Definitions

  • the invention relates to a surgical instrument with a handpiece through which an aspiration channel extends, a tool for processing tissue which can be attached to the handpiece and is penetrated by a channel, and a rinsing liquid line for supplying a rinsing liquid to the tool, the rinsing liquid together with tissue components through the Tool can be extracted.
  • Such a surgical instrument is used, for example, in eye surgery and is described in WO-A-00/53136 and DE-A-40 08 594.
  • a phaco emulsification handpiece is used to smash the lens of the eye.
  • the tool is designed as a hollow needle and is made to move back and forth linearly at a high frequency by a vibration mechanism of the handpiece.
  • a rinsing liquid for example an emulsion liquid, is supplied around the outside of the hollow needle, which reaches the operation site, from where it is sucked out together with detached tissue components through the tool and an aspiration channel of the handpiece.
  • the phaco hollow needle As far as tools are concerned, in the case of ophthalmic surgery the phaco hollow needle, this can be easily manufactured as a disposable item.
  • the handpiece is not least due to the sonotrode in the handpiece constructively quite complex, which is why this handpiece is not suitable as a disposable part for cost reasons.
  • the invention is based on the object of creating a surgical instrument in which o.a. There are no sterilization problems.
  • a surgical instrument of the type mentioned at the outset in which the tool is in fluid connection with a hose which extends through the aspiration channel of the handpiece when the tool is attached.
  • the aspiration line or the aspiration lumen of the handpiece interchangeable.
  • the tool and the hose are now removed from the handpiece. Since the interior of the handpiece has not come into contact with the extracted tissue components and the rinsing liquid, it is no longer necessary to operate such a large amount of sterilization.

  • the aspiration tube 14 is inserted in a fluid-tight and fixed manner in this channel 18 at the threaded end of the phaco needle 12.
  • this arrangement 10 is inserted into a phaco-emulsification handpiece 20.
  • This handpiece 20 has an essentially cylindrical housing 22 with an infusion supply channel 24 integrated in the housing wall and a sonotrode 26 arranged in the housing 22.

  • a cover 31 is pushed onto the front end 30 of the handpiece 12 and extends to the front end 32 of the phaco needle 12.
  • the aspiration hose 14 connected to the phaco needle 12 extends through an (aspiration) channel 34 through the sonotrode 26 and the remaining part of the housing 22, to which a hose is connected which leads to a suction device.
  • the phaco needle 18 is unscrewed and removed from the handpiece 20 together with the aspiration tube 24. After the handpiece has been sterilized, it can be fitted can be reused with a new phaco needle and aspiration hose.
  • the special construction of the handpiece 20 with an easily exchangeable phaco needle and an aspiration tube provides a particularly simple way of sterilizing the handpiece 20 with minimal effort.
