Die Spreader sind in je einem gemeinsamen Hubbalken vorn und hinten gelagert und unabhängig voneinander in Seitenrichtung zu bewegen. Bei dieser Bauweise können die beiden Spreader flach ausgeführt sein, so daß eine geringe Höhe des Portalhubstaplers möglich ist. Die Beweglichkeit zur Seite ist derart ausgelegt, daß vor dem Absetzen der Container ein Auseinanderfahren möglich ist, so daß die erforderliche Fahrgasse für einen herkömmlichen Straddle Carrier vor dem Absetzen geöffnet werden kann. Entsprechend können auch in größerem Abstrand parallel stehende Container aufgenommen und zusammengefahren und zum Beschicken von Ship-to-Shore-Kranen von einem Vorstapelbereich zu dem Ort verfahren werden, in dem die Frachtcontainer vom Spreadersystem des Portalhubkranes erfaßt werden.
