasive grains.
- the organic pore former may be made from nutshells, carbon, flower seeds, starch, sugar or wood particles.
- the organic pore-forming agent completely decomposes on firing of the grinding wheel, leaving open pores in the grinding wheel.
- the resulting achieved porosity of the grinding wheel is about 1 to 12% of its volume.
- the temperature-resistant, hollow, thin-walled aluminum oxide beads give the grinding wheel, as closed pores, additional porosity of up to 70% and at the same time ensure sufficient stability.
- the problem here is, however, that these closed pores can absorb coolant, but are usually not able to remove sanding chip.
- the DE 602 06 661 T2 describes an impregnated vitreous bonded grinding wheel which is impregnated with a sulfur-containing organic substance as a grinding aid.
- This impregnating agent is a hydrocarbon compound having at least one carbon-sulfur bond.
- Organic substances, such as nutshells, resins or wood flour, may be used as pore formers, but they should burn without residue at the specified firing temperature of 538 to 1371 ° C. (1000 to 2500 ° F.) during the firing process.
- Pore formers are a variety of substances, such as wood, hemp, flax, paper and grains called various types. However, these pore formers burn in the process described during the firing process.
- the stoneware produced by this process is suitable, inter alia, for use as artificial millstones in grain mills.
- the DE 10 2004 035 088 A1 describes an organically bonded cutting disc with a functional additive.
- the abrasive article comprises a binder (phenolic resins, epoxy resins, imides), abrasive grain and at least one functional filler.
- the functional filler here is a metal alloy, which can be selected depending on the material to be processed. In the production, a firing temperature in the range of 150 ° C to 250 ° C is applied, and the curing takes a total of 12 to 76 hours.
- the DE 697 05 538 T2 describes abrasive articles and methods for their manufacture.
- the binders used include phenolic resins and epoxy resins.
- the abrasive grain used has diameters of about 1 ⁇ m to about 10 mm. The curing of these grinding wheels takes place over a period of 8 to 15 hours at temperatures of 66 to 120 ° C.
- the DE 102 97 124 T5 describes a method of making a vitrified superabrasive tool that selects a fritted glass bonding composition
- Superabrasive ingredient, a filler component with hollow bodies and the glass bonding composition are combined, and the combined components are fired at about 600 to 850 ° C.
- Object of the present invention is to provide resin-bonded grinding wheels, which have long service life, do not clog and have a cool cut.
- this object is achieved in that the plant seeds are included in the finished grinding wheel.
- the grinding wheel consists of a mixture of abrasive grain, binder and pore-forming agent, wherein the pore-forming agents are plant seeds, and the plant seeds are not burned during production, but are included in the finished grinding wheel.
- the plant seeds are used in the production of the grinding wheel as organic pore formers.
- the plant seeds are not - as in the production of ceramic bonded grinding wheels usual - burned during manufacture, but remain intact and form an important part of the finished grinding wheel.
- the plant seeds have several functions. They have as part of the grinding wheel a certain support effect, which prevents the early breaking out of the abrasive grain. In addition to this support function, however, the plant seeds can also fulfill the task of conventional pores and provide, for example, for the removal of the grinding chips. Since the plant seeds are relatively soft, they can be deformed by the usually harder grinding chips, and then transport them away in the newly formed pore space. It is also possible that the hot grinding chips, which have temperatures of between 1500 ° C and 2000 ° C, the plant seeds Burn grinding process. The resulting pore space is then comparable to that of a conventional pore and can accordingly serve for the removal of the sanding chip. In addition, when grinding non-ferrous metals by the addition of pore formers in the form of plant seeds, the clogging of the disc can be prevented.
- An advantage of the present invention is that there are natural plant seeds in various shapes and sizes, so that the porosity of the grinding tool can be adapted almost arbitrarily. This is particularly important because the size of the resulting chip may vary depending on the size of the abrasive grain and the nature of the workpiece.
- the resin-bonded abrasive wheel of the present invention consists of 60 to 90% by weight of abrasive grain and 10 to 40% by weight of binder.
- the plant seeds can make up to 80% by weight of the binder.
- various other known fillers can be used.
- abrasive materials commonly used as abrasive grains are suitable as abrasive grains. These include corundum, silicon carbides, chromium oxides, cubic boron nitride, diamonds, silicon oxides, zirconium oxides, garnet and emery, and mixtures thereof.
- the abrasive grains may have different sizes in the range of 0.5 ⁇ m to 5000 ⁇ m.
- the size and the material of the abrasive grains can be selected depending on the workpiece to be machined.
- the abrasive grain has a particle size of 105 microns to 2830 microns, more preferably from 250 microns to 2830 microns.
- oily seeds such as rapeseed are used.
- the oil contained in the plant seeds causes a lubricating effect, ie the oil reduces the friction of the abrasive grain during chip formation and thus reduces the heat development during grinding.
- the oil increases the service life of the grinding wheel and on the other hand the workpiece before protected against undesired hardening.
- the binder is a mixture of a synthetically produced polymeric compound and fillers.
- the polymeric compound may be synthetic resin, which may be used both in liquid form and in powder form. Suitable resins are, for example, polyimides, phenolic resins, epoxy resins, unsaturated polyesters, and the like.
- the invention also relates to a method for producing the grinding wheels according to the invention.
- a free-flowing mixture of abrasive grain, binder and plant seeds is produced. This mixture is poured evenly into a preformed mold and then pressed to a predetermined volume. The pellet then undergoes a curing program in an oven, exposing it to temperatures of up to 250 ° C. The pressing and curing of the grinding wheel can also be done in one step.
- the grinding wheel mixture is filled into a mold under extremely even distribution.
- the compact is used in a conventional press, for example a hydraulic press, under pressing pressures of 15 to 45 N / mm 2 , preferably 20 to 35 N / mm 2 , more preferably pressed from 30 N / mm 2 to form a green compact.
- the pressing time can be in the range of 1 to 100 seconds, preferably 5-50 seconds.
- additional reinforcements eg glass fabric
- the pressing operation is carried out at room temperature.
- the green compact is then cured at elevated temperature.
- the curing process takes place in chamber or tunnel ovens.
- the temperature can be controlled automatically by the program controller.
- the selection of a suitable curing program depends on one A series of factors such as the dimensions and structure of the disk, the filler content, the resin bond rate and the resin properties.
- the temperature at which curing occurs, we selected so that the plant seeds present in the green plant do not burn.
- the pellets are first pre-dried at temperatures between 50 ° C and 100 ° C and then at temperatures of up to 250 ° C, preferably up to 200 ° C, more preferably up to 180 ° C and in particular up to 150 ° C cured, whereby they get their final shape and texture.
- the curing process lasts between 5 and 40 hours, preferably between 10 and 30 hours and more preferably 15 hours.
- abrasive grain with a grain size of 36 ( ⁇ 500 ⁇ m) is first premixed in a mixer.
- Resol liquid phenolic resin
- the abrasive grain is evenly moistened and coated with a thin film of resin.
- a mixture of powdered phenolic resin, poppy seeds and cryolite is added.
- the recipe is composed as follows:
- the mixing process is continued until the desired homogeneous consistency is achieved.
- the grinding wheel mixture should not be too dry but dust-free and free-flowing. After its completion will be the mixture sieved and deposited for several hours.
- the press mixture is accurately weighed and conveyed by means of sliders in the mold.
- the mixture is filled into the mold with extremely even distribution.
- the compact is pressed in a conventional press, under a pressure of 30 N / mm 2 within a few seconds cold to a green compact. In order to increase the structural integrity of the grinding wheel while three tissues are mitverpresst.
- the green compact produced is clamped between metal discs and fired over a multi-stage curing profile up to a temperature of 180 ° C for a total of 15 hours. After firing, the finished grinding wheel is removed between the metal plates.
- the finished disc measures 125 x 7 x 22.23 mm and has a pleasantly cool finish.
