Definitions
- the present invention relates to bleaching agents for cellulosic fibers containing a peroxide and at least one cationic acylpyridinium derivative as a bleach activator and to a corresponding process for bleaching cellulose.
- cellulose In papermaking, cellulose is the main component of any paper as a high quality fibrous substance. The few millimeters up to a few centimeters long cellulose fibers are obtained technically as so-called pulp mainly of wood. Wood consists of 40 to 50% cellulose. This must be separated as part of a wood pulping of other unwanted wood components such as lignin, hemicelluloses or resins.
- Organosolv methods do not require sulfonation of lignin. Instead of the sulfur compounds, strong acids are used as catalyst in this process and organic solvents are used to remove the lignin. However, since the cellulose itself is sensitive to acids and alkalis, the cellulose obtained by the processes described above is already damaged to a certain extent from the outset.
- the resulting crude cellulose is still brown in color due to residual lignin and resin residues.
- Cellulose bleaching can be carried out oxidatively by chlorine lime, chlorine dioxide, oxygen, ozone or hydrogen peroxide.
- the bleaching process of this raw cellulose also referred to as pulp or pulp, comprises several process stages between which the pulp is washed on washing filters. Since traces of heavy metals are present in the pulp, metal removal must be performed before peroxide bleaching to prevent catalytic decomposition of the added peroxide compounds. This can be done in a separate process stage at temperatures of 50 to 90 ° C in the weakly acidic pH range by treatment with complexing agents, such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) or Diethylendiaminpentaessigkla (DTPA).
- EDTA ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid
- DTPA Diethylendiaminpentaessigkladre
- peroxides When peroxides are used as bleaching agents, they are often used in admixture with caustic soda and water glass, the water glass serving to stabilize the hydrogen peroxide.
- the temperatures are usually in the range of 60 to 70 ° C ( HU Süss, H. Kruger, K. Schmidt; Paper (Bingen, Germany), (1980), 34 (10), 433-438 ). If the bleaching process takes place in an autoclave, temperatures of up to 120 ° C are common.
- the use of catalysts and activators to increase the effectiveness of the hydrogen peroxide in the cellulose bleach is the expert, for example from the DE 103 17 526 known.
- the heterocyclic nitrogen compounds claimed as activators in this document, according to the published examples, are in a temperature range of 90 to 120 ° C used.
- the document EP-A 0 479 319 relates to a method for chlorine-free final bleaching of a pulp bleached in at least a two-stage bleaching sequence.
- the bleaching agent used is an alkaline hydrogen peroxide solution.
- the hydrogen peroxide is activated by means of an aqueous cyanamide solution as a bleach activator to achieve higher final bleach levels.
- DE 101 53 409 claims a mixture for obtaining a bleached pulp containing a bleaching agent and a bleach activator selected from the group of quaternary N-alkylammonium acetonitrile salts.
- Further bleach activators are dicyanamides according to US 5,766,515 or glyceric acid ester WO 00/77297 and certain N-acyl compounds or benzenesulfonates EP 0 456 032 (A1 ).
- Toxicologically and ecologically harmless activator substances which increase the reactivity of the hydrogen peroxide in such a way that it is possible to carry out the bleaching process even at lower temperatures are hitherto unknown to the person skilled in the art. It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide new activator substances, by means of which a selective and gentle cellulose bleaching with high degrees of whiteness at low temperatures of up to 40 ° C is possible. Through the use of ecologically harmless activators, the environmental impact should be minimized.
- the mixtures according to the invention contain the ingredients in an aqueous carrier.
- This carrier is aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic according to the invention.
- aqueous-alcoholic carriers are to be understood as meaning water-containing compositions containing from 3 to 70% by weight of a C 1 -C 4 -alcohol, based on the total weight of the mixture, in particular ethanol or isopropanol.
- the aqueous mixtures may additionally contain other organic solvents, such as, for example, 4-methoxybutanol, ethyldiglycol, 1,2-propylene glycol, n-propanol, n-butanol, n-butylene glycol, glycerol, diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, and diethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether. Preference is given to all water-soluble organic solvents.
- an aqueous carrier contains at least 30% by weight, in particular at least 50% by weight, of water, based on the total weight of the mixture.
- the cellulosic fibers used are common materials based on vegetable raw materials.
- This cellulosic material can be obtained in different ways. Typically, it is derived directly from the plant material by mechanical means (ground wood, thermomechanical pulp), chemical pathway (sulfate pulp, sulfite pipe or soda pipe), chemical-mechanical pipe as so-called primary fibers and / or or from waste paper (secondary fibers) obtained by mechanical comminution and optionally previous de-inking (deinked pulp) and used in the mixture according to the invention.
- mechanical means ground wood, thermomechanical pulp
- chemical pathway sulfate pulp, sulfite pipe or soda pipe
- chemical-mechanical pipe as so-called primary fibers and / or or from waste paper (secondary fibers) obtained by mechanical comminution and optionally previous de-inking (deinked pulp) and used in the mixture according to the invention.
- the bleaching of primary and secondary fibers differ in that in the bleaching of unbleached primary fibers, they are largely delignified initially by alkali and oxygen during the first bleaching stage, whereas the bleaching of recycled fibers is exclusively whitening-enhancing bleaching stages ,
- the bleaching solution according to the invention can be used both in the bleaching of primary and secondary fibers.

Abstract
