Bei der dargestellten Ausführungsform ist dies dadurch verwirklicht, daß das Druckelement 8 in eine Ausnehmung 31 des Antriebselementes 11 eintaucht. Der Heftvorgang selbst löst dann aber beispielsweise die Klinke, so daß das Gerät nach diesem einzigen Heftvorgang automatisch wieder in den bevorzugten Betriebsmodus zurückfällt. Soll in dem anderen, nicht bevorzugten Betriebsmodus geheftet werden, muß dies vor jedem einzelnen Heftvorgang beispielsweise durch Betätigung einer Bedientaste eingeleitet werden. Der erfindungsgemäße Hefter verwirklicht durch seine raffinierte Konstruktion alle gestellten Anforderungen und ist doch mechanisch stabil und vor allem kompakt aufgebaut. Er kann platzsparend zusammengelegt werden (Basismodus), wie ein herkömmlicher Hefter ohne Kraftverstärkung benutzt werden (Basismodus) oder ü- ber eine Kraftverstärkung durch Hebelarm ohne Anstrengung zum Heften auch größerer Papiermengen oder von sehr festem Heftgut verwendet werden (Hebelmodus). Bei Verwendung einer Getriebeübersetzung läßt sich ein langer Hebelarm und damit ein geringer Kraftaufwand für den Heftvorgang bei gleichzeitig großer Einschubtiefe für das Heftgut verwirklichen.
