- a simple thermostatic device fulfilling this function consists of a bimetallic strip subjected to heating of the vaporization chamber and which opens a non-drip valve arranged in series with the drip.
- the advanced irons further include self-cleaning means for cleaning the interior of this chamber.
- These means consist of a relatively wide opening in the bottom of the internal water tank through which can quickly empty said tank into the vaporization chamber, causing a jet of water and steam, which purges the iron. The flow of water from the tank to the chamber must then be able to continue despite the sudden cooling of the vaporization chamber and the closing of the anti-drip valve.
- Patent FR2589492 discloses an iron having a drip which controls the flow of water in the vaporization chamber. The drip is in series with a non-drip valve mounted on a rocker lever operated by a bimetallic sensitive to the temperature of the chamber. But this iron does not include a self-cleaning device and the anti-drop systematically closes the water circuit when the chamber cools.
- the patent FR2769925 describes an iron having a self-cleaning function consisting of a self-cleaning valve formed by an elastomeric bell surrounding the drip and capable of short-circuiting it. But the iron has no anti-gout device.
- Patent DE29720259 describes an iron in which the drip function and the cleaning function are obtained by the same control which acts on the drip needle in a first part of its stroke and causes the self-cleaning in a second part, simplifying the device. But this iron has no anti-gout device.
- WO9945190 discloses an iron having a drip, an anti-drip device and a self-cleaning function. But the iron has two controls and a valve that bypasses the anti-drip to perform all these functions.
- Patent FR2821368 discloses an iron having a drip, an anti-drip device and a self-cleaning function. But this function is achieved by means of a bellows with a valve end, so an additional seal to be sealed.
