Verlegung werden die Eisenbahnschwellen häufig mit Schwellentragzangen gehandhabt bzw. transportiert. Die Unterseite von Holz- oder Betonschwellen ist entweder genau so breit oder breiter wie die Oberseite, was ein einfaches Unterhaken mit einer Schwellentragzange ermöglicht. Allerdings bringt das den Nachteil mit sich, daß die Eisenbahnschwelle nicht eben auf dem Erdboden stehen kann, weil die Haken der Schwellentragzangen die Eisenbahnschwelle dann nicht untergreifen können. Wenn die Eisenbahnschwellen im Schotter liegen, müssen sie bis zur Unterseite vom Schotter freigeräumt werden, um untergehakt werden zu können. Damit lässt sich erreichen, daß abweichend von der jahrzehntelangen Praxis die Eisenbahnschwelle bei der Montage oder dergleichen nicht mehr durch Unterhaken transportiert werden muß, sondern durch Einhaken des Transportmittels, wie eine gängige Schwellentragzange, in die Eingreiföffnungen, die sich entfernt vom Boden bzw. Schotter vorsehen lassen, vorzugsweise beidseitig, einander gegenüberliegend in den Seitenwandungen der Eisenbahnschwelle.This object is achieved in that the railway sleeper is formed with means of transport engaging.
