Definitions

  • the invention relates to a double-stranded exhaust system, with a first tube and a second tube, each of which can conduct an exhaust gas flow, wherein the two tubes are interconnected by a strut.
  • the strut has two functions. On the one hand, it serves to position the two tubes relative to one another. For this purpose, the length of the strut and thus the distance between the two tubes is adjustable from each other. Proper adjustment of the strut ensures that, for example, the two tailpipes of the exhaust system or other components (e.g., mufflers) when installed in the vehicle are located at the design or design point. On the other hand, the strut serves to stabilize the two pipes of the exhaust system with each other. The stabilizing effect is important both during assembly and later in operation when the tubes of the exhaust system are excited to vibrate.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a double-stranded exhaust system in which the arranged between two tubes strut is both easy to assemble and has a high fatigue strength.
  • the invention provides that the strut consists of a first and a second part, wherein each part is at least at the end of the tube associated with two layers executed and the opposite
  • the Strut only consists of very few components, namely the first and the second part and a connecting element, such as a screw with nut, which connects the two connecting portions of the parts of the strut together.

  • it is suitable for this purpose to carry out the end of each part of the strut assigned to the tube as two spaced-apart tabs which are welded or soldered to the tube. In this way, a very strong connection between the parts of the strut and the pipes of the exhaust system results.

  • Each part of the strut then consists of two sheet metal parts, which are simply punched out and connected to each other, for example by welding points, soldering or flanging.
  • Connecting portion has a U-shaped cross-section and the other connecting portion made flat and is received between the legs of a connecting portion. In this way, there is an improved stability of the strut.
  • each connecting portion has a slot through which a screw extends, to which a nut is applied.

In this way, the end portions of the tabs 22, 24 are approximately tangent to the outer surface of the corresponding tube 12, 14 at. There, the end portions with the tubes 12, 14 are welded. This is indicated here by welds 26 in the form of a fillet weld in each case.

  • the two connecting portions 28, 30 each have a slot 34 through which a screw 36 extends, to which a nut 38 is screwed. This makes it possible to adjust the total length of the strut 10 and thus the spacing of the tubes 12, 14 from one another in the desired manner.
  • the strut in the region of the connecting portions 28, 30 is rotated by 90 ° with respect to the orientation that have the portions of the strut just before the transition into the tabs 22, 24.
  • the plane in which the connecting portions 28, 30 extend (here parallel to the plane of the drawing) is rotated by about 90 ° with respect to the plane in which the strut just before the transition (indicated by the arrow P) in the tabs 22, 24 extends; this plane is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing and contains the longitudinal axis of the strut.
  • the strut 10 can yield in the area on both sides of the connecting sections 28, 30, since the bending resistance against such a load is comparatively low there. In this case too, therefore, no great loads act on the connection between the tabs 22, 24 and the tubes 12, 14.
  • the strut can also be twisted by angles other than 90 °, for example by 45 °. Alone it is crucial that the rotation is obtained a reduced rigidity against the loads that occur during operation.
  • the strut can also be mounted so that the tabs are not tangent to the tubes 12, 14, but the plane of the tabs is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tubes.
  • the tubes would therefore run in the illustration of Figure 2 in the vertical direction. This also serves to adjust the stiffness of the strut to the loads acting during operation.
