- the volume ratio between the average volume of the laundry stored in the drum and the nominal internal volume of the drum has significantly increased (i.e. nowadays the drum of the laundry washing machine is proportionally filled with much more laundry than in the past), causing an appreciable increase of the average thickness of laundry resting on the inner surface of the cylindrical lateral wall of the drum.
