Abstract
The invention concerns a reciprocating blade system for knives characterized by a blade with curved or arc-shaped cutting edge capable of oscillating or swinging relative to the support whereto it is fixed by any means enabling said movement such that the cutting edge can operate a reciprocating rolling movement on the object to be cut when the handle is pushed backwards in the manner of a standard knife. In the embodiment represented in figure 1, the blade (1) has an arc-shaped cutting edge (5) and is fixed to a support rod (3) extended by a handle (4), through a pin (2) which enables its oscillation along the arrows (7) and (7bis). Thus, by setting the curved surface (5) of the blade (1) which forms the cutting edge and by pressing it on the object to be cut, a reciprocating movement imparted to the handle (4) along the arrows (8) and (8bis) as with any knife, is sufficient for causing the curved and cutting part (5) of the blade (1) to roll above it in one direction then in the other along the arrows (7) and (7bis) and cut with higher efficiency and without pulling the object to be cut. The blade (1) comprises a stop (6), which will brake its reciprocating movement at each stroke end in both directions, so that the cutting edge (5) always remains in contact with the object to be cut and prevent the blade (1) from partly or completely overturning.
Description
Oscillating blade system for knives, allowing high cutting efficiency without pulling on the object to be cut.
The present invention relates to an oscillating blade system for knives, with a cutting edge in a curved shape or in an arc, making it possible to obtain a high cutting efficiency without pulling on the object to be cut and requiring only for the user having to perform the same back and forth movement as for a knife - classic. It is distinguished from circular blades or variants in circumference of various shapes rotating around an axis, in that it is similar to conventional blades but is characterized by a curved or arcuate edge which has the possibility of oscillating. or swing relative to the support to which it is fixed by any means that will allow it to move, so that the cutting edge can perform - a rolling back and forth on what you want to cut when you push the handle d back and forth as with any knife. In the embodiment according to fig.l, the blade (1) has a cutting edge (5), in the shape of an arc of a circle and is fixed to a carrying rod (3) extending by a handle (4), by an axis (2) which allows it to oscillate according to the arrows (7) and (7bis). - The blade (1) has a stop (6), which will slow its movement back and forth at the end of each direction, when this stop comes into contact with the parts (3bis) and (3ter), of the rod (3 ) fig. 2 and 3, so that the cutting edge (5) always remains in contact with the object to be cut and preventing the blade (1) from turning partially or completely. This stop may take various forms, here it is of concave shape opposite to -. the convex shape of the carrier rod (3) at this location, which has the advantage of softening the contact with the carrier rod in its parts (3bis) and (3ter). It can also consist of a spring or a soft material such as plastic or rubber. In the embodiment according to fig. 4, among other fixing means, the blade (1) is fixed to the support rod (3) by a ball joint (2bîs) which also allows it to oscillate - according to the arrows (7 ) and (7bis). This ball joint can either be an integral part of the support rod (3) as in fig. 4, and be articulated in the blade (1), or conversely be an integral part of the blade (1) and articulate in the supporting rod (3). In these cases there is no need to equip the blade (1) with a stop since the back and forth movement will be interrupted when the ends (9) and (9bis) of the blade (1) come in - contact with the parts (10) and (10bis) of the rod (3).
In the embodiment according to fig. 5, among other fixing means, the blade (1) is fixed to the support rod (3) by a spring (2 ter) which also allows it to oscillate according to the arrows (7 ) and (7bis). This spring (2ter) may be located in the extension of the support rod (3) as in fig. (5) or on the side of this support rod as in fig. (6). Other arrangements of this spring are possible.
In all cases, the cutting edge (5) of the blade (1) may be smooth, toothed or micro-toothed. Thus, by placing the curved face (5) of the blade (1) which forms a cutting edge and pressing it on what we want to cut, it will suffice to give a back and forth movement to the handle (4) according to the arrows (8) and (8bis) as with any knife, so that the curved and sharp part (5) of blade (1) rolls over in one direction then in - the other following the arrows (7) and ( 7a) and cuts with great efficiency and without pulling on the object you want to cut. The forward movement is detailed in fig. 2, the backward movement, in fig. 3. By slightly shifting the axis (2) to the left of the radius of the circular arc formed by the blade (1), the length of cut will be increased when the handle is pulled back and vice versa. - The shape of the handle and the fitting system can be various and in various materials, having no effect on the functioning of the system. The supporting rod (3) and the handle (4) may also form one and the same piece. The blade (1) can be shaped with all the materials, steels, ceramics, etc. used - usually for slicing blades. But given the efficiency of the system, it can also be made in plastics, in particular to form inexpensive and even disposable knives.
Knives or tools so equipped, will be particularly effective and practical in all cases where it is necessary to avoid pulling and risking moving or disorganizing the object - to be cut.
They will form excellent individual table knives, in particular for cutting food alternating a hard part with a part which disintegrates or disperses easily, such as pizzas, quiches, pies etc.
