Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for molding and optionally for hydrophobing wood-based material surfaces according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Wood-based materials are today manufactured with high precision and dimensional accuracy. If they are further processed to end products, this is usually associated with a processing of the edges.
- edges in the context of this invention the narrow sides of a wood-based panel and a portion of the width of a narrow side respectively on the top and / or bottom of a wood-based panel are called.
- Typical is the profiling of edges, which are processed into ceiling, wall or floor panels.
- the manufacturing deficit structure is often broken up, so that the appearance of the edge region differs from the appearance of the remaining surface of the wood material. Such deviations are undesirable, especially since they are usually noticed both in the unprocessed surface and in a coated or sealed surface. These are minimal changes in shape ranging from a few hundredths of a millimeter to a millimeter. These changes in shape, usually warping, are particularly troublesome when processing into high-quality panels, since they are also visible after finishing and sealing and make themselves noticeable on the paneled surface-above all in the case of oblique incidence of light.
- Wood-based materials that either come into direct contact with water or are exposed to changing air humidity tend to swell and swell. This affects not only the appearance but also the performance characteristics of the wood materials. This is particularly evident when laying laminate panels made of fiberboard. Excess moisture causes the panels to swell from the edges. Here no protective decorative paper covers the wood material and every change in the moisture content causes a large volume change.
- the method according to the invention and the workpiece according to the invention offer a simple solution to the problem described above.
- Wood-based material surfaces in the region of edges at the transition from a narrow side to the top of a wood-based panel are heated and then shaped under pressure.
- the shaping has a slight change of the contour of the wood-based material surface in the region of the edge to the goal, in order to compensate for changes in shape that have arisen through the processing of the wood material, or correct.
- the shaping causes changes in shape up to one millimeter, preferably up to a tenth of a millimeter, more preferably up to five hundredths of a millimeter, advantageously up to a hundredth of a millimeter. These are therefore only very slight changes in shape, which are essentially due to compression or compression of the wood material can be achieved.
- the term "forms" is thus used in the context of this invention to describe minimal, but measurable and above all visible changes in shape. It does not refer to major changes in shape such as sheet bending.
- the surface of the wood-based material is not uniformly deformed in the region of the edge.
- z. B. causes a loosening of the fiber or Spange Stahl in the range of narrow side and adjacent top of the plate, it can be achieved directly by appropriate training of the tool a greater compression, where narrow side and top adjacent to each other. The compression of this area then z. B. to the transition of the edge in the top of the wood-based panel decrease, as well as the middle layer of wood materials on the narrow side.
- the change in shape of up to one millimeter described above is quite sufficient to eliminate loosening of the fiber or Spangeglages or to coatings which have an undesirably greater film thickness at the transition from top to narrow side of a panel than on the remaining portions of the top To compact dimensions.
- the changes in shape are only a few tenths of a millimeter.
- the process can be carried out on different plants. If a heated tool is guided under pressure over the surface of a wood material to be molded or hydrophobized, the uppermost layer of the surface is softened once more and fibers stick together with wood ingredients or any existing binders. This softening of the wood surface and the bonding of the wood components or the fibers or shavings with lignin and / or with a possibly present binder during cooling causes molding, but also a hydrophobization of the surface of the wood material, without additional means are added.
- the molding according to the invention and, if appropriate, hydrophobicization can be integrated without difficulty into the customary production process of wood-based materials or of wood-based products, in particular of panels with untreated edges.
- the exposure time of the heated tool is limited to a few seconds or fractions of seconds.
- the temperature during the hydrophobing is at least 80 ° C, preferably above 120 ° C. This is the temperature on the panel, ie on the surface of the wood material.
- the tool must, in order to achieve such heat transfer in such a short time, heated much more, about to 180 ° C, preferably to over 200 ° C.
- the wood-based material surface in the region of the edge with heating systems of various kinds, which are known per se, are heated.
- heating systems of various kinds, which are known per se, are heated.
- convection systems, heating plates or the like. Be used.
- the heated to at least 60 ° C, preferably at least 80 ° C, preferably at least 120 ° C heated surface of the wood material is formed by a tool pressed against the surface. If the surface of the wood-based material is heated in the area of the edge, it is not necessary for the tool to also heat up. It can be used a non-tempered tool, but it can also be used a cooled tool.
- the cooled tool offers the advantage that the shaped material surface solidifies in the desired shape in the area of the edge, so that the desired plastic deformation of the edge area is ensured.
- the tool that causes the forming of the surface of the material in the region of the edge under pressure can be designed as a simple shoe, fixed or movable, heated, non-tempered or cooled.
- the tool is designed to rotate and rolls on the surface to be molded under pressure.
- the softening and melting of the uppermost layer of the wood material, which allows the molding and optionally hydrophobing, can be effected by movably arranged, in particular rotating, or by fixedly arranged tools. Which embodiment is to be chosen depends on operational and procedural parameters.
- the applied pressure can be applied either by a two- or multi-part tool whose different parts are guided under pressure against each other.
- the pressure in a one-piece tool can be applied by a necking that creates pressure in the wood material or on the surface of the wood-based material carried by the tool.
- the molding and / or hydrophobing takes place according to a preferred embodiment during a relative movement between wood-based material surface and tool.
- the relative movement can be given by a guided past the wood-based material surface tool.
- the wood-based material surface is guided past a fixedly positioned tool.
- the relative movement may be slow, e.g. B. at least 20 m / min. But it can also be higher, z. At least 100 m / min or more than 300 m / min.
- the molding of the surface of wood-based materials in the area of the edge can be done by tools with a flat surface. It is also possible to use different surface sections, eg. B. on the narrow side of a wood-based panel and on the surface of a wood-based panel with successively arranged tools to shape or possibly hydrophobic. According to a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the surface of the tool, which comes into contact with the wood material, the surface of the wood material, in particular a profiled surface of the wood material after.
- the pressure during the molding and / or optionally hydrophobing of the surface of a wood material in the region of an edge is at least 10 kg / cm 2 . It is preferred that working is carried out at a higher pressure, that is to say at least 15 kg / cm 2 , preferably at least 50 kg / cm 2 , particularly preferably at least 100 kg / cm 2 to at least 50 kg / cm 2 , more preferably at least 100 kg / cm 2 are applied to the surface to be formed or hydrophobized.
- the inventive method is versatile. Shaping the surface of a wood-based material in the region of an edge is possible both for unprocessed surfaces and for coated or sealed surfaces. It can also be used to correct adverse shape changes caused by the coating or sealing of wood-based surfaces.
- the wood-based material surface to be formed or rendered hydrophobic is a mechanically processed, in particular a profiled surface. If only the finished surface, for example a side edge of a panel made of high-density or medium-density fiberboard provided with a tongue and groove profile, is shaped and / or hydrophobicized by the process according to the invention, then the sealing of the surface remains undisturbed since the surface no longer remains is subsequently changed.
- the surface to be formed or hydrophobized can be moistened before and / or during the hydrophobic treatment.
- the surface of the HDF panel to be hydrophobized is heated and compressed in the mold, whereby part of the cross-sectional reduction in the wood material is compensated by shrinkage under the action of heat.
- the surface of the side edge of the panel softens in the tool, upstanding or protruding fibers are embedded in softening lignin or - as here - in softening, not yet fully reacted binder. This creates a smooth surface that has barely exposed fibers or fiber sections. Since moisture or water are absorbed essentially by fibers, which are the hydrophilic elements of the wood materials With the embedding of the fibers, swelling of the panel is largely precluded.
- the smoothing of the surface also reduces the Rcibwiderstand of the profile, so that a joining, in which a parallel displacement of panels is required after the hydrophobing according to the inventive method is now easier.
- a 5mm width unheated roll is passed over the top of the coated panel at the edge, where the top borders the narrow side or side edge of the panel.
- the unheated roll is arranged after a heater, an infrared radiator, which heats the coated surface of the panel to about 90 ° C.
- the unheated roll compacts the surface of the panel immediately at the transition from top to narrow side by about 0.7 mm.
- At the other end of the 5 mm wide roll there is no more compaction.
- the change in shape from 0.7 mm in the immediate edge region up to 0 mm at the top end of the edge region is linear. After shaping, the cooling of the surface is followed by a cold air flow. The change in shape is thus permanently fixed.
- a workpiece made of wood-based material, whose edge region is formed under heating.
