The slug slides in a bore (19) placed inside the rod. A clearance of order of some tenths of millimeter is present between the slug and the bore, and grooves (31) are made on the slug.

Description

The technical field of the invention is that of the valves for fluid circuits as described by the document GB 129383 A which forms a base for claim 1, and in particular valves implemented between a firing brake and a filler of a weapon.

A firing brake is an organ that is interposed between the retreating mass of a weapon and its cradle. It includes a piston that during the recoil of the weapon moves in a hydraulic fluid. The rolling movement of the fluid ensures the braking of the recoil.

A firing brake is usually connected to a hydraulic filler which is a reserve of fluid under moderate pressure (a few tenths of Mega Pascals (MPa)). The purpose of the filler is to compensate for variations in the volume of the fluid as a result of temperature variations (ambient and functional).

It is generally connected to the low pressure side of the brake that is to say at the level of the brake chamber whose volume increases during the recoil. When the filler is connected to a zone of high pressure, for example at the level of the shock buffer or at the high pressure side of the brake (that is to say on the side where the volume is reduced when the weapon is retracted), usually has a valve between the firing brake and the filler. This valve closes when the brake pressure exceeds a certain value. This avoids damaging the filler by possible overpressure.

Known valves comprise a sealing member which is movable against the action of a spring whose stiffness makes it possible to determine the closing pressure of the valve.

A problem with the usual valves is that of the rebound of the valve when the pressure in the chamber increases rapidly before becoming maximum. Such a rebound may impart to the filler an overpressure that may deteriorate.

It is the object of the invention to provide a valve to overcome such drawbacks, while allowing free circulation of the fluid at rest.

Thus, the invention relates to a valve between a firing brake and a filler for a weapon, the valve comprising a pin movable against the action of a return spring, a pin extended by a head having a sealing surface intended for cooperating with a seat to ensure the tight closure of the valve, the closing movement being caused by the increase of the pressure of a fluid inside the brake and the side of the pin, the pin being slid in a bore and comprising means allowing a limited leakage of the fluid between the pin and the bore.

According to a particular embodiment, the leakage means comprise a radial clearance of between 0.08 mm and 0.5 mm.

The leakage means may also include at least one annular groove formed on the pin.

The head may include machining allowing the passage of fluid from the filler to the brake when the valve is in the open position.

Advantageously, the head may be extended towards its sealing surface by a guide rod which will be slidably mounted in a housing.

The valve may include an intermediate chamber interposed between the bore and the housing, the chamber surrounding the valve head.

The bore in which the slider slides can be made in a rod of the firing brake.

The invention will be better understood on reading the following description of a particular embodiment, a description given with reference to the appended drawings and in which:
  • the figure 1 is a sectional view of a firing brake incorporating a valve according to the invention,
  • the figure 2 is an enlarged view showing the valve in the open position,
  • the figure 3 is an enlarged view showing the valve in the closed position,
  • the figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of the valve, cut along the plane whose AA trace is visible at the figure 2 .

The body 4 comprises a head 5 which constitutes a closure plug closing the body 4.

The head 5 has a stepped profile 6, formed of two cylindrical portions of different diameters, which profile cooperates with a complementary shape of machining performed on the breech sleeve 2.

The stepped profile 6 of the head 5 also cooperates with a half-flange 8 which also includes appropriate internal machining. The half-flange 8 is fixed to the bolt sleeve by screws (not shown).

Le frein est ici un frein à fourrure comportant une chemise interne 9.The brake is here a fur brake comprising an inner liner 9.

A rod 10 is slidably mounted in the body 4. It carries at its inner end a piston head 11 which slides in the chamber defined by the body 4. A shock pad 12 is integral with the body 4 and it cooperates with an internal bore 13 of the rod 10 so as to dampen the end of the braking movement.

The end of the body 4 which is traversed by the rod 10 is closed by a plug 14 which carries means 15 ensuring the seal between plug 14 and rod 10.

The rod 10 carries a head 16 which has a stepped profile formed of three distinct cylindrical diameters. This profile cooperates with two jaws 17a, 17b which are fixed by screws (not shown) to the cradle 3.

The firing brake 1 is connected to a filler 18 through a bore 19 disposed inside the rod 10. This bore carries a valve 27 pushed by a spring 28 and which prevents overpressure from reaching the filler 18.

The figure 2 shows this valve 27 in its open position which is the one it occupies when the brake is at rest.

The valve comprises a cylindrical pin 27a which is extended by a head 27b. The latter comprises a conical seal surface 29 which is intended to cooperate with a conical seat 30 machined on the head 16 of the rod 10. The pin 27a is slidably mounted in the bore 19 and it further comprises means allowing a limited leakage of the fluid between its outer cylindrical surface and the bore 19.

These leakage means comprise, on the one hand, a functional clearance of the order of a few tenths of a millimeter between the pin 27a and the bore 19 and, on the other hand, annular grooves 31 made on the pin 27a and which make it possible to decrease slightly the pressure of the fluid during its passage between pin and bore.

Elle permet de réduire la pression du fluide provenant de l'alésage 19.This intermediate chamber receives the leakage of hydraulic fluid passing between the pin 27a and the bore 19. It reduces the pressure of the fluid from the bore 19.

The valve 27 is extended on the filler 18 side by a cylindrical rod 32 which slides with a play in a housing 33 of the head 16, housing which receives the spring 28.

On maîtrise ainsi le positionnement de la portée d'étanchéité 29 par rapport à son siège 30.The game is also of the order of a few tenths of a millimeter and it is lower than the previous one. It allows the passage of the fluid from the filler 18 to the bore 19. This rod 32 ensures the guiding of the valve relative to the housing 33. It thus controls the positioning of the sealing surface 29 with respect to its seat 30.

The figure 4 shows a cross section of the valve at the head 27b. This section makes it possible to visualize the three machining operations 37 which allow the fluid to pass from the filler 18 to the brake when the valve is in the open position.

The spring 28 is dimensioned such that it maintains the valve 27 in the open position when the pressure on the side of the bore 19 is less than or equal to about 1 MPa (Mega Pascal). On the other hand, the spring is depressed and the valve is closed when the bore side pressure 19 is greater than 1 MPa. Such an arrangement ensures a maintenance of the valve in the open position during all the quasi-static movements and a closure of the valve for the movements in which a high pressure prevails in the bore 19.

The operation of this valve is as follows.

When the weapon is rest position the position of the valve is the one shown in the figure 2 . The valve 27 is then open and the fluid can flow as well from the filler 18 to the brake 1 as the brake to the filler 18 to maintain a trimming pressure of the order of a few tenths of MPa.

When firing there is a rapid movement of the piston 11 relative to the brake body 4 and return to slower battery. If we go back to figure 1 which shows the brake of shooting at rest, the rod 10 first leaves the body quickly and then it returns to its original position. At the beginning of recoil, there appears a transient depression at the bore 19. Given the reduced duration of the phenomenon and the diameter of the channel 34 which is smaller than that of the bore 19, the filler 18 does not provide fluid to the brake in a noticeable way.

Celle ci adopte la position représentée figure 3 où la portée conique 29 est en appui contre son siège 30.During the return movement in battery the pressure in the bore 19 increases and becomes sufficient to close the valve 27. This adopts the position shown figure 3 where the conical bearing 29 bears against its seat 30.

The controlled leakage of fluid between the pin 27a and the bore 19 makes it possible to postpone closing the valve by a few milliseconds. Such an arrangement avoids the rebound of the head 27b of the valve against its seat. This avoids any passage of high fluid pressure to the filler 18, especially when the end of the return movement in battery when the pressure is the strongest.

Moreover this valve works whatever the temperature of the fluid.

As a variant it is of course possible to make a valve in which the sealing surface 29 and its seat 30 have a shape other than conical. For example, plane sealing surfaces may be used.
