Definitions
- the invention relates to security and / or value documents, such as banknotes, checks, shares, credit cards, software certificates or ID cards, which have a carrier made of a paper material with one or more window-shaped openings and a preferably strip or thread-shaped film element.
- the disclosure WO-03/054297-A a security and / or document of value with a carrier made of a paper material and a particular strip-shaped film element having one or more optical security features, wherein the carrier has one or more window-shaped openings, which are closed by means of the film element which projects beyond the openings on all sides ,
- the invention is based on the object to propose a security and / or value document that is suitable for the use of verifiable by transmitted light security elements and is easy to further process.
- the invention is directed in particular to film elements and / or sealing layers, which do not completely cover the two sides of the paper carrier, so that the paper carrier thus in addition to temperature influences also other environmental influences such as moisture is exposed.
- the film element preferably covers one side of the paper carrier up to a maximum of 50% of its surface, in particular up to a maximum of 20% of its surface.
- the film element is designed in its surface area such that the distance between the edge of the film element fastened on the paper carrier and an edge of the opening located at the shortest distance corresponds at most to the length, width or diameter of the respective opening, but preferably not more than 50 % corresponds to the length, width or diameter of the respective opening.
- the invention is based on the finding that in the closure of the window-shaped openings of the paper carrier by means of the film element, the specific material properties of the paper material from which the carrier is made, can lead to problems in the further processing of the security and / or value document.
- the elongation behavior of the paper material is dependent both on the moisture, the fiber direction of the paper material and the temperature. Since the openings of the carrier are closed from a paper material by means of a film element whose expansion behavior differs greatly from that of the paper carrier, influences in further processing, such as moisture or temperature changes, severely worsen the result of further processing. The later use of the completed security and / or value document may also be impaired.
- the invention provides a remedy here: the openings are stabilized on the back by the sealing layer so that further processing of the security and / or value document can be carried out with the available technologies. Further advantages also result in later use of the security and / or value document, since even there temperature and humidity influences have little influence on the appearance of the security and / or value document.
- the invention makes it possible to further increase the width of security elements suitable for transmitted light in conjunction with the advantages of paper as carrier material and thus to further increase the security against forgery of security and / or value documents.
- the sealing layer covers the surface of the film element at least 80%.
- sealing layer transparent, so that it does not influence the graphic design of the security and / or value document.
- the security against forgery of the security and / or value document can be further improved by overprinting the sealing layer and / or the film element at least in regions with a print.
- changes to the film element or to the sealing layer, for example, a removal of the film element immediately visible.
- Such over-printing for example by means of steel gravure, leads to a strong influence on the temperature and humidity conditions to which the security and / or value document is exposed, so that the result greatly improved by the use of the invention.
- expansion coefficient the thermal expansion coefficient a (linear thermal expansion coefficient) understood.
- the term “expansion coefficient” furthermore refers to the extensibility of the film element and of the sealing layer, which is predetermined by the material-dependent modulus of elasticity E or its reciprocal value, the strain size 1 / E.
- the materials are deformed depending on their modulus of elasticity, wherein exceeding the elastic limit of a material leads to a permanent deformation.
- the film element If, for example, the elastic limit of the film element is exceeded earlier than the elastic limit of the sealing layer with essentially the same force input into the film element and the sealing layer, the film element is plastically deformed while the merely elastically deformed sealing layer attempts to return to its initial state. This leads to undesirable, permanent warping, which can be avoided by adapting the modulus of elasticity of the film element to the modulus of elasticity of the sealing layer.
- the sealing layer is carried out by means of a foil counterlaminated in the register, preferably a cold or hot stamping foil laminated against the register.
- the counter-laminated film preferably consists of a lacquer layer and an adhesive layer, wherein the thickness of the lacquer layer of the already stated above, preferably in the range of about 2 to 10 microns.
- a film consisting of an adhesive layer and a film body for example a PET film having a thickness of 12 to 16 ⁇ m, as the counter-laminated film.
- the counter-laminated film has a coefficient of expansion which corresponds approximately to the expansion coefficient of the film element.
- the expansion coefficient is understood to mean, on the one hand, the coefficient of linear expansion and, on the other hand, the modulus of elasticity.
- the sealing layer has an expansion coefficient which corresponds approximately to the expansion coefficient of the film element, in particular wherein the expansion coefficient corresponds to a coefficient of linear expansion or a modulus of elasticity.
- the sealing layer has a coefficient of linear expansion, which deviates by not more than 10%, preferably not more than 5%, from a coefficient of linear expansion of the film element.
- the sealing layer thus undergoes approximately the same change in length as the film element, so that no or essentially no warping occurs in the region of the window-shaped opening of the carrier.
- This proves to be particularly advantageous when stacking, for example, banknotes or further processing of the carrier in an automated process, in which a flat surface is required, for example, in printing, embossing or the like.
- the sealing layer has a modulus of elasticity which deviates by not more than 10%, preferably not more than 5%, from the modulus of elasticity of the film element.
- a modulus of elasticity which deviates by not more than 10%, preferably not more than 5%, from the modulus of elasticity of the film element.
- this document of value represents a check, a traveler's check, a stock or software certificate, a security document, for example a passport or the like.
- the value document after Fig. 1 has a carrier 1 made of a paper material.
- the paper material is preferably a paper grade used for banknotes, which in a known manner with watermarks, special Imprinting and other security elements can be provided.
- Such further security elements consist for example of a steel gravure printing, of a micro-pressure or a reflective security feature, for example a hologram or a color-change element.
- the carrier 1 made of a paper material preferably has a thickness of about 100 microns.
- the carrier 1 is normally part of a paper web or a sheet of paper, upon completion of the document of value, from which documents of value are made upon completion Fig. 1 get cut.
- the carrier 1 has a plurality of window-like openings 31 to 36. These window-like openings can be arranged in any arrangement and shape in the region of a film element 2.
- the apertures 31 to 36 are in this case produced prior to application of the film element 2 in the paper sheet by means of a punching or cutting process, preferably by means of conventional punching, by laser or water jet cutting.
- a punching or cutting process preferably by means of conventional punching, by laser or water jet cutting.
- the film element 2 preferably has a strip or thread-like shape, preferably with a strip width in the range of 4 to 30 mm.
- the film element 2 preferably extends across the entire width or length of the carrier 1, whereby the application of the film element 2 from a production point of view is simplified.
- the carrier film 21 consists of a PET or BOPP film with a layer thickness of 10 to 50 ⁇ m.
- the function of the carrier film 21 in this case is to provide the necessary stability for the bridging of the apertures 31 to 36, so that the thickness of the carrier film 21 preferably to be selected is determined essentially by the width of the apertures 31 to 36.
- the composite of these layers already has the necessary mechanical stability, so that the carrier film 21 can be dispensed with.
- the decorative layer 22 has in the in Fig. 2 an adhesion promoter layer 23, a first lacquer layer 24, an optical separation layer 25 and an adhesive layer 26 shown.
- the primer layer 23 has a thickness in the range of 0.2 to 2 microns and is applied to the carrier film 21 by means of a printing process. Under certain circumstances, the adhesion promoter layer 23 can also be dispensed with if sufficient adhesion between the carrier film 21 and the first lacquer layer 24 has already been achieved or if the carrier film 21 is dispensed with.
- the first lacquer layer 24 is a replicate lacquer layer consisting of a thermoplastic or crosslinked polymer into which a diffractive structure 27 is replicated by means of a replication tool under the action of heat and pressure.
- a lacquer of the following composition can be used as the lacquer for the first lacquer layer 24, which lacquer is applied over the entire surface with a basis weight of about 2.2 g / m 2 after drying:
- the diffractive structure 27 is embossed by means of an embossing die.
- the optical separation layer 25 is applied to the first lacquer layer 24.
- the optical separation layer 24 may be a transparent material that differs significantly in its refractive index from the refractive index of the resist layer 24, so that the diffractive structure 27 provides a transparent security feature. Furthermore, it is possible to apply as the optical separating layer 25 a metal layer over the whole area or partially onto the first lacquer layer 24.
- a material for such a metal layer for example, aluminum, chromium, gold or silver, or an alloy of these materials can be used.
- the metallization is in this case preferably by vapor deposition or Sputtering applied to the first lacquer layer 24.
- HRI or LRI (High Refraction Index) layer it is also possible to apply an HRI or LRI (High Refraction Index) layer over the full area or partially to the first lacquer layer 24.
- the HRI or LRI layer preferably consists of a suitable dielectric, eg TiO 2 or ZnS (for HRI) or MgF 2 (for LRI).
- the decorative layer 22 may further comprise a polarization layer in the region of the opening 35, which consists for example of a layer of oriented and crosslinked liquid crystal polymers. As a result, a further security feature in the region of the opening 35 is provided.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to security and / or value documents, such as banknotes, checks, shares, credit cards, software certificates or ID cards, which have a carrier made of a paper material with one or more window-shaped openings and a preferably strip or thread-shaped film element.
There is a need to provide security and / or value documents with security features that make it difficult and possibly prevent counterfeiting of these documents. Here it is already known to provide security and / or value documents with transmissive security features that can be checked when viewing the transmitted light and offer a particularly high level of security against imitation by means of a color copier.
So beschreibt beispielsweise
However, this approach has the disadvantage that security threads, after they must be incorporated into the paper web, only relatively small width not to disturb the cohesion of the paper itself. This is particularly the case when the paper web is exposed congruently on both sides to allow the viewing of a security element in the transmitted light. Furthermore, it is necessary here to use security threads of greater thickness, so that the security threads, despite their narrow width, have sufficient tensile strength. This thickening located in a relatively narrow area leads to a poor flatness of the sheets and thus to problems in the further processing of the value document.

The invention is based on the object to propose a security and / or value document that is suitable for the use of verifiable by transmitted light security elements and is easy to further process.
This object is achieved by a security and / or value document according to
The invention is directed in particular to film elements and / or sealing layers, which do not completely cover the two sides of the paper carrier, so that the paper carrier thus in addition to temperature influences also other environmental influences such as moisture is exposed. In this case, the film element preferably covers one side of the paper carrier up to a maximum of 50% of its surface, in particular up to a maximum of 20% of its surface. Preferably, the film element is designed in its surface area such that the distance between the edge of the film element fastened on the paper carrier and an edge of the opening located at the shortest distance corresponds at most to the length, width or diameter of the respective opening, but preferably not more than 50 % corresponds to the length, width or diameter of the respective opening.
The invention is based on the finding that in the closure of the window-shaped openings of the paper carrier by means of the film element, the specific material properties of the paper material from which the carrier is made, can lead to problems in the further processing of the security and / or value document. Thus, the elongation behavior of the paper material is dependent both on the moisture, the fiber direction of the paper material and the temperature. Since the openings of the carrier are closed from a paper material by means of a film element whose expansion behavior differs greatly from that of the paper carrier, influences in further processing, such as moisture or temperature changes, severely worsen the result of further processing. The later use of the completed security and / or value document may also be impaired. The invention provides a remedy here: the openings are stabilized on the back by the sealing layer so that further processing of the security and / or value document can be carried out with the available technologies. Further advantages also result in later use of the security and / or value document, since even there temperature and humidity influences have little influence on the appearance of the security and / or value document. The invention makes it possible to further increase the width of security elements suitable for transmitted light in conjunction with the advantages of paper as carrier material and thus to further increase the security against forgery of security and / or value documents.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention are designated in the subclaims.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the sealing layer covers the surface of the film element at least 80%. By such a full-surface back stabilization of the film element, the penetration of moisture into the paper support is largely prevented, whereby the expansion behavior of the paper support is significantly affected. Further, this provides a mechanical compensation to the film element, whereby the emergence of bulges is further complicated.
Further advantages arise when the surface of the sealing layer has 100 to 120% of the area of the film element. On the one hand, this results in tolerances for the register-accurate application of the sealing layer and, on the other hand, an unfavorable influence on the processing behavior due to an excessively large sealing layer is avoided.
It is expedient to make the sealing layer transparent, so that it does not influence the graphic design of the security and / or value document.
The security against forgery of the security and / or value document can be further improved by overprinting the sealing layer and / or the film element at least in regions with a print. As a result, changes to the film element or to the sealing layer, for example, a removal of the film element, immediately visible. Such over-printing, for example by means of steel gravure, leads to a strong influence on the temperature and humidity conditions to which the security and / or value document is exposed, so that the result greatly improved by the use of the invention.
The term "expansion coefficient" on the one hand, the thermal expansion coefficient a (linear thermal expansion coefficient) understood. With a temperature change in the region of the window-shaped opening in the carrier, the lengths of the film element and the sealing layer change depending on the material used for their formation. If the film element expands or shrinks more than the sealing layer when the temperature changes, this leads to undesirable warping in the region of the window-shaped opening.
On the other hand, the term "expansion coefficient" furthermore refers to the extensibility of the film element and of the sealing layer, which is predetermined by the material-dependent modulus of elasticity E or its reciprocal value, the
The sealing layer is carried out by means of a foil counterlaminated in the register, preferably a cold or hot stamping foil laminated against the register. The counter-laminated film preferably consists of a lacquer layer and an adhesive layer, wherein the thickness of the lacquer layer of the already stated above, preferably in the range of about 2 to 10 microns. Furthermore, it is also possible to use a film consisting of an adhesive layer and a film body, for example a PET film having a thickness of 12 to 16 μm, as the counter-laminated film.
It is particularly preferred if the counter-laminated film has a coefficient of expansion which corresponds approximately to the expansion coefficient of the film element. As already described, the expansion coefficient is understood to mean, on the one hand, the coefficient of linear expansion and, on the other hand, the modulus of elasticity.
In general, it has proved to be advantageous if the sealing layer has an expansion coefficient which corresponds approximately to the expansion coefficient of the film element, in particular wherein the expansion coefficient corresponds to a coefficient of linear expansion or a modulus of elasticity.
It has proved to be advantageous if the sealing layer has a coefficient of linear expansion, which deviates by not more than 10%, preferably not more than 5%, from a coefficient of linear expansion of the film element. When the temperature changes, the sealing layer thus undergoes approximately the same change in length as the film element, so that no or essentially no warping occurs in the region of the window-shaped opening of the carrier. This proves to be particularly advantageous when stacking, for example, banknotes or further processing of the carrier in an automated process, in which a flat surface is required, for example, in printing, embossing or the like.
It is furthermore preferred if the sealing layer has a modulus of elasticity which deviates by not more than 10%, preferably not more than 5%, from the modulus of elasticity of the film element. Such a construction of film element and sealing layer allows optimal handling of the finished security or value document. Banknotes will be Usually mechanically stressed in the region of the window-shaped openings, for example by folding. In the case of a poor adaptation of the modulus of elasticity of the sealing layer to the modulus of elasticity of the film element, this can lead to permanent warping which, on the one hand, results in optical impairment of the banknote and, on the other hand, can lead to technical faults in ATMs.

The metallization is in this case preferably by vapor deposition or Sputtering applied to the first lacquer layer 24.
