Definitions
- the present invention relates to a weight system for vests scuba diving.
- Compensating vests are inflatable envelopes traditionally worn around the neck and serve to balance divers at during their immersion, ie to compensate for the variation of their weight according to the depth and fill level of their gas supply.
- vests are usually inflated by an oral inflator or a gas source when the diver needs to increase his buoyancy because he tends to go to the bottom and deflated by means of appropriate purges when his buoyancy becomes too great and that the diver has a tendency to go up. The diver can thus if he wishes to seek a position of constant balance regardless of its variable weight.
- the diver To compensate in part for this imbalance at the lift when the bottle is empty, the diver must use a lead belt whose weight is calculated so that the empty bottle does not attract the diver to the surface at the end of the dive nor towards the bottom too quickly at the beginning of this one.
- This lead belt must however be able to be dropped at any time if safety requires, and especially if the diver runs out of air during a dive and is forced to reach the surface.
- ballast pocket in the compartment of the buoy provided for this purpose and its securing by the combination of the flaps generate complicated maneuvers while especially when they have to be done in the water, on the surface before beginning of the dive.
- the release maneuver is also easy in the measure or the superposition of flaps and "velcro strips" necessary for the holding of the assembly involves a significant traction force to perform the release. Plus ballast is important, the more it involves the strengthening of the closure system and more the release becomes difficult.
- the system according to the present invention aims to remedy these disadvantages.
- ballast sheath of which at least one of the faces is reinforced by a sufficiently rigid part and slightly longer than the sheath itself so that the restraint system has a leveraging effect to keep it in place in the pocket of the compensation vest that serves as housing.
- the device consists of a ballast element content in a sheath 1 intended to fit into one or more pockets 2 of a vest of compensation 3 (FIGS. 1 and 2).
- the sheath 1, made of textile or thermoplastic material or equivalent, is preferably of rectangular shape but may be in any other form suitable for application.
- the ballast 4 will be maintained in the sheath by any means satisfactory, seam, flap or closure of any kind.
- This sheath 1 is reinforced longitudinally at least on one side and possibly on two sides by a plate 5 rigid enough that the sheath can be introduced into the pocket 2 of the vest 3 provided for this purpose and dimensioned so that the sheath with ballast once in place, and whatever its loading, or substantially the same volume and requires the same effort to drop.
- the reinforcing plate 5 of the sheath 1 to the ballast will be substantially more longer than the sheath itself on the side of the retaining straps so that a once it is in place in the pocket 2 provided for this purpose and then locked, this plate exerts a leverage effect contributing to firmly hold sheath 1 to the ballast in said poached.
- the retaining strap consists of a flexible band 6 fixed with a side to the sheath 1 and, on the other side, substantially in the middle of a rigid blade 7 and flexible one end is tapered to facilitate its introduction into the housing of the specific holding loop 8 secured to the vest 3.
- the rigid blade 7 will comprise at the end opposite the tapered portion a handle 9 or a shape allowing easy grip.
- the holding loop 8 is equipped with an articulated lever arranged to ensure, in the closed position (FIG. blocking the rigid blade 7 with a notch 11 provided on the latter, and open by releasing the sheath 1 when one exerts a lateral traction T on the handle 9, so that the diver can operate it with one hand per action on the handle consisting of an external rotation movement and then a forward traction movement, these two combined movements to prevent inadvertent release due to traction on the handle by mistake ( Figures 6 and 7).
Abstract
Description
