Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the field of writing articles in which the ink is trapped in a capillary reservoir. It relates more particularly to a writing article of this type with improved ink restitution.
  • a connector that is itself capillary ensures the transfer of the ink from the capillary reservoir to the writing head, the latter being either an independent piece or consist of the end front of the connector.
  • the capillary reservoir is usually constituted of a network of fibers. It may for example be acetate or polyester fibers.
  • Such a writing article is disclosed in US-A-5433545, where the ink is formed from a powdered pigment.
  • the ink that is consumed at the writing head is replaced by ink from the capillary reservoir.
  • This type of article has a major disadvantage which is that all the ink that has been injected into the capillary reservoir during the manufacture of the article is not restored in terms of writing. Indeed it is found that there remains a certain proportion of ink, included in the capillary network of the reservoir, at the end of life of the article. This proportion of unrecovered ink can generally be estimated at about 20%.
  • the object of the present invention is to overcome the drawbacks noted of capillary reservoir writing articles by improving the rate of return of the ink of such articles.
  • this object is perfectly achieved by a writing article which, in known manner, comprises a body, a capillary reservoir in which the ink is trapped and is housed in said body, a writing head opening out of the front portion of said body and a capillary connector ensuring the transfer of the ink from the capillary reservoir to the writing head.
  • this writing article also comprises a second reservoir, said auxiliary, containing a carrier liquid of said ink as well as actuating means for releasing said liquid from the auxiliary reservoir so that it moves in the main capillary reservoir and pushes the ink towards the connector.
  • the implementation of the actuating means is made by the user when he finds a drop in the writing quality of his article.
  • the purpose of the carrier liquid is to move towards the connector the inclusions of ink in the capillary network of the reservoir which would not have migrated naturally during normal operation of the article. This ink carried by the liquid reaches the connector and the article can be used again until the total consumption of the ink.
  • the carrier liquid capable of fulfilling the function specified above, preferably contains the solvent of the ink. It therefore contains in particular water when it is an aqueous ink.
  • the carrier liquid injected into the main reservoir displaces the residual ink remaining in said reservoir, but, by mixing with said ink, may alter the initial writing characteristics thereof.
  • the carrier liquid it is preferable for the carrier liquid to contain all or some of the components of the ink which confer on it its writing properties and whose presence in the carrier liquid allows the residual ink mixed with the liquid. carrier to retain its initial writing properties.
  • the carrier liquid contains a certain proportion of glycol - in particular of the order of 20 to 30% - which is known to be used for to increase the water solubility of certain constituents of an aqueous type ink.
  • the carrier liquid contains a resin, which is known to be used to impart ink to its dry erase property.
  • the carrier liquid may contain certain additives promoting its proper functioning, especially surfactants.
  • the auxiliary reservoir is also made of fibrous material; moreover during the implementation of the actuating means, the auxiliary tank is placed to come into contact with the rear part of the main tank.
  • the two main and auxiliary tanks are arranged in the body of the article in the same longitudinal direction.
  • it is the front face of the auxiliary tank which is applied, on contacting, on the rear face of the main tank.
  • the carrier liquid, contained in the auxiliary reservoir diffuses by capillarity towards the main reservoir during this contacting.
  • the capillarity of the auxiliary tank is lower than that of the main tank. This difference in capillarity has the advantage of ensuring easier initiation of the passage of the carrier liquid from the auxiliary reservoir to the main reservoir during the contacting.
  • the auxiliary reservoir is formed of a spongy mass impregnated with the carrier liquid.
  • the spongy mass is compressed, thereby releasing the carrier liquid that it contains.
  • the carrier liquid is in the liquid state in the auxiliary tank.
  • the article comprises means for opening said auxiliary reservoir, said means allowing the release of the carrier liquid contained in the auxiliary reservoir during of the implementation of the actuating means.
  • the auxiliary tank of whatever nature it is, is for example housed in an actuating part which is slidably mounted relative to the body part of the article in which is located the main tank, the connector and the writing head. It should be noted that the displacement of this actuating part, triggering the release of the carrier liquid, results in a decrease in the length of the article, which has the advantage of allowing users to visually detect that the auxiliary reservoir has already been activated.
  • the user realizes that the article of writing that he is using is at the end of his life when he notes a weakening of the coloristic intensity of what he writes, due to a relative decrease in the supply of ink from the reservoir. This is particularly the case of writing articles whose ink is trapped in a capillary reservoir, including fibrous.
  • the user has only to throw his article, possibly after reaching the minimum acceptable coloristic intensity.
  • the capillary reservoir still contains ink trapped in the fibrous network. and which has not been restored for writing during normal operation of the article.
  • the present invention makes it possible to improve the ink restitution of the article, by virtue of the use of a carrier liquid capable of repelling the residual ink contained in the capillary reservoir, up to the almost complete consumption of this liquid. ink, the release of the carrier liquid being obtained by the implementation of actuation means by the user when he notes the weakening of the coloristic intensity of what he writes.
  • the auxiliary reservoir containing the carrier liquid thus cooperates with an actuating part which has an inactive position which corresponds to the normal use of the article and an active position which corresponds to the release of the carrier liquid.
  • the inactive position the ink of the main tank is transferred to the writing head in the active position, the carrier liquid contained in the auxiliary tank is transferred to the main tank so as to repel the residual ink that it contains to the connector.
  • FIGS. 1 to 4 illustrate, in a particular embodiment, this general principle characteristic of the invention.
  • the body 2 of the article has its rear part which is constituted by a part 7 which is slidably mounted relative to the main part 8 of the body 2.
  • This rear part 7, which constitutes the actuating part of the invention, serves as a housing for an auxiliary tank 6.
  • the rear piece 7 has an outside diameter which is adjusted relative to the inside diameter of the piece. main 8 so that, during sliding, the rear part 7 enters the interior space of the main part 8, while maintaining the seal.
  • the main reservoir 3 contains the writing ink adapted to the article 1.
  • the auxiliary reservoir contains a carrier liquid able to migrate by capillarity into the main reservoir and to push the residual ink contained by it towards the transfer tip 4.
  • This carrier liquid contains the solvent of the ink, possibly water if it is an aqueous ink, as well as various additives, especially surfactants capable of promoting the entrainment of the ink during migration of said liquid into the main tank.
  • Both reservoirs 3, 6 are both conventionally made of a fibrous material.
  • the transfer tip 4, whose front end constitutes the writing head 5, has its rear end 4a which penetrates into the fibers of the front part of the main tank 3.
  • Figure 1 illustrates the respective arrangement of the two main reservoir 3 and auxiliary 6 in the normal operating position of the article. These two tanks are distant from each other, in particular thanks to a tongue system 9 which pushes the auxiliary tank 6 towards the bottom of the rear piece 7, preventing said auxiliary tank 6 from coming into contact with the main tank 3 in particular where Article 1 is at the bottom.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates this particular moment of operation of the article, the number of hatching on the main tank 3 and the transfer tip 4 showing that a certain quantity of ink remains in the main tank but which is insufficient to have a certain amount of ink. good quality writing. This is the signal given to the user to operate the auxiliary tank 6.
  • the capillarity of the main reservoir 3 is greater than that of the auxiliary reservoir 6, this difference in capillarity making it possible to easily overcome the possible barrier caused by the interface between the two reservoirs 6, 3.
  • the auxiliary reservoir 6 has a fiber density which is 80 to 95% of the fiber density of the main reservoir.
  • the fiber density of the main reservoir being of the order of 0.23 g / cm 3
  • the density of fibers of the order of 0.20 g has been chosen for the auxiliary reservoir. / cm 3 .
  • FIG. 3 illustrates this transfer of the carrier liquid between the auxiliary reservoir 6 and the main reservoir 3 and the continued use
  • FIG. 4 illustrates the end of life of the article 1, the ink being totally consumed. The article must be thrown away.
  • the amount of carrier liquid contained in the auxiliary tank 6 must be just sufficient to allow the entrainment of the residual amount of ink contained in the main tank 3, knowing that this amount is on average of about 20% to 40%. % (depending on the type of ink used) of the initial quantity of ink injected into said main tank 3.
  • the amount of carrier liquid in the auxiliary tank 6 is of the order of 20 to 40% of the amount of ink in the main tank of the article.
  • the actuation of the rear part 7 causes a deformation of the body of the article 1 which allows any user to visualize that said article is in its final phase of use, without the possibility of a further extension.
  • this actuation corresponding to the depression of the rear part 7 in the main part 8 of the body 2, causes a decrease in the length of the body 2 of the article 1.
  • Explanations will be given, and possibly worn on the body of the article, to inform the user of the two positions, inactive and active rear part 7 and that, when the rear part 7 has been moved to the active position, it is important to obtain a replacement item.
  • the body 2 of the article must, in this case, be equipped with means for maintaining the inoperative position of the rear part 7 during normal use, then its actuation and finally its retention in the retracted position.
  • FIGS. 5 and 6 illustrate a particular embodiment for ensuring these relative holdings of the rear piece 7 with respect to the main piece 8 of the body 2.
  • the rear part 7 generally cylindrical in shape, is closed by a bottom 7a while it is open at its other end, leaving the passage for the introduction of the auxiliary reservoir 6.
  • the rear part 7 On its outer periphery, the rear part 7 comprises, towards its open end, an annular shoulder 14 of substantially frustoconical shape, said truncated cone being inclined towards the front of the article.
  • the main part 8 of the body 2 comprises, on its inner periphery, four annular shoulders referenced respectively 10 to 13.
  • the first shoulder 10 extends towards the inside of the article the extreme edge 8a of the main part 8.
  • the second shoulder 11 is at a short distance from the first shoulder 10 and has a frustoconical shape which is complementary to that of the shoulder 14 of the rear piece 7. More specifically, as is clear from the examination of FIG.
  • the shoulder 14 of the rear piece 7 is disposed between the two first shoulders 10, 11, the inclined face of the shoulder 14 of the rear piece 7 being substantially applied against the inclined face of the second shoulder 11 of the main piece 8.
  • the shoulder 14 of the rear piece 7 is temporarily blocked between the first two shoulders 10, 11 of the piece 8.
  • the third shoulder of the main part 8 has exactly the same configuration as the second shoulder 11.
  • the fourth shoulder 13 has the same configuration as that of the first shoulder 10.
  • C ' is this final position, which corresponds to the active position of the auxiliary reservoir 6, which is illustrated in Figure 6, the shoulder 14 of the rear part 7 being permanently retained between the third and fourth shoulders 12, 13 of the main part 8 .
  • the distance traveled by the shoulder 14 between the two inactive (FIG. 5) and active (FIG. 6) positions is determined so that, in this second position, the front face 6a of the auxiliary reservoir 6 penetrates approximately 1mm into the face rear 3a of the main tank 3 so as to allow the transfer of the carrier liquid from one to the other tank 6.3 and also to visualize the passage of the article to end-of-life use
  • a tongue-and-groove system 9 mounted on the inside face of the piece 7, tongue 9 which has just been assembled. apply to the front face 6a during the displacement of the rear piece 7, and which is pushed back by the main tank 3, not preventing contact between the two reservoirs 3,6.
  • This embodiment is of course not exclusive to the invention. It is possible to envisage other modes of displacement and also of blocking of the rear body 7 with respect to the main body 8, for example a displacement which is not only longitudinal but also rotational, implementing in the inner periphery of the main part 8 a helical groove for somehow screwing the rear piece 7 to enter the main part 8, this grooving being provided with non-return means similar to what is obtained with the complementary frustoconical shoulders.
  • the diameter of the main reservoir 3 is greater than that of the auxiliary reservoir 6.
  • the main reservoir 3 had a diameter of 13.3 mm, a length of 37 mm, contained 3 g of ink and had a fiber density of 0.234 g / cm 3 .
  • the auxiliary reservoir 6 it had a diameter of 11.4 mm, a length of 29 mm, contained 1.5 g of carrier liquid and had a fiber density of 0.203 g / cm 3 .
  • the auxiliary reservoir may be capillary without being a fibrous reservoir, for example a reservoir made of sintered powder or else be constituted by a spongy mass having absorbed a certain amount of ink and being capable of restoring it by compression of said spongy mass.
  • the relative displacement of the rear piece 7 must be a sufficient distance to obtain the desired compression effect.
  • the auxiliary reservoir may also consist of a pocket containing ink in the liquid state.
  • the actuating piece which may be the rear piece 7, must be provided with means for opening said pocket, for example one or more tapered lugs allowing, during the relative displacement of said piece to pierce the pocket and to obtain the flow of the carrier liquid that it contains.
  • This pocket is located towards the bottom of the rear piece, being in particular held in contact against the rear face 3a of the main tank 3.
  • the actuating piece is movable by longitudinal translation relative to the axis of symmetry of the article 1.
  • the actuating part may consist of the portion of the body of the article containing the auxiliary reservoir and made of a material deformable by compression or torsion and whose deformation is preferably permanent once it has been performed. It is then sufficient for the user to exert sufficient force on this portion of the article to deform and thus achieve the compression of the fibrous or spongy mass, releasing the carrier liquid from the auxiliary reservoir. In this case it is the mechanical deformation of this portion of the body of the article which constitutes the visual reference of end of life for the article.
