Definitions

  • the invention relates to a yam feeding device according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • DE-A-10 2006 001 125 discloses a yarn brake mounted in a yarn feeding device.
  • the conical, elastic braking body is secured by a snap connection to a holder ring.
  • the braking body and the holder ring are equipped with mutually repelling permanent magnet arrangements, each either constituted by a plurality of circumferentially distributed single permanent magnet pieces or by a permanent magnet ring.
  • the holder ring is secured to a slider provided in the housing arm.
  • the slider is adjustable in axial direction of the storage body by a threaded spindle, which is rotatably supported in the housing arm.
  • the spindle is connected with a rotary knob at the free end of the housing arm for carrying out gradual adjustments of the relative axial position of the permanent magnet arrangement of the holder ring in order to vary the braking effect between the braking body and the withdrawal end of the storage body.
  • the holder ring has to be adjusted relatively far by rotating the spindle until the braking body clears the withdrawal end of the storage body. Thereafter, the same procedure has to be carried out to again position the braking body with the correct contact pressure on the withdrawal end of the storage body.
  • WO 2006/048053 A relates to a yarn feeding device containing a yarn brake with a conical, elastic braking body axially and resiliently co-operating with the withdrawal end of the storage body.
  • the braking body is urged away from a support by mutually repelling permanent magnet arrangements against the withdrawal end.
  • An annular holder carrying the permanent magnet arrangement of the support (either single permanent magnet pieces or a permanent magnet ring) is secured to a slider, which gradually can be adjusted in axial direction in the housing arm.
  • the holder supports a basket carrying the permanent magnet arrangement of the support.
  • a conical inner basket is loosely fitted into the outer basket.
  • the inner basket is equipped with the permanent magnet arrangement of the braking body.
  • the small diameter end of the braking body is snapped into the small diameter end of the inner basket.
  • EP 0 534 263 A relates to a yarn feeding device having a yarn brake with a generally conical braking body.
  • the braking body is supported at the small diameter end in a spring arrangement.
  • the spring arrangement is secured to a ring-shaped holder.
  • the ring-shaped holder can be adjusted in axial direction of the storage body via a slider and a threaded spindle in the housing arm.
  • US-A-6,164,580 relates to a yam feeding device comprising a yarn brake with a conical braking body.
  • the yarn braking body is loosely supported via a universal joint and on a yam withdrawal tube.
  • the small diameter end of the braking body is axially urged by a spring arrangement in the support.
  • the other end of the spring arrangement abuts at a collar, which is supported against relative rotation in the support.
  • the yarn withdrawal tube has a rotary knob at the free end of the support for rotating the yarn withdrawal tube in relation to the collar in order to adjust the spring load.
  • WO 97/03908 -A relates to a yarn feeding device comprising a yarn brake with a frustoconical braking body which is supported at the large diameter end by an elastic bellows.
  • the bellows is secured to a holder ring, which in turn is secured to a slider in a housing arm.
  • the axial position of the slider can be gradually adjusted by an axially extending threaded spindle in the housing having a rotary knob at the free end of the housing arm.
  • the housing arm contains a quick adjustment assembly for axially moving the slider over a large stroke.
  • the quick adjustment assembly has a sidewardly protruding handle and a collar coupled to the housing arm via a pin/slot coupling.
  • the quick adjustment assembly has to be operated for both stroke directions, i.e. for positioning the braking body in the gap position and for returning the braking body into the home position.
  • the previously adjusted braking effect as adjusted by the rotary position of the spindle, is established again.
  • Practice has proven that after a maintenance process, a cleaning cycle, a yam threading step, or after replacement of a braking body, operators tend to forget to return the braking body into the home position.
  • the relative axial position of the permanent magnet arrangement of the support is gradually varied by the screw device. This allows to precisely and reproducibly adjust the proper braking effect between the braking body and the withdrawal end of the storage body.
  • the quick adjustment assembly is operated to quickly move the permanent magnet arrangement of the support together with the screw device within the support over a large stroke extending over several thread pitches of the screw device, e.g. by a comfortable rapid one-handed manipulation.
  • the braking body which in the operative position is secured in place between the withdrawal end and the support by the contact pressure and the urging force of the permanent magnet arrangement then easily can be taken away for replacement.
  • the combination of the screw device and the quick adjustment assembly allows to comfortably execute two different manipulations, namely either to gradually and precisely adjust the braking effect with the help of the screw device, or to cancel the urging force of the permanent magnet arrangement and to move the screw device away either for maintenance procedures, cleaning cycles, a replacement of the braking body, or a threading process of a new yarn.
  • the manipulation of the quick adjustment assembly does not change the previous setting of the braking effect.
  • the actuation of the quick adjustment assembly can be carried out with one hand and very rapidly, because the quick adjustment assembly is not intended for fine adjustments of the braking effect, but is a helpful tool in case of emergency conditions which tend to occur in practice regularly or irregularly.
  • the combination of both assemblies can be realised for fair cost and results in a compact, and reliable yam brake which is perfectly adapted to practical requirements and meets high user requirements.
  • the yam brake can be realised for fair costs at the yam feeding device, provided that the adjustment assembly and the quick adjustment assembly share components within the support. This results as well in compact dimensions of the yarn brake, because both assemblies, so to speak, are integrated into each other.
  • the quick adjustment assembly is manually operable in only one axial stroke direction counter to spring force but returns the permanent magnet arrangement of the support and the screw device automatically by spring force into the home position when the the quick adjustment assembly is released by an operator.
  • This is of particular advantage because practice has proven that operators frequently tend to forget to manually return the braking body into the correct operative position, causing a subsequent malfunction of the yarn brake and faults in the fabric produced.
  • the stroke direction which has to be operated manually, is oriented away from the withdrawal end of the storage body. It is, however, feasible, to load the quick adjustment assembly in the opposite stroke position by the spring force.
  • the adjustment assembly and the quick adjustment assembly share a common actuation element.
  • the actuation element is turned in order to carry out gradual and fine adjustments.
  • the common actuation element instead is displaced axially, e.g. pulled with one hand in relation to the support.
  • the actuation element of both assemblies is a rotary and pull knob which is easy to handle.
  • the knob is situated coaxially with respect to the axis of the yam brake and the storage body and contains a yam passage.
  • the knob is located at an end of the support remote from the storage body.
  • the knob is located at another position at the support, e.g. closer to the braking body.
  • the support is a ring-shaped housing which either is integrated into the housing arm or is mounted to the housing arm.
  • the housing accommodates a yarn withdrawal tube in order to guide the yarn through without any obstructions.
  • the yam withdrawal tube can be equipped with yam eyelets, as is conventional, in order to reduce the mechanical load for the yam and to provide smooth transitions.
  • the yarn brake then can be a completely pre-assembled sub-unit of the yarn feeding device.
  • the actuation element is provided directly at the yarn withdrawal tube, preferably, is even unitarily integrated with the yarn withdrawal tube.
  • the braking body in a preferred embodiment in the operative position, is loosely seated via a universal joint on a positioning end of the yarn withdrawal tube.
  • the positioning end faces the storage body.
  • the permanent magnet arrangement of the support is in threadable engagement with the yam withdrawal tube which is rotatably provided within the housing, and, in addition, can be axially displaced counter the spring force.
  • the spring force holds the not actuated quick adjustment assembly and the screw device in the home position.
  • the spring force expediently, is stronger than the contact pressure between the braking body and the withdrawal end of the storage body.
  • a stop element is provided at the yarn withdrawal tube and at the side of the permanent magnet arrangement of the support remote from the storage body.
  • the stop element positions a tube housing axially on the yarn withdrawal tube.
  • the tube housing surrounds the yarn withdrawal tube and at least the permanent magnet arrangement of the support, preferably even also the permanent magnet arrangement of the braking body, such that lint and other contamination are hindered from intruding into the interior of the tube housing.
  • At least one axially acting spring is provided in the support and urges the tube housing in one axial direction.
  • the tube housing is axially movably provided in the support, but is hindered against rotation in relation to the support.
  • the permanent magnet arrangement of the support is held axially movable but is hindered against rotation in relation to the support by the stop element and/or by the tubular housing. While the yarn withdrawal tube is rotated in order to adjust the braking effect the permanent magnet arrangement of the support does not rotate with it but moves axially due to the threaded engagement between the yarn withdrawal tube and the permanent magnet arrangement.
  • the permanent magnet arrangement of the support is provided in a holder ring, preferably is glued to the holder ring.
  • the holder ring has an interior thread, which can be threaded on an outer thread of the yarn withdrawal tube.
  • the holder ring facilitates a proper securement of the permanent magnet arrangement and functions as a component, which imparts the axial movement to the permanent magnet arrangement when operating either one of the adjustment assemblies.
  • the tube housing has at least one axial guidance for a guiding element provided at the holder ring.
  • the guidance preferably, is an axial gliding slot into which a guiding nose engages which is formed at the periphery of the holder ring.
  • the engagement between the guiding nose and the guiding slot hinders the holder ring from rotating in relation to the support when the yarn withdrawal tube is rotated, and allows a smooth axial movement of the holder ring.
  • the rotary and pull knob may be provided with circumferentially distributed grip members for a hand and, preferably, also with at least one circumferentially extending pulling bead. An operator can comfortably manipulate both adjustment assemblies even with wet or greasy hands.
  • a rotary ratchet mechanism may be provided between the rotary and pull knob and the housing of the support.
  • the rotary ratchet mechanism allows fine adjustments of the braking effect to be reproduced. Respective markings at the rotary and pull knob and the housing allow to visually follow the adjustments carried out.
  • the axial distance between the withdrawal end of the storage body and the housing of the support is shorter than the axial measure by which the braking body, when contacting the withdrawal end, extends into the housing of the support. This assures that the braking body, at least in the operative position, cannot fall off inadvertently.
  • the axial distance is selected such that upon actuation of the quick adjustment assembly the necessary free access will be guaranteed and that the braking body then can be removed easily.
  • the stroke carried out upon actuation of the quick adjustment assembly is larger than an axial overlap between the small diameter end of the braking body and the positioning end of the yarn withdrawal tube, the overlap existing in the operative position of the braking body, i.e. when the braking body contacts the withdrawal end.
  • a yarn feeding device F in Fig. 1 is intended for operation in a textile machine like a knitting machine or a weaving machine.
  • the shown yarn feeding device F e.g. is intended for use in a circular knitting machine for temporarily storing a yarn and feeding the yam upon demand into a not shown knitting system.
  • the yarn feeding device F has a housing 1 and a housing arm 2 extending axially along a stationary, drum-shaped storage body 3.
  • the free end of the housing arm 2 is bent downwardly and carries a yarn brake B and a yarn guiding element 8 (yarn eyelet).
  • a winding element 4 is rotatable by a not shown electric motor in the housing 1 in relation to the stationary storage body 3.
  • the storage body 3 has a convexly rounded withdrawal end 3a.
  • the yarnm brake B comprises a generally conical braking body 5, the cone axis of which coincides substantially with the axis X of the storage body 3.
  • the braking body 5 is put with a large diameter end over the withdrawal end 3a and is yieldably axially pressed against the withdrawal end 3a in order to establish a braking effect for the yarn which is withdrawn from a winding package on the periphery of the storage body 3 over the withdrawal end 3a and through a braking nip between the inner surface of the braking body 5 and the withdrawal end 3a.
  • the yarn braking effect has to be adjusted very precisely and may result from an axial contact pressure of a few grams only.
  • the yarn brake B has a stationary support 6 mounted to or integrated into the free end of the housing arm 2.
  • the support 6 accommodates both an adjustment assembly E for gradually adjusting the braking effect and a quick adjustment assembly Q for moving inner components of the support 6 over a large stroke in order to e.g. provide access to the inner side of the braking body 5 or the region between the small diameter end of the braking body 5 and the support 6, e.g. for maintenance procedures, cleaning cycles, or for replacing the braking body 5, or for threading a new yarn through the yarn brake B.
  • Both adjustment assemblies E, Q have a common actuation element 7, in the shown embodiment a rotary and pull knob 19 in which the yarn guiding element 8 is mounted.
  • the rotary and pull knob 19 selectively is rotated in order to actuate the adjustment assembly E or is pulled out axially from the support 6 in order to actuate the quick adjustment assembly Q.
  • the periphery of the rotary and pull knob 19 may be provided with circumferentially distributed grip members 9 for the rotation and at least one circumferentially extending pull bead 10 for the pulling action.
  • the rotary and pull knob 19 even may be manually pushed back into the shown home position.
  • a transparent cover 11 for a signal lamp is provided in the lower region of the support 6 .
  • the yarn feeding device F can be mounted at a not shown carrier structure by means of fixation 12 of the housing 1.
  • Fig. 2 e.g. is a horizontal axial sectional view of the yarn brake B as e.g. implemented in the yarn feeding device F of Fig. 1 .
  • the conical braking body 5 has a small diameter end 13 which is, preferably loosely, secured between an inner funnel-shaped ring 14 and an outer ring 15 of L shape. Both rings 14, 15, expediently, are connected to each other by a snap connection.
  • the inner ring 14 has a convexly curved inner surface 16 in order to cooperate like a universal joint with a cylindrical positioning end 17 of a yam withdrawal tube 18 defining an axial yam passage through the yam brake B.
  • the inner ring 14 is loosely seated on the positioning end 17, i.e. with some radial clearance.
  • the outer ring 15 carries a permanent magnet arrangement P1 of the braking body 5, i.e. either several circumferentially distributed single permanent magnet pieces or a circumferentially continuous permanent magnet ring.
  • the actuation element 7, ie. the rotary and pull knob 19 is connected with the free end of the yarn withdrawal tube 18, preferably is unitary with the yam withdrawal tube 18, and is situated at the free end of the support 6 remote from the braking body 5.
  • the yam withdrawal tube 18 is provided with an exterior or outer thread 18a, which is in threadable engagement with a permanent magnet arrangement P2 of the support 6.
  • the permanent magnet arrangement P2 as well may be constituted by a plurality of circumferentially distributed single permanent magnet pieces or, as shown, by a circumferentially continuous permanent magnet ring.
  • the permanent magnet arrangement P2 of the support 6 is secured in a holder ring 20, preferably is glued into the holder ring 20.
  • the holder ring 20 has a U-shaped cross-section and an inner thread 21 engaging into the thread pitches of the outer thread 18a of the yam withdrawal tube 18.
  • Both permanent magnet arrangements P1, P2 are magnetised with opposite polarities such that they repel each other in axial direction.
  • the repelling force imparted onto the small diameter end 13 of the braking body 5 is adjustable by the adjustment assembly E by varying the axial distance between the permanent magnet arrangements P1, P2, i.e., in the embodiment shown, by varying the relative axial position of the permanent magnet arrangement P2 of the support 6 within the support 6.
  • the holder ring 20 is hindered against rotation relative to the housing 28 either by a not shown abutment surface of the stop element 23 or by the tube housing 24, such that upon rotation of the yam withdrawal tube 18 the holder ring 20 is displaced exclusively axially.
  • the yam withdrawal tube 18 has a peripheral circumferential groove 22.
  • a ring-shaped stop element 23 is inserted into the groove 22.
  • the stop element 23 e.g. may be a split ring like a Seeger ring.
  • the stop element 23 defines the shown extreme relative axial position of the permanent magnet arrangement P2, as is provided at the side of the holder ring 20 remote from the braking body 5.
  • a tube housing 24 surrounds both permanent magnet arrangements P1, P2 and the yam withdrawal tube 18.
  • the front end 25 of the tube housing 24 surrounds the outer ring 15 with a radial clearance.
  • the tube housing 24 has a rear inwardly extending flange 26 abutting at the rear side of the stop element 23 in order to axially position the tube housing 24 in relation to the yam withdrawal tube 18.
  • the periphery of the tube housing 24 carries several, circumferentially distributed pins 27, each extending substantially parallel to the axis of the yam withdrawal tube 18. This axis substantially coincides with the cone axis of the braking body 5 and the axis X of the storage body 3.
  • the support 6 is a ring-shaped housing 28 surrounding the tube housing 24. Circumferentially distributed, axial blind holes 29 of the housing 28 accommodate compression springs 30. Each pin 27 of the tube housing 24 is inserted into one spring 30 and the blind hole 29 such that the tube housing 24 is urged in axial direction (in Fig. 2 to the left side) until the flange 26 firmly abuts the stop element 23.
  • the braking body 5 is axially yieldably pressed against the withdrawal end 3a of the storage body 3 with the weakest possible axial force, because the holder ring 20 abuts the stop element 23.
  • the knob 19 is rotated in order to displace the holder ring 20 in Fig. 2 to the left side.
  • the quick adjustment assembly Q is actuated by pulling the rotary and pull knob in Fig. 2 over a large axial stroke to the right side and counter to the forces of the springs 30, e.g. until the tube housing 24 abuts at the housing 28.
  • This pulling action does not only change the relative axial position of the holder ring 20 with the permanent magnet arrangement P2 of the support 6, but also the relative axial position of the tube housing 24 and the yarn withdrawal tube 18 in relation to the support 6.
  • the permanent magnet arrangements P1, P2 do not further repel each other, but the braking body 5 only remains hanging on the withdrawal end 3a.

  • the release of the braking body 5 allows to clean inside the braking body 5 or in the region of the outer ring 15, to carry out maintenance procedures, to thread in a new yam through the yam brake B, or even to remove the braking body 5 and to insert another one.
  • the axial distance between the support 6 and the storage body 3 may be selected such that the braking body 5 cannot fall off inadvertently in case of minimum braking effect.
  • the axial stroke imparted by the quick adjustment assembly Q is larger than the measure of the axial overlap between the inner ring 16 and the positioning end 17 and also larger than several consecutive thread pitches of the thread screw device 18a, 21, such that the braking body 5 then can be removed easily.
  • the rotary and pull knob 19 has to be held manually in the pulled position (to the right side in Fig. 2 ) until the respective manipulations are finished or until the braking body 5 has been replaced. As soon as then the rotary and pull knob 19 is released by the operator's hand, the springs 30 automatically will adjust the position as shown in Fig. 2 , meaning that the previously adjusted braking effect (axial relative position of the holder ring 20) is re-established. The knob 19, however, even may be pushed, if necessary, back into the home position of Fig. 2 .
  • Fig. 3 is an axial section in a section plane essentially vertical in Fig. 1 and shows a light source 33 below the transparent cover 11 provided at the lower side of the housing 28.
