Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for printing with an ink printer according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Ink printers are inexpensive to manufacture, especially in the case of serial printers, and flexible in the design of the printed image. They exert no pressure on the printed matter and the print head does not come into direct contact with the surface to be labeled. Thus, they are in principle suitable for printing on a wide range of print material, including sensitive materials and surfaces.
  • ink printers are mainly used for printing on absorbent print material with water or oil based ink, such as paper, cardboard, wood and similar materials.
  • the ink droplets ejected from the nozzles of the print head reach the print material surface at a speed of several meters per second.
  • At the moment of impact of the drops on the print material deform the streamlined drops and form a lenticular shape.
  • a small portion of the drop volume atomises to small secondary drops, which precipitate randomly on the surface of the print material after a reflected flight motion in the vicinity of the impact point of the main drop.
  • the absorbency of the print material is improved by capillary structures. They ensure that all drops on the surface quickly sink into the depth of the material. As a result, bleeding of the ink droplets in their edge regions is avoided. Therefore, the drops resting on the surface of the print form sharp-edged pixels. By juxtaposing the main drops, the printed image pattern with slight shades in the environment arises from the precipitate of the ink mist.
  • the disadvantage is that with the water or oil-based inks non-absorbent materials can be printed with capillary structures only with low sharpness, because the ink can not penetrate into the material and runs in the capillaries. To solve this problem, it is well known to use solvent-based inks. The solvent achieves two effects.
  • Light-curing ink-operable ink printers have an exposure head for irradiating and exposing the photocuring ink. It is traversed during printing with the print head traversing between two housing sides of the ink printer and irradiates the sprayed via nozzles of the print head on the print material ink.
  • the emitted light is selected in its wavelength so that the photoinitiator is excited and the ink is at least partially polymerized.
  • the polymerization leads to an increase in viscosity and solidification of the ink. The degree of solidification depends on the duration of the irradiation and on the radiation power of the illumination head.
  • the difficulty with this method is that very high radiant energy is required in a very short time to cure the ink sprayed on the print material.

  • This provides the advantage that the printed image of the sprayed ink is smudge and scratch resistant.
  • the invention has the advantage that the light-curing ink is cured with low radiation powers of the exposure head. Low radiant powers are sufficient in the method of the present invention because the photocurable ink is first irradiated on the path of the exposure head to the first housing side and then again on the way to the second housing side, the printhead on the way to the second housing page stores and retains all ink. Thus, no light-curing ink is sprayed out of the print head in this way. After reaching an end position of the exposure head in the region of the second housing side, the print material is then transported transversely to the direction of movement of the print head.

Due to the different speeds of the exposure head and the correspondingly different irradiation periods, the radiation energy can be split and reduced functionally.
  • the required radiation energy of the exposure head can be reduced in that the exposure head in the on state on the way to the first Housing side is moved faster than on its way to the second housing side.
