Definitions
- the invention relates to a recessed electrical connector and the method of mounting such an electrical connector.
- the invention relates to more particularly the field of electrical connectors but could also apply in other areas.
- An electrical connector generally has a body and a insert.
- the insert is generally made of plastic while being intended for wear electrical contacts.
- the body is usually made of metal material or composite materials.
- the body can be hollowed out with a hole delimiting a wall and the insert is intended to be housed in the orifice by sliding along the wall of the body longitudinally with respect to an axis of the connector.
- This wall defines a shoulder against which is intended to rest the insert.
- the disadvantage of this collage assembly is that the glue can disrupt the different electrical connections between the body and the insert. Or well the glue can also disturb the electrical connections of electrical contacts between them.
- a stop ring can be positioned in a groove dug at a location on one surface of the insert while protruding from the surface of the insert.
- This stop ring is made in such a way that it is intended to come place in a corresponding groove dug in the wall of the orifice of the body during the sliding of the insert in the orifice of the body.
- the insert can then be kept in the body.
- it can happen a break of the stop ring due to possible efforts of pulling or twisting of the insert relative to the body.
- the stop ring thus broken may no longer retain the insert in the body or at least be the cause of a bad connection between the insert and the body or electrical contacts between them.
- the invention provides for making an insert comprising at least one elastic embedding means intended to be position in a groove dug into the body wall, which throat being made in such a way that it delimits a surface portion chamfered.
- This insert and the body can then cooperate in such a way that when inserting the insert into the orifice of the body, the insert comes into support against the shoulder and against the chamfered surface portion of the groove longitudinally with respect to the axis of the connector.
- the throat is made in such a way that the insert fits firmly and without gaps in the body, regardless of the different dimensions of the insert and the body of the makes manufacturing tolerances.
- the chamfered surface portion is intended to receive in support the embedding means so that the insert can be positioned by longitudinal adjustment relative to the body and relative to the axis of the connector bearing against the shoulder and against the chamfer, when inserting the insert into the body.
- the elastic embedding means can form a retractable tongue formed at a location on a surface of the insert.
- the place the chamfer against which is intended to rest the tongue varies from one insert to another and / or from one body to another.
- the chamfer extends over a sufficient length for the insert to bear against the shoulder and against this same portion of chamfered surface whatever the different dimensions of the body and insert resulting from the tolerances of fabrications.
- the retractable tongue is intended to be positioned against this chamfer while adjusting by sliding on this portion of surface chamfered in such a way that the insert is placed against the shoulder and against this chamfer.
- the tongue can form to its end a beveled end, which beveled end is intended to come in support in correspondence against the chamfer of the throat.
- This beveled end allows a slight slip of the clip against the chamfer to adjust the position of the insert relative to the body.
- This end beveled also makes it possible to increase a bearing surface of the tongue against the chamfer between the beveled end of the tongue and the chamfered portion.
- Such a connector according to the invention has the advantage of no longer , require the use of glue to maintain the insert in the body.
- the subject of the invention is therefore an electrical connector according to the features of claim 1.
- the invention also relates to a method of mounting a electrical connector according to the features of claim 8.
- FIG. 1 illustrates an electrical connector 1 comprising a body 2 and an insert 3 according to the invention.
- the body 2 is hollowed out with a hole 6 delimiting a wall 7.
- the wall 7 forms a shoulder 5 against which is intended to press the insert 3 longitudinally with respect to an axis 9 of the connector.
- the body 2 has an inlet 15 and an outlet 8 longitudinally through relative to the axis 9 of the connector.
- the insert 3 is intended to fit into the orifice 6 of the body 2 while sliding longitudinally with respect to the axis 9 of the connector and along the wall 7 of the body 2.
- the insert 3 is provided with at least one means elastic recess 10 for insertion into a groove 4 dug in the wall 7 of the body 2.
- the elastic embedding means 10 is more particularly intended to be placed in the throat 4 to prevent insert 3 out of the orifice 6.
- the groove 4 is performed at a location near the input 15 of the connector while the shoulder 8 is located at a place remote from the entrance 15.
- the embedding means 10 prevents the insert 3 from coming out through the inlet 15.
- the insert 3 is intended to bear against the shoulder 5.
- the groove 4 is made in such a way that it forms a portion of chamfered surface 14.
- This chamfered surface portion 14 or chamfer is placed at a place in the throat 4 closest to entrance 15 of the connector.
- the insert 3 and the body 2 can thus cooperate in such a way that the insert 3 is intended to be placed in abutment against the shoulder 5 of the body 2 and against the chamfered surface portion 14 during the insertion of the insert 3 in the body 2 longitudinally with respect to the axis 9 of the connector 1.
- the insert 3 is intended to be placed in abutment against the portion of chamfered surface 14 during insertion of the insert 3 into the body 2 through the embedding means 10, which means recessing being intended to cooperate with this same portion of chamfered surface 14.
- the insert 3 and the body 2 can thus cooperate with such that the insert 3 is fixed without gaps in the orifice 6 of the body 2 according to a longitudinal direction relative to the axis 9 of the connector. Insert 3 and the body 2 can thus cooperate in such a way that it is no longer necessary to use glue to maintain the insert 3 in the body 2.
- the embedding means 10 may form a retractable tongue 10 made from a surface 11 of the insert 3.
- the insert 3 is delimited by a surface 11 through which the insert 3 is intended to come place in front of the wall 7 of the body.
- This tongue 10 is made of such that it is born from the surface 11 of the insert 3.
- the tongue retractable 10 is intended to fall back into a recess 12 provided for this effect, which recess 12 results from the formation of the tongue 3.
- This recess 12 and the tongue 10 are made at a location on the surface 11 of the insert 3 intended to be placed opposite the groove 4.
- the insert 3 is made of a plastic material or any other materials in such a way that it is possible to dig from a place of the surface 2 of the insert 3 the tongue 10.
- the tongue 10 is partially annular.
- the tongue 10 is made in such a way that it extends over a portion of an outline 19 delimited by the insert 3.
- Several tongues such 10 can be formed on the contour 19 of the insert 3. In one example 2, three tabs such as 10 are formed on the contour 19 of FIG. the insert 3.
- the tongue 10 can also be made in such a way that is likely to retract into the recess 12 during the sliding of the insert 3 along the wall 7 of the body 2.
- the tongue 10 is also made in such a way that it is intended to be extracted from recess 12 while deviating from the connection axis 9 when the tongue 10 is located outside the orifice 6 of the body 2 or when this same tongue is located next to the groove 4 of the body 2.
- the tongue 10 is made in such a way that it is intended for position in support against the chamfered surface portion 14 of the throat 4.
- the chamfered surface portion 14 is formed on a length 16 sufficient to allow the tongue 10 to bear against this chamfered surface 14 regardless of the different dimensions of the insert 3 and the body 2 because of manufacturing tolerances generally admitted.
- the length 16 is measured longitudinally with respect to the axis 9 of the connector.
- the groove 4 is at least hollowed out in the wall 7 so as to allow the tongue 10 to come and stay there while taking into account dimensional variations from one body 2 to another and / or from an insert 3 to a other because of manufacturing tolerances allowed to make insert 3 and the body 2.
- the groove 4 is at least partially annular.
- the throat 4 can be excavated on a totality of a perimeter 17 delimited by the wall 7, to form a peripheral groove as shown in dashed lines in FIG.
- the groove 4 can be dug on at least a part of the perimeter 17 to obtain a single groove 4 or several grooves such as 4. In the example in FIG. 2, three grooves such as 4 are formed from the wall 7.
- the embedding means 10 is then formed in such a way that fits in the groove (s) 4.
- the means the recess 10 would then form at least one tongue 10 for fit into one of these grooves 4.
- the embedding means 10 can to form as many tongues as grooves such as 4.
- the forming at least one throat on a portion of the perimeter 17 of the body intended to receive at least one tongue 10 in correspondence makes it possible to limit a possible rotational movement of the insert 3 on itself around of the axis 9 of the connector and relative to the body 2.
- the groove 4 can be formed on a width 18 of such way that the tongue 10 can fit in correspondence in this same groove 4, figure 2.
- the width 18 of the groove 4 is measured longitudinally relative to the perimeter 17 of the wall 7.
- the insert 3 and the body 2 can cooperate not only in such a way that the insert 3 is fixed without play in the body 2 in a longitudinal direction relative to the axis 9 of the connector. But also, insert 3 and body 2 can also cooperate in such a way that the insert 3 is fixed without play by relative to the body 2 in a direction of rotation about the axis 9 of the connector and perpendicular to the same axis 9 of the connector.
- the insert 3 and the body 2 comprise a cylindrical shape.
- the body 2 has a circular cylindrical shape intended to receive an insert of corresponding shape.
- the insert 3 and the body 2 could have a rectangular cylindrical shape.
- the tongue 10 may comprise an end 13 forming a beveled end 13.
- This beveled end 13 is intended to come place in correspondence against the chamfer 14 to cooperate with this same chamfer.
- This end 13 and bevelled increases a bearing surface of the insert against the chamfer 14.
- This beveled end 13 is capable of sliding against a corresponding surface of the chamfer 14 so as to adapt the position of the insert 3 relative to the body in function of the different dimensions of an insert to another and / or a body to another.
- the tongue 10 makes it possible to absorb these differences in dimensions.
- the tongue 10 can oscillate between several positions. In particular, the tongue 10 can oscillate between a first position and a second position.
- a first position of the tongue is shown in phantom full figure 1 and a second position of the tongue is shown in dashed lines on this same figure 1.
- the tapered end 13 may pass from a first position to a second position by sliding this same end 13 along the chamfered surface 14 and by displacement of the insert longitudinally with respect to the axis 9 of the connector.
- a sliding of a surface 13 'formed by the tapered end 13 of the tongue parallel against the chamfered surface 14 of the throat allows to absorb any gaps between the insert and the body, figure 1.
- the surface 13 'formed by bevelled end 13 slides along the surface chamfered 14 so that the insert comes into contact with the shoulder formed by the wall of the body during this sliding.
- the tongue 10 can also be made in such a way that is likely to bend against the chamfer 14.
- the tongue 10 can be likely to be bent when exercising a traction force of the insert 3 inserted into the body 2 towards the inlet 15 longitudinally relative to the axis 9 of the connector.
- the method of mounting such an electrical connector is made of in such a way that an assembly without play of the insert 3 is obtained in the orifice 6 of the body 2 at least in a longitudinal direction relative to the axis 9 of the connector, FIGS. 3a and 3b.
- the method of mounting the connector according to the invention is made in such a way that the insert 3 is inserted into an orifice while resisting a pulling force of the same insert 3 at least greater than or equal to a force necessary for tearing off an insert 3 which would be retained in the orifice 6 by glue. Inserting insert 3 in the orifice 6 is made in such a way that it is possible to get rid of the use of glue.
- the method of mounting such an electrical connector is realized from the following way.
- the insert 3 is slidably inserted along the wall 7 of the body 2 until the insert is positioned against the shoulder 8 and until the tongue 10 is positioned in the groove 4.
- the tongue 10 is first forced to retract into the recess 12 while squeezing himself against the surface 11 of the insert 3, Figure 3a.
- the tongue 10 is intended to be released from the recess 12 at the moment when the tongue 10 is placed in look at the throat 4, figure 3b.
- the tongue 10 is released from the recess 12 while moving away from the axis 9 of the connector to get lodged in the throat 4.
- the tongue 10 allows the insert 3 to be retained in the body 2 by preventing the insert 3 out through the input 15 of this same body 2. More specifically, the tongue 10 is intended to come into support against the chamfer 14 of the groove 4.
- the insert 3 In the case where the groove 4 is dug on a part of the perimeter 17 or in the case where several gorges are dug on the perimeter 17, it is possible to possibly turn the insert 3 around the axis 9 of the connector in order to allow the corresponding tongue (s) to come to lodge in the corresponding throat (s).
