Definitions

  • the lights usually consisted of a lamp holder with a light bulb in a reflector, and possibly a transformer, the light of the lamp was bundled and distributed sensibly by a lens to specifications to the visibility requirements of the traffic suffice.
  • These systems are typically open, meaning that they require a sealed housing to keep moisture, dirt and corrosive substances away from the sensitive optical surfaces and the live components. The case must be able to be opened to change the lamp.
  • the signal generator consists of interconnected individual housings, the so-called chambers, each containing a light. Each chamber is closed at the front with a sealed lid, the so-called front, in which the stray lens is tightly inserted, or even more components of the optics are installed. From such elements, the known single, two and triple, sometimes multi-chamber signal generator are composed.
  • LED inserts consistently have a smaller overall depth and therefore fit into the existing recordings of the signal generator housing, whereby a simple replacement is guaranteed.
  • they differ from the conventional optics by an indispensable control electronics located inside them, which is why they themselves are completely sealed.
  • a new housing for signalers should be produced with minimal material costs and modular.
  • the LED inserts should be replaced in case of a defect from the outside without opening the case. There should be large openings for the supply of cables, but also for the use of modern plug systems, with further use of existing fastening systems.
  • the signal generator should be able to be assembled quickly without screwing and have a pleasing, smooth, easy to clean outer contour.
  • the space between the LED inserts should be usable as for profile housings for other installations such as sensors or control boards. Of course, all requirements must be met according to various general regulations and loads, such as safety against vandalism, electric shock, as well as fire protection and wind load.
  • US Pat. No. 6,145,683 discloses a modular housing according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • the DE 20 2006 014 987 U1 discloses a signaling system with a housing and a pivotally mounted door. Three separate signal lights are each housed in a housing. This document primarily relates to the configuration of the door with a recessed receptacle for the LED lighting device, but contains no further disclosure of the housing itself.
  • a disadvantage is the effort of looping through the electrical connections, lack of use of the spaces, and the effort to produce each closed chambers.
  • US 4,117,456 (Albrecht ) introduces a signal generator of half chambers. These are connected with each other arbitrarily. The wiring is made through the openings. The problem is the tightness of the split openings.
  • the chambers also show two longitudinal slots for receiving so-called contrast apertures, which consist of at least two parts in order to insert them into the column can.
  • US 3,991,400 (Buehler ) shows a basically widespread construction.
  • the individual chambers are held together by one screw in the rear, the Cables are passed through holes in this area.
  • Each chamber is closed by a front with sealed-in dispersion lens.
  • a disadvantage is the effort of threading through the wiring, the complete disassembly when replacing a chamber, or the lack of use of the spaces.
  • CA 2,025,777 shows a solution that relieves the chambers of the wind forces and this passes on an integrated steel pipe. As a result, the chambers can be made weaker.
  • U.S. 4,189,709 shows a solution in a related field, namely a roof signal lamp for emergency vehicles.
  • a roof signal lamp for emergency vehicles On a transversely mounted over the vehicle roof continuous rail front several transparent colored elements are plugged in front and behind, which are fixed to each other by means of a circumferential, easy to put together tongue and groove connection.
  • end cover By end cover a common interior is formed, in which the rotary headlights and especially the continuous gear drive are housed.
  • integrally blown hollow body are known as signaling device. Also, this technology is inflexible and relatively expensive, because all openings edited later and additional connectors must be mounted on the hollow body.
  • the housing according to the invention now consists of any number of linear juxtaposed body and front elements, as well as lids and end parts, the body elements via integrated tongue and groove joints at their ends with itself (with other body elements), as well as with the upper and lower lid with the same connection geometry are pushed together form-fitting and held together with connecting means and form the body, the front elements as well integrated via integrated tongue and groove connections at their ends with itself (with other front elements), and with the upper and lower end part with the same connection geometry form-fitting and with connecting means are held together and form the front, and body and front via an integrated tongue and groove joint to each other form-fitting pushed or -masked and held together by means of connecting means.
  • a stiff hollow body is formed, which can be equipped with any attachments or openings.
  • Fig. 1a shows the body and front elements of a simple housing before joining.
  • the body element 1 has a substantially U-shaped cross-section. At its one end face, a circumferential rib, the so-called spring 2, can be seen on the inside. At the other end face a thickening 3 is present, which includes an outer circumferential groove, the groove 4.
  • the surfaces of groove 4 and spring 2 and the direct connection surfaces are geometrically identical and oriented such that they can be demolded in the same direction as the body element 1 itself.
  • the tongue and groove geometry as a base once on one side of the body element and on the other side of the associated mold, or vice versa.
  • the upper cover 5 has the same connection geometry of the spring 2, the lower cover 6 that of the groove 4. Otherwise close the lid 5, 6, the U-shaped body elements 1 in any configuration to a stable body 10 from, as in Fig. 1b shown.
  • the body edges 7, 7 ' lie in one plane.
  • the interior 9 is continuously usable in its entirety.
  • the thickening 3 in the groove / spring connections 4/2 also serve to stabilize the body. If the tongue and groove connections 4/2 have approximately the same wall thicknesses as the body element 1 and are kept compact, then the composite body 10 also has approximately the same strength and stability as a one-piece body or a profile housing, and is thus conventional glands statically far superior to single chambers.
  • the front elements 11 are connected to each other via grooves 14 and springs 12. However, there is a difference in that the front elements form a groove 18 for receiving the body edge 7.
  • the front elements 11 therefore have a short-legged U-shaped cross section with an outer edge 17, which engages over the outside over the body edge 7.
  • the tongue and groove connections 14/12 run like the body element into the short legs.
  • Fig. 1b shows body 10 and front 20 open faced and in assembly. It can be seen the groove 18 in the front, which has the same geometry as the body edge 7, 7 '. If the front 20 is now placed on the body 10, then the body edge 7, 7 'together with thickenings 3 fits exactly into the circumferential groove 18. A labyrinth seal is thus formed, into which a suitable sealing part or a sealing cord can be inserted as required ,
  • the exact formation of the thickenings 3 in the inner web 19 also provides stability with respect to forces and displacements along the body walls. These occur when the housing is generally subjected to bending or torsion.
  • cover and end parts can already contain half a chamber, so that in this configuration already a housing with a chamber results, without using body and front elements.
  • the predetermined Entformungsraum allows favorable, simple ways such as attachment tabs 21 on the body or front or openings in the front elements or in the bottom of the body. Because of the simple demolding of the base geometry and complicated fittings or about inputs and outputs can be provided with threads or latches, without requiring too complicated molds.
  • the cohesion of the parts can be ensured in many ways. When pressing and plugging together, you can glue together the body as well as the front elements. Here you also get an improved seal. If one looks at security screws or releasable snap connections, then one can Disassemble, extend or replace defective parts.
  • Fig. 2 shows an inventive housing for a signal generator in the open state.
  • Carcass and front elements 1, 11 are pushed together as before by means of tongue and groove 4/2, 14/12.
  • the cohesion is secured here by snap hooks 22.
  • screw holes 23 for connection possible. In particular, these are also intended for attachment of internals.
  • covers 5, 6 and end parts 15, 16 have the same connection geometries.
  • the labyrinth seal is not done here with the outer edge, it is for a separate inner circumferential ridge 8 available.
  • the circumferential groove 18 is offset inwards in the front. Bridge 8 and groove 18 fit seamlessly into each other at each point.
  • the outer surfaces 7a and 17a serve on the one hand the design of a flawless appearance, on the other hand they protect the labyrinth seal 8/18 from dirt and direct jet water access during cleaning.
  • hidden Schnapplaschen 24 are mounted, which engage in closing the front in the front hook 25. Unlocking is accomplished by flexing these snap tabs 24 inwardly by means of a small plunger for which small apertures 26 are present. If the housing can not be opened, these openings are simply omitted.
  • the gap 9a also serves to dissipate penetrated water.
  • the labyrinth 8/18 is not straight, but is adapted to existing contours such as the mounting apertures 27 of the front and internals such as screw holes 23a and screw domes 28, which prevents displacement and significant shear, bending and torsional forces can be collected, as in signalers occur in a storm.
  • Labyrinth web 8 and groove sidewalls are also held together at the part boundaries by means of positive labyrinthine overlaps 29, sealed and positioned exactly to each other, which can be pushed together as well as the outside running around tongue and groove joints.
  • Top and bottom covers 5 and 6 also have a surrounding outer surface 7 'and are provided with relatively large openings 30 for passing cables or plugs.
  • a concentric rotating ring gear 31 is used to adjust and fix the boom arms.
  • the openings are sealed with a closure member 32, the bayonet 33 engages the associated teeth 34 and cable clamps 35 for strain relief, a cable entry 36 and a central thread 37 for the boom attachment, and at the edge of a labyrinth seal 38 which has a cylinder wall 39 engages around the lid opening.
  • a seal can be inserted.
  • the front elements have large openings 27 for receiving LED inserts. These are used from outside and fastened, like Fig. 3a shows.
  • the upper and lower end portions 15 and 16 also have surrounding outer surfaces 17 'to form a closed outer contour, as well as for cladding there also Schnapplaschen 24th
  • the edges of the outer surfaces of the body 7a, 7 'and front 17a and 17' form a plane.
  • the screw holes of the front 23a and screw domes 28 end there. This makes it possible on the one hand, the front 20 alone to screw on a flat mounting surface from the rear, on the other hand, a flat plate can be clamped between the front and body, or the front are screwed onto a mounting surface from the rear.
  • Fig. 3a shows a section through the assembled switch housing Fig. 2 with built-in LED insert.
  • Front 20 and body 10 are on the outer surfaces 7a and 17a, and 7 'and 17' to each other.
  • Schnapplaschen 24 which grip over the front hooks 25, and the inner labyrinth seal with relatively large overlap of web 8 and groove 18.
  • the insert 41 is depressed by means of a retaining ring 42 with a U-shaped cross section on a bearing surface 43, which also has a groove 44 for receiving an optional sealing ring.
  • Fig. 3b shows a section through the provided with a shield 40 and screwed housing Fig. 2 with built-in LED insert.
  • This shield 40 improves the so-called contrast aperture the detectability of the signal against the sun. By pinching between body 10 and front 20 disturbing light gaps are avoided around the signal generator. Because the material thickness can vary greatly depending on the size of the sign, the body, shield and front are screwed directly together, even to defy high wind forces can, the snap-action latches 24 remain functionless.
  • the screws 49 are with their domes 28 outside of the labyrinth seal, but the domes are integrated into the labyrinth and used to obtain a stable support against shear and torsional forces.
  • the labyrinth 8/18 is less engaged by the wall thickness of the shield 40, but remains in the sealing effect.
  • the shield 40 can also be seen as any planar mounting surface to which the front 20 is screwed from the back with or without body 10. This is also a so-called panel mounting the fronts given.
  • the LED light can be integrated directly into the front element 11, because this savings on components are possible.
  • a simple exchange must be done.
  • the front elements 11 are then only plugged together, they reach like a roof shingle and can be snapped off from the top starting from the top until the defective part is reached. After replacing the overlying front elements are on the Carcass engaged. The body remains here along with wiring and internals mounted, an expansion is not necessary.
  • fixtures and covers with adjustable degree of sealing as well as the selective use of connecting means such as pressing, mating, gluing, screws or snap connections
  • connecting means such as pressing, mating, gluing, screws or snap connections
  • the front can be opened in total, the front elements individually removable and snap back, or the housing is not open at all. It can of course be used for any other applications.
  • applications with electronic components but also distributors of variable size, wet room and socket systems, container systems and the like.
