Definitions
- the invention relates to an applied by thermal spraying ferrous Layer of a sliding surface, in particular for cylinder surfaces of engine blocks according to the preamble of claim 1 and a process for the preparation and the use of this layer.
- WO 03/106718 a generic iron-containing layer is known, the is applied by thermal spraying and having an amorphous structure with having finely divided, nano-crystalline metal borides and / or metal carbides.
- a Such a layer is well suited as a sliding surface due to the high hardness.
- To is the layer in the region of the sliding surfaces on a base material to coated machine parts by thermal spraying.
- Which resulting surface of the sprayed-on layer is relatively rough and must be as Sliding surface to be able to be smoothed by a surface treatment.
- such processing is done by honing, but there are others Machining and non-chipping processes of surface treatment possible.
- a lubricant When used as a sliding surface is usually a lubricant provided.
- the lubricant acts only limited, especially in Verbrennunsmotoren the lubricating film can easily tear off. This increases the wear of the iron-containing layer and leads to it increased friction.
- the sliding surface may become operational during operation the microcracks serve as the oil retention volume for the lubricant of the sliding surface. Due to the extreme capillary action of the microcracks, the lubricant remains in this and is neither rinsed nor evaporated it.
- the Microcracks have a length of 10 to 50 microns and a width of 0.2 to 2 microns. Due to their small size, the microcracks reduce the overall strength and the hardness of the iron-containing layer not.
- the layer is similar to the known porous layers have the same properties with respect to Lubricant storage, but without the disadvantages of lower strength and the higher lubricant consumption during operation.
- microcracks are already preferred when applying the iron-containing layer formed by the thermal spraying.
- process parameters When applying the iron-containing layer, the micro-cracks occur without additional Production expense. It does not matter if these are up to the surface of the sprayed layer, or whether these only in the substructure of the iron-containing layer are present. This can be z. B. then be given if the Layer is applied in several layers, as in WO 03/106718 described.
- the iron-containing layer in any case subsequently must undergo a surface treatment, can in this step, the Microcracks are exposed by the covering layer of the iron-containing layer, the incurred during spraying, is removed. It can the Surface treatment a mechanical fine machining of ferrous Be layer. These are z. As honing, grinding or polishing. These tried Methods allow a cost-effective and accurate production of the surface a sliding layer.
- the microcracks are caused by shrinkage stresses during rapid cooling after application, d. H. after the thermal Spraying the iron-containing layer onto a base material.
- the distribution and size The cracks may be due to the time of cooling and a corresponding be controlled faster or slower cooling rate.
- the cooling takes place directly after the thermal spraying of iron-containing layer. This results automatically by cooling the iron-containing layer as soon as it is applied to a base material and the Base material has a lower temperature than the sprayed layer. In this case, no additional cooling is provided, whereby the Manufacturing process for the microcracks caused no additional costs.
- the cooling can also be targeted by the heated iron-containing layer targeted in individual, selected areas or in total by additional external cooling, such.
- additional external cooling such as water jets, liquid gases, Compressed air, etc. in sections or in total is cooled.
- Such methods Although costly, but allow even more targeted control of Formation of microcracks.
- the cooling is carried out after subsequent heat input into the iron-containing layer. This can be targeted highly loaded points of sliding surfaces the structure with the microcracks in the iron-containing layer are generated by the heat input selectively in this Areas.
- Another advantage of the subsequent heat input is that in the area of Heat input finely divided nanocrystalline metal borides and / or metal carbides the amorphous structure of the iron-containing layer are excreted. This will be the strength of the iron-containing layer in the region of heat input substantially elevated.
- nano-crystalline metal borides and / or metal carbides may be formed in selected areas of the sliding surface, z. B. in highly loaded upper and bottom reversal point of a cylinder bore, additional hard areas generated become.
- the selective heat input also allows small local areas with to produce greater hardness and / or altered surface properties. there the extent of the punctual heat input can be much lower than the entire extent of the sliding surface.
- the iron-containing layer preferably has a hardness in the region of the heat input from 1000 to 1250 HV 0.05 on, however, the hardness can be adjusted by appropriate Process parameters and material composition readily in the range be set between 800 HV 0.05 and 1500 HV 0.05. Such hardness is previously z.
- tungsten carbide / cobalt based tungsten carbide tools known, and can now be applied over a large area for sliding surfaces. Due to the high hardness, the iron-containing layer is extremely wear-resistant.
- the Metallboride or metal carbides preferably have a size of 60 to 130 nm on. Due to the small size, the friction is reduced and the hardness increased.
- the subsequent heat input by means of laser light and / or Electron beams.
- These energy sources can be targeted in a small area selectively introduce heat or energy into the iron-containing layer.
- these energy sources in a small space, such.
- the Allow heat input to produce the inventive iron-containing layer can be used to produce the inventive iron-containing layer.
- the thermal spraying method is for application the iron-containing layer a plasma wire spraying (PTWA) or a Arc wire spraying (LDS). Both methods allow for more correct Adjusting the process parameters already during the spraying of the iron-containing layer the formation of microcracks, since here also directly a cooling of applied iron-containing layer even when applying itself or directly afterwards.
- PTWA plasma wire spraying
- LDS Arc wire spraying
- piston rings are suitable, with the inventive ferrous Layer to be coated.
- Piston rings are highly loaded and very difficult to lubricate.
- the microcracks in the iron-containing layer are ideal Lubricant pockets to provide a continuous lubrication of the piston ring even then make sure when on the with the piston ring cooperating cylinder surface in the short term no lubricant is present, z. B. in a cold start of an internal combustion engine, or in thermal overload, or generally at a break of the lubricating film.
- the iron-containing microcracked layer is highly loaded cylinder surfaces of supercharged diesel and gasoline engines. Due to the high mechanical clasping of the layer with the Base material, the coating is particularly suitable for thermal shock stressed engines. Thermal shock occurs when at cold start at low Ambient temperatures Engines quickly under load to maximum speed to turn up.
- the iron-containing layer having an amorphous structure with has finely divided, nano-crystalline metal borides and / or metal carbides is the sliding surface highly resilient, because of the nano-crystalline precipitates the metal boride and metal carbides create a layer of extremely high hardness. Furthermore, the borides themselves lead to a very low coefficient of friction, so that in conjunction with the microcracks this layer outstanding Has sliding properties.
- a preferred use of the iron-containing layer according to the invention can when repairing worn sliding surfaces.
- the layer has one excellent mechanical connection or stapling to the base material due to the amorphous solidification and is thus able to subsequently to be applied.
- the order of the layer on one can reworked, cleaned and / or blasted surface done.
- This allows the flexible use of the layer in any repair work on sliding surfaces.
- Due to the high hardness and strength of the layer is also a evt. Weakening of the base material due to wear or subsequent removal balanced, so that the original strength of the base material is nearly can be reached again or even exceeded.
- Application example is the critical land area between cylinder bores of an engine block.
- the cylinder bore is brought back to the original nominal size, so that the original piston can be used. Furthermore, since the layer is a very high strength, including the original strength of the engine block even restored, since the engine block is now the original Has wall thicknesses.
- inventive iron-containing layer in any suitable combination with the Produced process for the preparation and use of a ferrous layer can be, as well as vice versa, the inventive method for the preparation can be used to produce an iron-containing layer.
