Claims (15)

  1. Machine for splitting long pieces of wood of any shape and dimensions into firewood logs, the machine comprising a frame (20), cutters (40) mounted on the frame (20) and arranged substantially perpendicularly to the axis of the piece of wood which has to be split, a member guiding the said piece of wood and a thruster device (30) designed to push the long piece of wood substantially axially against the said cutters mounted on a circular drum (50) which can rotate about an axis substantially parallel to the axis of the guide member, this machine being characterised in that the cutters (40) are flat blades located in planes substantially parallel to the axis of the guide member (9), in that these blades are mounted as groups of blades, each group of blades comprising a set of blades diverging from a central point (41a, 41b, 41c, 41d) and in that these blades are of one piece with each other and the circular drum (50) in such a way as to divide up all the space within the said drum into separate splitting areas respectively corresponding to the said groups of blades and a particular number of firewood logs obtained when splitting with the group of blades used.
  2. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the said guide member (9) for the said piece of wood is provided with a supporting cradle (21) whose position can be adjusted.
  3. Machine according to claim 2, characterised in that the supporting cradle (21) and the rotating drum (50) bearing the said blades can be adjusted for height with respect to each other.
  4. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the said rotating drum (50) comprises an annular peripheral support (52) for the said blades bearing a rack (53) designed to engage a drive pinion (54) driven in rotation by an electric or hydraulic motor (55).
  5. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the said drum (50) rotates with respect to the frame (20) of the machine.
  6. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that some of the cutters (40a, 40b, 40c, 40d) are radial.
  7. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the said drum (50) delimits at least one area (S2) in which the piece of wood is split into two logs.
  8. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the said drum (50) delimits at least one area (S4) in which the piece of wood is split into four logs.
  9. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the said drum (50) delimits at least one area (S6) in which the piece of wood is split into six logs.
  10. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the said drum (50) delimits at least one area (S8) in which the piece of wood is split into eight logs.
  11. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the said drum (50) delimits at least one area (S16) in which the piece of wood (100) is split into sixteen logs (101).
  12. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the thruster device (30) comprises a thrust plate (31) which is of one piece with the end of a rod of a thrusting hydraulic jack (32).
  13. Machine according to claim 12, characterised in that the thrust plate (31) is made of two members which slide vertically with respect to each other.
  14. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the thruster device (30) comprises a first thrust plate (111) which is of one piece with a first thrusting hydraulic jack and a second thrust plate (114) of one piece with a second thrusting hydraulic jack, the first thrust plate (111) having openings (113) through which bars and/or rods (116) which are of one piece with the second thrust plate (114) can pass.
  15. Machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the said first thrust plate (111) and the second thrust plate (114) are arranged so as to move simultaneously so that the piece of wood which is to be split is pushed towards the cutters (40), and in that the said second thrust plate (114) is arranged to move alone with the said bars and/or rods (116) at the end of travel to push any jammed bits of wood out of the space between the cutters (40).
