  • an adapter which is known from European patent application No. 1 137 137, is used for mechanically and electrically installing the equipment in the unit.
  • the side walls of this known construction are made up of bent-over parts of the sheet metal baseplate, so that the adapter can only be used in combination with specific switching and/or safety equipment having corresponding dimensions.
  • the side walls are separate members, which can be connected to the baseplate.
  • the side walls can be detachably connected to the baseplate without using any further fixing devices and/or tools, thus making it possible to connect the side walls to a baseplate in a quick and simple manner.
  • each side plate is provided with two spaced-apart hammerheads
  • the baseplate is provided with recesses at opposed side edges for accommodating necks of said hammerheads, which enables easy connection of the side walls to a baseplate by sliding the necks of the hammerheads into the recesses in the baseplate, whereby the baseplate will be retained between parts of the side wall located on either side of the necks of the hammerheads.
  • holes are present in the baseplate at positions spaced from the recesses for receiving spring hooks that are attached to the side walls.
  • An efficient embodiment of the side wall comprises two plate-shaped members extending perpendicularly to each other, one of which plate-shaped members extends parallel to the baseplate, partially overlapping it.
  • a U-shaped adapter is obtained, which is capable of accommodating all kinds of switching and/or safety equipment in the space between the upright legs, which equipment can subsequently be protected from being touched in a simple manner by attaching a screening plate to the ends of the upright legs.

  • the side wall comprises block- shaped members on either side thereof.
  • space is created between the baseplate and the part of the side wall that extends parallel thereto for accommodating all kinds of auxiliary equipment, such as an auxiliary bus bar unit.
  • the side wall is made of a plastic material, as a result of which the side wall can be formed in large numbers by means of a mould, in spite of its complicated shape.
  • the side wall is configured such that a relatively simple mould can be used, which only needs to be closed and subsequently opened without using separate mould parts.
