Definitions
- an operator-executable sniffer probe having a handle and a display for displaying leak rate information
- a base unit having a suction device and a gas detector connected thereto, wherein the sniffer probe via a hose and an information line is connected to the base unit.
- Schnuffle leak detectors which have a hand-held sniffer probe, which is connected to a suction device and a gas detector.
- the test object is filled with a test gas and leakage of test gas is sucked by the sniffer probe and detected by the gas detector.
- the sniffer probe is guided along the test object in the vicinity of various leak-critical points and held there for a suitable measuring time.
- the quality or tightness of the individual test object can be determined from the leak rate of the measuring point with the highest leak rate and / or from the sum of the leak rate of the measuring points.
- the operator manually holds the sniffer probe at a single measuring point, while ensuring that the sniffer probe is kept as quiet as possible.
- a trigger value is used, when exceeded, a leak message is triggered.
- a sniffer probe For leak localization, a sniffer probe must be used at the same time
- the invention has for its object to provide a sniffer leak detector, which is user-friendly and allows the user to pay more attention to the test object and the leadership of the sniffer probe.
- the sniffer leak detector of the present invention is defined by claim 1. It has, in addition to the display, a tactile display device and / or an acoustic display device for detecting a gas and / or for leak rate information.
- the operator can read the result of the sniff leak detection on the display belonging to the sniffer probe, but on the other hand, he does not need to pay full attention to the display, because also detecting a gas and / or leak rate information via a tactile (tactile) display device or acoustic display device are supplied. In this way, the information from the device both readable in the field of view of the user and non-visually transmitted. This information must not be associated with an error condition, e.g. the state "no indication" be confused.
- the contradiction between accurate visual location detection and simultaneous recording of the trigger or detection information or the leak rate information is solved.
- the user Upon the occurrence of a corresponding signal that is generated optically and acoustically, the user is allowed to first detect the mere presence of a leak and then find the leak site by moving the sniffer probe toward an extreme level of the strength signal.
- the signals and controls are combined to provide operator detection under various environmental conditions, such as darkness, brightness, ambient noise, and to provide an appropriate response through controls directly to the sniffer probe.
- the display can be switched to a search mode in which, when a predetermined leak rate is exceeded, a color change takes place in the display and a tactile display device is activated.
- the display can be switched to a localization mode, in which a leak rate information is displayed with a bar of variable length and a tone is generated with a parameter dependent on the leak rate information.
- a localization mode in which a leak rate information is displayed with a bar of variable length and a tone is generated with a parameter dependent on the leak rate information.
- a proportion display is provided, which is controlled such that it indicates the value of 100% for leak rate information that corresponds to the maximum value that occurred during a measurement process.
- the maximum value is determined and stored, which is achieved during scanning of the test object with the sniffer probe. Thereafter, for each other measuring point, the percentage of the leak rate measured there, based on 100%, can be determined. In this way, the extent of a leak or the extent of the emission of a leak can be checked.
- the proportion display may be, for example, a bar graph or a variable pitch acoustic display.
- FIG. 1 shows a schematic overall view of the sniffer leak detector
- Figure 2 is an enlarged view of the sniffer probe with the display.
- the sniffer leak detector has a base unit 10 with a box-shaped housing 11 which can be placed in the vicinity of the measuring location.
- the basic unit 10 is connected via a hose 12 to the sniffer probe 13.
- the sniffer probe is a hand-guided device having a handle 14, a control panel 15 and a protruding pin-shaped slim sniffer lance 16.
- the sniffer lance 16 has a length which is at least twenty times its outer diameter so that it can also be inserted into narrow gaps and holes. At the free end of the sniffer lance 16 is the suction port, is sucked through the gas.
- the control unit 15 has a display 17 and two buttons 18,19.
- the display 17 is arranged on a desk-like structure 20 so that it can be easily read by the user holding the handle 14 in his hand.
- the sniffer lance 16 is disposed obliquely at an angle to the surface of the display 17. It is also arranged obliquely to the longitudinal axis of the handle 14 so that it projects obliquely from the control panel 15 in the manner of a beak.
- a tactile display device 22 in the form of a vibrator, which can be activated to generate on the handle 14 a physically noticeable vibration, through which the user receives information.
- the hose line 12 contains a (not shown) information line through which a microprocessor included in the base unit 10 communicates with the electronics contained in the control unit 15.
- the base unit 10 has on the box-shaped housing 11 a desk-like structure 25, which carries a further display 26.
- a further display 26 In addition to the display 26 are two rows of keys 27,28 through which a menu control can be made and an input can be performed.
- the basic apparatus 10 includes a suction pump, a gas detector and an electronic control device.
- the gas detector may be a mass spectrometer capable of detecting different types of gases.
- the use of an infrared detector or other gas detector is possible.
- a vacuum pump is required as the suction pump.
- the microcomputer which receives the signals from the gas detector and controls the displays 17 and 26, provides to the displays a leak rate signal as well as other signals needed for the display.
- a removable test leak device 30 On the base unit 10 is a removable test leak device 30 having an insertion opening 31 for the sniffer lance 16.
- the test leak is supplied with a defined leak rate of a specific gas. In this way a calibration of the sniffer leak detector is possible.
- an acoustic display device 33 in the form of a power generator or loudspeaker is provided on the housing 11.
- the control is such that the pitch of the acoustic signal varies according to the leak rate information.
- a bar graph 40 can be displayed, wherein the bar 41 indicates a percentage of the size of the leak rate information.
- the leak rate 43 is given as a numerical value. 43 indicates the type of gas, here: R134a, which is also displayed.
- the button 18 on the control panel 15 is a menu button for display on the display 17.
- the button 19 is a zero button, with which the signal background of the measurement signal can be set to zero.
- a lighting device 45 which emits light along the sniffer lance 16 to illuminate the sniffer tip or its surroundings. This lighting can also be used to generate flashing signals. The operator can therefore concentrate his visual attention on the environment of the sniffer tip.
- the sniffer leak detector can be switched to a search mode. In this case, when a predetermined leak rate is exceeded, a color change occurs in the display 17, e.g. from green to red. A corresponding color change can also be generated in the further display 26. The color change indicates to the operator that a leak has been detected, but does not contain information about the size of the leak. In addition, upon detection of a leak, activation of the tactile display device 22 and the acoustic display device 33 occurs.
- the device is switched to the localization mode.
- the display shown in FIG. 2 is generated on the display 17.
- the bar graph 40 forms a proportion display which is controlled to indicate the value of 100% for leak rate information corresponding to the maximum value occurred in a measurement operation.
- the test gas used in this case is the gas R134a.
- the maximum value is detected and stored by a peak detector. It forms a reference value in the further measurements. This reference value also determines the value 100% of the bar chart 40.
- Another share display can be provided which indicates the percentage in numerical form.
- An audible gauge displays a certain high frequency as 100%, while the lower leak rates are displayed as lower tones.
- the device ensures that there is no error condition that produces a "normal" indication. Each fault condition is generated simultaneously across the various display devices
- a fault indication can also be made on the display via numbers, symbols or texts.
- the user can use the two buttons 18,19 without direct visual contact to the sniffer tip with the support of the acoustic signals
