Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a furniture module which can be used to form a furnishing component.
  • joining elements of various types are used.
  • plates such as that illustrated in the Japanese patent JP2004-332766 are used.
  • the plate in question has at its ends holes which are passed through by screws which screw into the threaded holes of two or more panels, which are thus fixed alongside each other.
  • a plate of this type is easy to use, on the other hand it allows only the simple joining together of parts in a coplanar position.
  • more complex joints for example simultaneous joining together of several components arranged alongside each other both vertically and horizontally, it is required to provide holes laterally in the said components in order to join them using through-screws.
  • the main object of the invention is to provide a module for forming furniture in a simple and practical manner.
  • a furniture module comprising at least two assemblable components which can be assembled together (for example components in the form of a "C", dihedrons, with a box-like or drawer-like shape) so as to provide a finished module (for example a parallelepiped compartment with a front opening, a part of a shelving, etc.), characterized in that it comprises a joining/fixing piece for a further furniture component, which is mounted gripped between the at least two assemblable components.
  • the joining piece may be used to fix the assemblable component, not only to another type of furniture component, but also to another module according to the invention, which is preferably the same as the first one.
  • the joining piece will simultaneously be mounted gripped between the two assemblable components of one module and also between those of the other module. The result is to produce a set of two adjacent modules which are fixed together.
  • the joining piece may be a plate with at least two through-holes, said plate being arranged between two pairs of assemblable components (arranged alongside each other or on top of each other) so as to have one side in contact with one pair of assemblable components and the other side (opposite side) in contact with the other pair.
  • Each assemblable component may have at least one hole coaxial with one of the at least two holes in the plate.
  • At least two fastening means such as pins and/or tie-bolts, are inserted stably inside the holes of the assemblable components and pass through the holes in the plate.
  • One end of a fastening means is rigidly inserted inside the hole of one component of a pair, while the opposite end of the same fastening means is inserted rigidly inside the hole in a component of the other pair.
  • the fastening means passes through a hole in the plate which is arranged between the two components. The same configuration is obtained for the other two components of the two pairs, with the arrangement of the said plate in between.
  • one joining piece comprises fastening means which extend from both its opposite sides, thus reducing the number of components of the module.
  • a plate may comprise pegs or pins which stably engage inside the holes of the four assemblable components.
  • a joining piece for example a plate, may comprise on each of its two ends a flange (a H-shaped connecting piece).
  • the two flanges keep joined together the two pairs of assemblable components which are inserted in the two spaces between the flanges of the H-shaped joining piece, both in the vertical direction and in the horizontal direction.
  • fixing means for fixing the assemblable components in position or fixing may be performing by a further joining part provided elsewhere, for example a shoulder or dividing wall screwed between the two assemblable components.
  • the object is also achieved by a method for joining together separate components in order to provide an overall furniture unit, characterized by:
  • the joining piece allows the joining together of four or more assemblable components arranged alongside each other both vertically and horizontally.
  • the method envisages arranging fastening means on the joining piece so as to give it also a fixing function.
  • the fastening means may be self-tapping tie-bolts which are screwed into holes present in the assemblable components or may be pins which are inserted stably, being fixed by means of friction or expansion.
  • bushes may be inserted inside the said holes and the tie-bolts screwed inside them, in order to provide a more stable connection.
  • cams may further lock the tie-bolts to one or more of the assemblable components, fastening the head of the said tie-bolts inside a seat of the cams.
  • each assemblable component may be joined to two further assemblable components.
  • the furniture unit formed by the module according to the invention may comprise two, four or more assemblable components.
  • a furniture module comprises:
  • the four components 24, 26, 124, 126 have, considered in pairs of two, the same form and dimensions. For the sake of convenience, only one will be described.
  • the component 24 comprises two vertical side shoulders 44, 48 which are joined at the top by a horizontal cross-piece 40.
  • the upper side of the cross-piece 40 has eight holes 28, 28 with axes perpendicular to the said side; four of these holes 28 have axes lying in the same plane (forming a row) and are adjacent to an edge 11 of the base surface, while the other four holes also have axes which are coplanar and adjacent to the edge 13 opposite to the edge 11.
  • the shoulder 44 has on the side directed downwards four holes 36 coaxial with the four holes 28 adjacent to the edge 13.
  • the shoulder 48 has on the side directed downwards four holes 36 coaxial with the four holes 28 adjacent to the edge 11.
  • One side surface of the shoulder 44 specifically the surface directed towards the other shoulder 48, has two holes 38 with axes perpendicular to the axes of the holes 28.
  • the two holes 38 have an axis which is coplanar with the axis of the outer holes 28 and communicate with them.
  • the inner side surface of the shoulder 48 also has holes 38.
  • the module is formed by arranging alongside the component 24 a similar component 26 so that the outer side of a shoulder of one component bears against the outer side of a shoulder of the other shelving.
  • Two further components 124, 126 arranged alongside each other in a similar manner, are positioned above the two components 24, 26 so that the holes 36 of the components 124, 126 are coaxial with the holes 28 of the two components 24, 26 as can be seen in Figure 2 .
  • a plate 10 with through-holes 18, shown in Figures 3 and 4 is positioned between and gripped by the bottom side of the shoulders of the components 124, 126 and the upper side of the components 24, 26.
  • the holes 18 are arranged in two rows and have an interaxial distance which is equal to that of the holes 28; the holes 18 are coaxial both with the holes 36 of the upper components 124, 126 and with the holes 28 of the components 24, 26.
  • the outer holes 28 each receive one end of a tie-bolt 30 passing through a hole 18 in the plate 10.
  • the opposite end of each tie-rod 30 is inserted inside the outer holes 36 present in the bottom side of the shoulders.
  • the two central holes 28 each receive one end of a pin 32 which also passes through a hole 18 in the plate 10.
  • the opposite end of each pin 32 is inserted inside the central holes 36 present in the bottom side of the shoulders.
  • the holes 18 in the plate 10 are therefore passed through both by the tie-bolts 30 and by the pins 32 which are stably fixed in the holes of all four shelves. In this way the four components are rigidly joined together.
  • the module is completed by two plates 12 which have holes 20 arranged in a single row and having an interaxial distance the same as that of the holes 18 in the plate 10.
  • the plates 12 are arranged between the bottom side of the bottom component 24 and the outer shoulders, namely the shoulders which do not make contact with similar shoulders of adjacent components, as can be seen from Figure 1 .
  • the method according to the invention envisages firstly that the two components 24, 26 are arranged alongside each other.
  • tie-bolts 30 are screwed into the outer holes 28 (closer to the side surfaces perpendicular to the surfaces making contact), while pins 32 are received inside the inner holes.
  • the outer holes may accommodate bushes (not shown in the figures) which ensure tighter fixing of the tie-bolts 30 to the base surfaces 14, 16.
  • the method according to the invention may envisage that the plate 10 with the through-holes 18 is positioned on the continuous and adjacent side edges of the upper sides of the components 24, 26, said through-holes 18 being passed through by the tie-bolts 30 and by the pins 32 both of the surface 14 and of the surface 16, as can be seen from Figures 1 , 2 .
  • a plate 12 (which can be seen in Figures 5, 6 ) with through-holes 20 and a thickness the same as that of the plate 10 may be positioned on each of the outer side edges opposite to those on which the plate 10 rests, so as to correct the thickness and ensure levelling (this effect may be obtained if necessary by designing the two shoulders 44, 48 differently, in order to compensate for the thickness of the joining piece).
  • the through-holes 20 are also passed through by the tie-bolts 30 and by the pins 32.
  • a component 124, 126 is then arranged on top of each component 24, 26 so that the bottom sides of the shoulders of the components 124, 126 make contact with the plate 10 and with the small plates 12.
  • the holes 36 in the shoulders thus receive the top ends of the tie-bolts 30 and the pins 32.
  • cams 34 are inserted inside the holes 38 present in the shoulders of the components 24, 26, said cams engaging with the head of the tie-bolts 30 and locking together the two pairs of components.
  • the joint between furnishing components arranged on top of each other is obtained by means of co-operation between the tie-bolts 30 and cams 34, while the plate 10 ensures joining together of structures alongside each other.
  • a base surface 14, 16 may be positioned at the base of each component arranged underneath, being fixed in a similar manner to the system described above for fixing two components arranged on top of each other.
  • the side joint is obtained by arranging between components arranged on top of each other plates which are the same as the plate 10.
  • a plate comprises on its two sides fastening means such as dowels or pegs which, in a manner similar to the tie-bolts or pins, are rigidly inserted inside the holes of the shelving.
  • a plate comprises on each of its ends a flange which extends perpendicularly to the plate in both the directions (in the form of an "H").
  • the two contact shoulders of the two adjacent shelves are fixed between the two flanges of the plate, ensuring joining together of the two shelves in a direction.
  • joining together of the shelves is obtained by means of another joining piece.
  • the four components 24, 26, 124, 126 described may also have a different form provided that they can be assembled together to form a generic finished furniture unit.
