- the apparatus is an ironing apparatus.
- FIG. 1 represents an ironing apparatus comprising a steam generator comprising a spray tank 1 equipped with a heating element 2 and supplied with water from a tank 3 by a pump, not shown in the figures.
- the tank 1 is connected classically to an iron 4 by a pipe 5 provided with a solenoid valve 6 and has a drain hole 7 normally closed by a screwed cap 8.
- the appliance is equipped with a drain indicator 9.
- This drain indicator may be constituted by a warning light 9, or an audible alarm, which is activated preferably after a predetermined number of cycles of operation of the pump or when the accumulated operating time of the apparatus has reached a given threshold.
- this drain indicator 9 When this drain indicator 9 is activated, the tank 1 must be cleaned by the user.
- This maintenance operation can be performed easily by placing the appliance at the edge of a sink, filling the water tank and draining it through the orifice 7 so that the water loaded with scale can run down the sink.
- a cleaning kit as described in the patent FR 2,835,041 filed by the plaintiff may advantageously be used to perform this maintenance operation.
- the emptying of the tank 1 is normally performed when the device is no longer powered, the power cord of the device being disconnected from the power grid.
- the apparatus is equipped with means for detecting the opening of the drain plug 8 making it possible, upon powering up the apparatus, to detect an opening of the drain plug 8 although this opening plug was performed when the unit was de-energized and / or disconnected from the power grid.
- drain detection means are associated with a control card, not shown in the figures, prohibiting the operation of the apparatus when, upon powering up the apparatus, an opening of the drain plug 8 does not was detected while the indicator light 9 of drain had been previously activated.
- the means for detecting the opening of the drain plug are constituted by a device comprising a housing 10 provided with an orifice 11 through which slides an activation finger 12 this activating finger 12 being held down by the drain plug 8 when the latter is screwed onto the orifice.
- the casing consists of upper and lower plastic shells 10A and 10B, assembled one on the other, the activation finger 12 being brought back by a spring 13 into a rest position in FIG. which it projects further outside the casing 10, the spring 13 resting at the bottom of a cavity of the upper shell 10A provided for this purpose.
- the activation finger 12 has a lateral extension 12A provided with a pin 12B engaging in a groove 14A disposed at the free end of an actuator arm 14 pivotally mounted on the housing 10 about an axis 14B.
- the actuator arm 14 is advantageously made of plastic and comprises a pusher 15 extending perpendicular to the body of the arm 14.
- the pusher 15 is supported on a contact blade 16, disposed under the body of the actuator arm 14, carried by a printed circuit board 17.
- the contact blade 16 has a free end 16A facing a contact pad 18 carried by the printed circuit 17, the body of the contact blade 16 providing an elastic return in the direction of the opening of the formed switch by the contact blade 16 and the pad 18.
- the return spring 13 of the activation finger 12 causes a thrust of the lateral extension 12A on the actuator arm 14 in the direction of the contact between the end 16A of the contact blade 16 with the pad 18.
- the return spring 13 of the activation finger 12 is dimensioned so that the contact is established by default under the sole pressure of the spring 13 when no effort is exerted by the cap 8 on the activation finger 12.
- the actuating arm 14 comprises, close to its axis of rotation 14B, a locking latch 19 extending perpendicular to the body of the actuator arm 14, towards the upper shell 10A, the end of the latch 19 comprising a head 20 cooperate with a stop 21 carried by a locking arm 22 hinged about an axis 22A disposed parallel to the axis of rotation 14B of the arm 14, but at the opposite end of the housing 10.
- the locking arm 22 is returned by a return spring 23 in a rest position, in which the locking arm 22 is remote from the printed circuit 17 so that the stop 21 is opposite the path swept by the head. 20 of the latch 19.
- the head 20 of the latch 19 has a rounded face 20A which comes into contact with an inclined face 21A of the abutment 21 when the actuator arm 14 pivots in the direction of the establishment of the contact between the contact blade 16 and the pad 18, so that, during this rotation of the actuator arm 14, the head passes above the stop 21 by causing a slight pivoting of the locking arm 22 against the return spring 23.
- the head 20 of the latch 19 has, opposite the rounded face 20A, a planar face 20B oriented substantially radially to the axis of 14B rotation of the actuator arm 14 and coming into contact with a flat face 21B of the stop 21 to oppose the rotation of the actuator arm 14 in the direction of its distance from the printed circuit 17, so that the stop 21 ensures the locking the actuator arm 14 in the contact position between the end 16A of the contact blade 16 and the stud 18.
- the locking arm 22 is preferably made of plastic and supports a ferromagnetic part 24 cooperating with an electromagnet 25 disposed under the locking arm 22 and carried by the printed circuit 17.
- This electromagnet 25 is connected in series with the formed switch by the contact blade 16 and the pad 18, by means of tracks carried by the printed circuit board 17, so as to form a detection circuit which is supplied with current when the device is turned on.
- the apparatus also comprises current measurement means integrated for example in an electronic card, not shown in Figures 1 to 7, for detecting the presence of a current pulse on the detection circuit thus produced.
- FIG. 4 illustrates the detection device in an initial position in which the apparatus is de-energized and the plug 8 is screwed onto the drain orifice 7.
- the plug 8 holds the activation finger 12 pressed down at against the spring 13 and the elastic return of the contact blade 16 ensures the opening of the contact between the blade 16 and the pad 18 and causes the pivoting of the actuator arm 14 to the upper shell 10A until the latter is pressed against the lateral extension 12A of the activation finger 12, the pin 12B is then inserted into the groove 14A.
- the rounded face 20A of the head 20 of the latch 19 is then in abutment against the inclined face 21A of the stop 21 of the locking arm 22, the latter being held in the rest position by its spring 23 of return.
- the locking arm 22 is returned to its initial position by its spring 23 and the flat face 21 B of the abutment 21 is in the path of the flat face 20B of the head 20 of the latch 19, thus preventing any reverse pivoting of the actuator arm 14.
- the actuator arm 14 is then locked in a position, illustrated in Figure 5, wherein the contact is kept closed between the contact blade 16 and the pad 18.
- the detection circuit When the user wishes to use the ironing appliance again, he connects the ironing appliance to the mains and turns on the appliance.
- the detection circuit is then energized and, the switch formed by the contact blade 16 and the stud 18 being closed, the electromagnet 25 is supplied with current so that it produces a magnetic field attracting the ferromagnetic element 24 carried by the locking arm 22.
- the current measuring means associated with the detection circuit, detect the presence of the current pulse generated by the supply of the electromagnet 25 and by deduce the opening of the plug 8 prior to switching on the device.
- the apparatus thus produced comprises a detection device enabling the device to be powered up to detect the prior opening of the cap for emptying the tank, although this operation was performed while the apparatus was switched off. .
- the detection device thus produced also works if the opening of the plug is performed with the device under tension.
- the operation of the device is thus prevented from the moment when the maintenance indicator is activated and as long as the opening of the drain plug has not been detected.
- the user is therefore forced to open the drain plug, and by the same to perform the emptying of the tank, before being able to reuse the device.
- the information relating to the opening of the drain plug can advantageously be used to automatically reset the activation module of the emptying indicator when the cap is open.
- FIGS. 8 and 9 illustrate a second embodiment of the invention in which the means for detecting the opening of the drain plug of the preceding figures are replaced by a detection device comprising a reed switch 30, also called ILS mounted in the apparatus near the drain hole 7 in a zone swept by a plug 31 comprising a magnet 32.
- the magnet 32 is eccentric on the plug 31 so that it is remote from the ILS 30 when the cap 31 is screwed to the bottom of the thread on the drain port 7, as is illustrated in Figure 8.
- the field generated by the magnet 32 is insufficient to cause the closing of the ILS 30 which remains in its initial open state.
- the ILS 30 closes under the effect of the magnetic field generated by the magnet 32 when the latter passes close to the ILS 30 and in particular during the unscrewing of the plug 31, as illustrated. in Figure 9.
- the ILS 30 is connected to an electronic card 33 which detects the change of state of the ILS 30 at the start of the apparatus, to deduce that the plug 31 has been unscrewed and the draining done, then feeds an electromagnet 34 which creates a magnetic field opening the contact of the ILS 30, that is to say bringing the ILS back to its initial position as illustrated in FIG. 8.
- Such a detection device has the advantage of great simplicity but has the disadvantage of a still high cost due to the use of a reed switch.
- FIGS. 10 and 11 illustrate another embodiment of the invention in which the means for detecting the opening of the drain plug of FIG. 1 are replaced by a detection device comprising a ferromagnetic core formed by a rod of actuation 40, movable in translation through an electromagnet 45.
- the rod 40 has a first end 40A coming in the immediate vicinity of the body of a drain plug 41 and a second end provided with a ferromagnetic disc 40B which is proximity of a first magnet 42 whose magnetic attraction ensures the maintenance of the rod 40 in a rest position, illustrated in Figures 10 and 11.
- the plug 41 comprises a threaded portion 41 A adapted to close the drain orifice 7 and comprises a body 41B having an oblong shape, eccentric with respect to the center of the threaded portion 41A, so that the periphery of the body 41B of the plug forms a cam moving the end 40A of the rod 40 to the electromagnet 45 during the rotation of the cap 41 on a half-turn for its opening.
- the rotation of the plug 41 for its opening is therefore accompanied by a displacement of the rod 40 to an active position, illustrated in FIG. which the end disc 40B of the rod 40 is in the vicinity of a second magnet 43 whose magnetic attraction ensures the maintenance of the safety rod 40 in the active position.
- the electromagnet 45 is connected to an electronic card 44 which supplies the electromagnet 45 with the start-up of the apparatus in order to generate a magnetic field bringing back, if necessary, the activation rod 40 into the rest position and monitors the current pulse generated by the consumption of the electromagnet 45 to deduce the initial position of the activation rod 40 at the start of the device.
- the electronic card can thus deduce if the plug 41 has been unscrewed or not to perform the emptying.
