Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a weight system for underwater diving vests.
  • the compensating vests are inflatable envelopes traditionally worn around the neck and which serve to balance the divers during their immersion, ie to compensate the variation of their weight according to the depth and the level of filling of their reserve. gas.
  • vests are usually inflated by an oral inflator or a gas source when the diver needs to increase his buoyancy because he tends to go to the bottom and deflated by means of appropriate purges when his buoyancy becomes too great and that the diver has a tendency to go up. The diver can thus if he wishes to seek a position of constant balance regardless of its variable weight.
  • the diver To compensate in part for this imbalance at the lift when the bottle is empty, the diver must imperatively use a lead belt which the weight is calculated so that the empty bottle does not attract the plunger towards the surface at the end of the dive nor towards the bottom too quickly at the beginning of this one.
  • This lead belt must however be able to be dropped at any time if safety requires, and especially if the diver runs out of air during a dive and is forced to reach the surface.
  • the system according to the present invention aims to overcome these disadvantages.
  • ballast sheath at least one of the faces is reinforced by a sufficiently rigid and slightly longer than the sheath itself so that the restraint system has a leverage effect contributing to maintain it in place in the pocket of the compensation vest for housing.
  • the device consists of a ballast element contained in a sheath 1 intended to be inserted into one or more pockets 2 of a compensation vest 3 ( Figures 1 and 2).
  • the sheath 1, of textile or thermoplastic material or equivalent, is preferably of rectangular shape but may be in any other form suitable for application.
  • the ballast 4 will be maintained in the sheath by any satisfactory means, seam, flap or closure of any kind.
  • This sheath 1 is longitudinally reinforced at least on one side and possibly on two sides by a plate 5 sufficiently rigid so that the sheath ballast can be introduced into the pocket 2 of the vest 3 provided for this purpose and dimensioned so that the sheath to the ballast once in place, and whatever its loading, or substantially the same volume and requires the same effort to drop.
  • the reinforcing plate 5 of the sheath 1 to ballast will be substantially longer than the sheath itself on the side of the retaining strap such that once it is in place in the pocket 2 provided for this purpose and then locked, this wafer exerts a leverage contributing to firmly hold the sheath 1 to ballast in said pocket.
  • the retaining strap consists of a flexible band 6 fixed on one side to the sheath 1 and, on the other side, substantially in the middle of a rigid flexible blade 7, one end of which is tapered to facilitate its insertion into the housing of the specific holding loop 8 secured to the vest 3.
  • the rigid blade 7 will have at the end opposite the tapered portion a handle 9 or a form allowing easy grip.
  • the holding loop 8 is equipped with an articulated lever 10 arranged to ensure, in the closed position (FIG. 5), the blocking of the rigid blade 7 by means of a notches 11 provided on the latter, and to open by releasing the sheath. 1 when a lateral traction T is exerted on the handle 9, so that the plunger can actuate it with one hand by acting on the handle consisting of an external rotational movement and then of forward traction these two movements combined to prevent an inadvertent release caused by a pull on the handle by mistake ( Figures 6 and 7).
