Definitions
- the invention relates to a headrest connected to the backrest of a vehicle seat with a cushion segment which is variable in position relative to the main body of the headrest and which, in the event of an accident, can be shifted from the use position to the head of the seat occupant into a safety position and locked by means of a locking device in the position of use in the event of an accident is.
- a generic headrest for a motor vehicle seat is known from the published patent application DE 39 00495 A1.
- the headrest consists of a padded base body, which is connected to the backrest of the seat via downward-reaching handrails.
- a separate cushion element is arranged in a recess of the base body by means of a piston-cylinder arrangement or a swivel mechanism in such a way that it can be moved about a horizontal axis (Y axis) oriented transversely to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle.
- the cushion element is rotated under the action of a spring or a pneumatic or hydraulic volume-adjustable bellows from the comfortable position of use towards the head of the seat occupant into a safety position (support position) and mechanically acting locking device from locking lug and locking member locked in this position. Shortening the distance between the headrest and head creates an anti-whiplash effect, which prevents the upper spine from being overstretched in an accident situation.
- Such locking devices are structurally complex and can also not lock continuously. It can therefore not be excluded that the latching is not in a secure engagement in the support position.
- the invention has for its object to provide a generic locking device that allows a simple design, safe function and easy reset of the headrest after the accident situation.
- the fixing device comprises a telescope which is supported on the one hand on the base body and on the other hand is connected to the displaceable cushion segment, the restoring forces acting on the cushion element in one of the
- Telescopic axis deviating direction can be introduced into the telescope. Under the effect of the forces exerted by the head of the seat occupant on the upholstery element and introduced asymmetrically into the telescope, this braces and prevents an undesired shifting back of the upholstery element.
- a power transmission device acting on the telescope according to a first preferred embodiment of the invention advantageously has a bolt which connects a flange plate arranged at the end of the telescope in the direction of travel and the displaceable cushion segment eccentrically to the telescope axis. Even if the cushion element and the flange plate are aligned with one another for optical or structural reasons, the force transmission from the cushion element into the flange plate and thus into the telescope takes place off-center.
- the telescope (11) is arranged inclined to the horizontal (X direction of the vehicle).
- the inclination can be 10 ° to 45 °, preferably approximately 20 ° to 25 ° and, in conjunction with the largely horizontal restoring force caused by the head of the occupant in the support position, leads to a blocking of the telescope.
- Telescope basically encompasses any arrangement of components which are connected to one another and can be moved relative to one another via sliding guides and which, under an eccentric and / or obliquely applied counterforce, ensure self-locking against return.
- Such a telescope advantageously comprises a number of mutually displaceable, preferably annular tube sections which are pushed into one another in the use position and are pulled apart when the safety position is taken up.
- Such a telescope tends to be braced even with surface roughness of the pipe surface that is customary in production, when it is loaded eccentrically or obliquely. This effect can be reinforced with little effort by a targeted structuring of the pipes, for example by introducing circular recesses (machining on the lathe).
- the pipe sections do not necessarily have to have a cylindrical shape. If the upholstery segment is not to perform a linear displacement but an arcuate movement, the telescope and the associated tube sections that can move into one another can also be designed in accordance with a torus segment. In this case, the telescope axis would run in an arc. In terms of production, the use of a linearly variable telescope is preferred.
- the force generating device required to extend the cushion element preferably comprises one or more compression springs biased in the use position, with which in particular a displacement force acting centrally to the telescope axis and not tensioning the telescope can be generated.
- the arrangement of a single compression spring, which surrounds the telescope coaxially to the telescope axis, is particularly favorable.
- any other form of energy storage device can be used, for example tension springs, compressed air storage systems or pyrotechnic devices.
- a return force (FRH) acting centrally to the telescopic axis (X) can be applied to the end of the telescope (11) facing the cushion element (9).
- FH return force acting centrally to the telescopic axis (X)
- This can be generated, for example, by a probe which is guided through the center of the telescope from the rear of the headrest and which is temporarily connected to the relevant end of the telescope and then withdrawn until the cushion element is locked in the use position with renewed prestressing of the force generating device.
- the headrest be attached by means of Handrails are preferably connected to the backrest in a continuously adjustable height. It is further proposed that the headrest is preferably connected to the backrest in a continuously adjustable manner about an axis of rotation.
- Fig. 1 shows an inventive headrest in the use position
- Fig. 3 shows another headrest according to the invention in the safety position
- the headrest shown in Figures 1 and 2 consists of a base body 1, which includes a padding 2 and a metallic support element 3 connected thereto.
- the plate-shaped, essentially vertically aligned support element 3 is connected to the backrest 5 via holding rods 4 and can be locked in a continuously adjustable joint 6 to improve comfort in various inclinations.
- the height of the headrest can also be adapted to the size of the seat occupant by means of a likewise continuously adjustable and lockable linear guide 7.
- the base body 1 On the front side, that is to say the side facing the seat occupant, the base body 1 has a cuboid recess 8 in which a cushion segment 9 is arranged so as to be longitudinally displaceable in the direction of the head 10 of the seat occupant.
- a tubular telescope 11 is arranged on the front side of the carrier element 3 and comprises a number of tube sections 12 which are longitudinally displaceable one inside the other in the direction of the telescope axis X.
- the telescope is aligned centrally to the center of the carrier element 3 and, at its forwardly projecting free end, is connected centrally to a flange plate 13 arranged parallel to the carrier element 3. This in turn is aligned with the displaceable cushion segment 9 and is rigidly connected to it by means of a bolt-like force transmission device 14 aligned eccentrically to the telescope axis X.
- a compression spring 15 which surrounds the telescope 11 coaxially to the telescope axis X. This is supported on the one hand on the carrier element 3 and on the other hand on the flange plate 13 and can be determined by means of a locking device, not shown, under pretension (FIG. 1). In this position (position of use), the cushion segment 9 is at a relatively large distance from the head 10 of the seat occupant.
- the cushion segment for taking the safety position is displaced in the direction of the head 10 by the relaxing compression spring 15.
- the tube sections slide apart as a result of the spring force FF generated by the compression spring and acting forward to the center of the telescopic axis X until the cushion segment assumes an end position defined by a stop (not shown).
- the head 10 of the seat occupant striking the cushion element in the course of the accident generates a rearward restoring force F, under the effect of which an undesired shifting back of the cushion segment 9 could occur.
- the restoring force F is introduced from the cushion segment 9 by means of the eccentrically arranged force transmission device 14 via the flange plate 13 (restoring force FR 2 ) into the telescope 11.
- the tube segments 12 of the telescope 11 tilt under this load in such a way that a further pushing into one another and thus a backward displacement of the cushion segment 3 is prevented when the head 10 strikes.
- the cushion segment 9 can be returned to the use position by inserting a probe into the recess 8 from the rear of the headrest through a bore 16 running coaxially to the telescopic axis X and connecting it centrally to the flange plate 13, for example by screwing it in in a corresponding thread.
- the probe return force F RH
- the tube segments 12 of the telescope 11 are pushed into one another and locked under prestress of the compression spring 15, so that the headrest is again in its starting position.
- the cushion segment 9 can be displaced obliquely upwards from the position of use relative to the base body 1 into the safety position shown, so that it is not only in the direction of travel (-X direction) but also in height (+ Z direction). This kinematics takes into account the experience that head restraints are often set lower by the occupant to optimize comfort than is necessary for safety reasons.
- the telescope 11 is fastened on the one hand to the vertically aligned support element 3 via a first beveled trestle 17, on the other hand connected to the upholstery segment 9 by means of an oppositely beveled second trestle 18 and inclined upward in the direction of travel relative to the horizontal by an angle ⁇ of 25 °.
- Boundary surfaces of the recess 8 and the part of the cushion segment 9 projecting into it have a contour oriented parallel to the telescopic axis X in order to enable the desired displacement.
- the restoring force FRI exerted by the head 10 of the seat occupant when it hits the cushion segment is introduced obliquely into the telescope 11 relative to the inclined telescopic axis X.
- a telescope consisting of deep-drawn tubular sections made of sheet steel, which are fitted into one another with a slight clearance fit (maximum diameter difference 50 ⁇ )
- there is sufficient inhibition in the telescope 11 due to the introduction of force at an angle of 25 ° with respect to the telescope axis X.
- the required inclination (as well as the eccentricity to be provided in the design described at the beginning) can be calculated according to the usual rules of mechanical engineering. Of course, it is also possible to combine an inclination with an eccentric application of force.
