Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a sealing element for a flat conductor.
  • Gaskets for flat conductors are known in principle.
  • a known flat conductor gasket is formed by overmolding a lead with a sprayable sealing material such as, e.g. Liquid silicone, made.
  • the sealing material must have a sufficiently high temperature during Umspritzvorgangs so that the necessary for spraying liquid consistency of the sealing material is ensured.
  • the sealing material can damage the flat conductor by its high temperature during encapsulation.
  • an insulating material of the flat conductor the melting point of which is below the temperatures occurring during the encapsulation process, can be melted during the encapsulation process, whereby its insulating effect can be impaired.
  • the EP-A-1 030 425 discloses a sealing member made of an elastic material defining an axial passage of round cross-section for receiving a cable. At an opening of the passage, a self-closing sealing portion is arranged in the form of a slotted disc, which prevents moisture and debris from entering the passageway.
  • a sealing element with a slot-like passage which has a predetermined clear width and which can be narrowed by pressure on the outer surfaces of the sealing element such that a conductor element extending therethrough is sealingly encompassed.
  • the US 2004/0099628 A1 teaches a sealing element having a slot extending through the sealing element, the slot being defined by an elastically deformable material such that surfaces of the elastically deformable material bounding the slot normally abut one another to close the slot.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a more effective and producible with less economic effort seal for at least one flat conductor.
  • the sealing element according to the invention has at least one slot extending through the sealing element for receiving a flat conductor.
  • a corresponding number of slots may be provided, wherein each slot to be recorded is assigned a slot in each case.
  • the or each slot is defined by an elastically deformable material such that the slot delimiting surfaces of the elastic deformable material abut each other when not included flat conductor. When not included flat conductor of the slot is therefore closed in other words.
  • the sealing element reliably fulfills its sealing effect even if no flat conductor is accommodated in the slot.
  • the sealing element according to the invention can be produced with a particularly low economic outlay, since it is only necessary; make a sealing element blank and provide it with one or more slots, e.g. by piercing or cutting with the help of a cutting blade-like tool.
  • the surfaces of the elastically deformable material delimiting the slot abut one another at least approximately over the whole area when the flat conductor is not picked up. In this way it is achieved that the surfaces delimiting the slot conform over a maximum area to a flat conductor received in the slot or exert pressure on the flat conductor, whereby the sealing effect of the sealing element is increased even further.
  • the elastically deformable material comprises an elastomeric material, such as rubber or silicone, since elastomeric materials have very favorable properties, in particular with regard to elasticity, sealing effect, resistance and processing.
  • the sealing element is completely and in particular integrally formed from the elastically deformable material.
  • This allows a particularly simple and flexible production of the sealing element since only one material must be processed and known methods such as casting techniques, in particular injection molding techniques, can be used to form a sealing element blank.
  • the sealing element blank can first be made non-slit and later provided at suitable, freely selectable locations with the or the necessary for the particular application of the sealing element slot or slots, for example by piercing the sealing element blank.
  • the sealing element may better conform to the received or the flat leads, if it is formed entirely from the elastically deformable material.
  • the elastically deformable material encloses at least one slot in a plane transverse to the longitudinal extension of a recorded flat conductor without interruption.
  • the sealing element thus forms a the enclosed flat conductor surrounding, closed jacket. Interference effects such as moisture or dirt can consequently penetrate into the sealing element neither laterally with respect to the flat conductor nor when the sealing element is not equipped. As a result, the sealing effect of the sealing element is further increased.
  • At least one slot extends in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of a received flat conductor up to an outer edge of the sealing element. This simplifies the insertion of a flat conductor in the sealing element. Instead of having to guide the flat conductor in the longitudinal direction through the slot, it is possible to insert the flat conductor transversely to the longitudinal direction in the sealing element. As a result, the attachment of the sealing element on the flat conductor is further simplified.
  • a clamping element can be provided, which serves to hold together in the region of an outer edge of the sealing element by the slot separate regions of the elastically deformable material.
  • the outer contour of the sealing element at least partially an oversize relative to the inner contour of a housing provided for receiving the sealing element, such as a connector or terminal housing on.
  • the sealing element ensures a reliable seal not only between the received flat conductor and the sealing element, but also between the sealing element and the housing.
  • the latter is achieved in particular by deforming the sealing element introduced into the housing in the region of excess of the housing. This causes in the sealing element an elastic counterforce, which causes the outer surface of the sealing element in the region of the excess to the inner wall of the housing applies and exerts a contact pressure on the inner wall, whereby the interface between the sealing element and the housing inner wall is sealed.
  • the deformation of the sealing element can cause an increase of the contact pressure of the elastically deformable material on the received in the slot flat conductor, so that by the oversize as well the sealing effect at the interface between the flat conductor and the sealing element is improved.
  • the sealing element has two or more, spaced apart in the longitudinal direction of a recorded flat conductor, outwardly projecting sealing portions.
  • sealing portions can cause a redundant seal and thus improve the sealing effect of the sealing element as a whole.
  • a, in particular rib-like, projection is provided, which extends transversely to the longitudinal extension of a recorded flat conductor and, in particular interruption-free, peripherally protrudes outwards.
  • a projection is particularly suitable for providing a reliable seal between the sealing element and the inner wall of a housing receiving the sealing element.
  • the projection presses at any point of the sealing element circumference substantially perpendicularly outwardly against the inner wall of the housing and thus ensures an interruption-free sealing action of the sealing element relative to the inner wall of the housing.
  • a rib-like projection when inserting the sealing element into the housing has a reduced resistance, because it can be seen against the insertion slightly deformed, whereby the insertion of the sealing element is facilitated in the housing.
  • a further, in particular ramp-like, projection is provided, which is above and / or below a recorded Flat conductor protrudes to the outside.
  • the deformation experienced by the sealing element due to such a projection when inserted into the housing has the consequence that the sealing element is pressed from above and / or below against the flat conductor.
  • the surfaces of the elastically deformable material delimiting the slot exert an increased contact pressure on the flat conductor, and the flat conductor is sealed off more effectively with respect to the sealing element.
  • Another object of the invention is also a method for mounting a sealing element according to the invention on a flat conductor with the features of claim 13.
  • Fig. 1 to Fig. 9 show the construction and the use of a sealing element 10 according to the invention according to a first embodiment.
  • the sealing element 10 is formed in one piece from an elastically deformable material, for example an elastomer material, and has two slots 12, a sealing rib 14, a ramp-shaped projection 16 and a guide nose 18 (FIG. Fig. 1 to 3 ).
  • the slots 12 extend in mutually parallel planes, each defined by a first direction and a second direction perpendicular thereto.
  • the slots 12 In the first direction, the slots 12 extend through the entire sealing element 10, while in the second direction they do not extend to the outer edge of the sealing element 10.
  • the first direction is referred to as the longitudinal direction and the second direction as the transverse direction.
  • the slots 12 are spaced apart in the direction perpendicular to the slot planes.
  • the sealing rib 14 extends in a longitudinally central region of the sealing element 10 transversely to the longitudinal direction circumferentially over the entire circumference of the sealing element 10 and protrudes outwards.
  • the ramp-shaped projection 16 is located in a rear end region of the sealing element 10 which is viewed in the longitudinal direction and likewise projects peripherally outward over the entire circumference of the sealing element 10.
  • the sealing element 10 also has a guide lug 18, which is located in a longitudinally viewed in the longitudinal direction end portion of the sealing element 10 and consists of a circumferentially over the entire circumference of the sealing element 10 circumferentially protruding bead.
  • the illustrated flat conductor 20 is a flexible printed circuit (FPC). In principle, the flat conductor 20 but also a flexible flat cable (FFC). On the wires of the flat conductor 20 contact elements 22 are mounted in a conventional manner.
  • FPC flexible printed circuit
  • FFC flexible flat cable
  • the insertion aid 24 is configured in the form of a flat shoe. It has a hollow chamber 26, the cross section of which is adapted to the cross section of the arrangement of the juxtaposed contact elements 22.
  • the hollow chamber 26 is bounded above and below and laterally by walls 28. At a front side, the hollow chamber 26 is bounded by a wedge-shaped extension 30. At its rear side, the hollow chamber 26 is open to receive the contact elements 22.
  • the lower wall of the insertion aid 24 extends beyond the back of the hollow chamber 26 and forms a guide 32 for the flat conductor 20th
  • the flat conductor 20 is inserted with its contact elements 22 at the open back of the insertion aid 24 in the hollow chamber 26, as in Fig. 4 is shown.
  • the contact elements 22 are already connected to the individual flat conductor wires in the present embodiment. In principle, however, the contact elements 22 can also be attached to the flat conductor 20 only after the sealing element 10 has been mounted thereon.
  • the insertion aid 24, together with the inserted flat conductor 20 with its wedge-shaped extension 30, is introduced into the slot 12 ahead of the rear side 33 of the sealing element 10.
  • the slot 12 is widened by the wedge-shaped extension 30.
  • the insertion aid 24 and the flat conductor 20 are pushed so far through the slot 12 therethrough until the insertion aid 24 at the front of the sealing element 10 has completely leaked out of the slot 12. If the insertion aid 24 has completely left the slot 12, then only the flat conductor 20 extends through the slot 12 and the surfaces of the sealing element 10 delimiting the slot 12 lie against the flat conductor surface. The insertion aid 24 can now be removed from the lead 20 and, e.g. be used to guide a second lead 20 through the second slot 12.
  • the sealing element 10 mounted in this way on two flat conductors 20 can then be used together with the accommodated flat conductors 20 in a connector housing 34, as in FIGS. 7 to 9 is shown.
  • the housing 34 has a receiving socket 36 for receiving the sealing element 10 and receiving chambers 38 for receiving the contact elements 22 attached to the flat conductor wires.
  • a cap 40 is formed so that it can be placed on the receiving socket 36.
  • the locking cap 40 comprises two locking elements 42. By locking the locking elements 42 with corresponding provided on the receiving socket 36 locking projections 44, the cap 40 can be firmly connected to the housing 34.
  • closure cap 40 comprises an opening 46 for the passage of the flat conductors 20 and a running around the opening 46 and projecting in the longitudinal direction support collar 48 which supports the performed flat conductor 20.
  • the contact elements 22 attached to the flat conductors 20 are fixed in the receiving chambers 38 of the housing 34, thereby establishing a firm connection between the flat conductors 20 and the housing 34 becomes.
  • the sealing element 10 is inserted into the receiving socket 36 of the housing 34 by being pushed along the flat conductors 20 into the receiving socket 36 into it.
  • the sealing element 10 is introduced with the guide lug 18 ahead in the receiving socket 36, wherein the guide nose 18, the sealing element 10 is centered and thus facilitates insertion.
  • the sealing rib 14 equipped with an oversize opposite the receiving socket 36 seals against the inner wall 50 of the receiving socket 36 in order to create a seal between the sealing element 10 and the housing 34 (FIG. Fig. 8 ).
  • the ramp-shaped projection 16 is provided above and below the slots 12 with an oversize relative to the housing 34, so that when the sealing element 10 is inserted into the housing 34, it comes to bear against the inner wall 50 and presses from above and below in the direction of the slots 12 , As a result, the slots 12 limiting surfaces of the sealing element 10 are additionally pressed against the flat conductor 20, whereby an increased sealing effect between the flat conductors 20 and the sealing element 10 is achieved.
