Abstract

The applicator for applying a product (P) on eyelashes or eyebrows comprises a rod (4) having one end (4a) extending in a longitudinal direction (X) and to which a brush (5) is fixed. The brush comprises a core (10) from a portion of which bristles (11) extend.

Description

The present invention relates to applicators intended for the application of a product on keratin fibers, especially eyelashes or eyebrows.

The invention relates more particularly to an applicator comprising a rod having one end extending along a longitudinal axis and a brush attached to the end of the rod, this brush comprising a core and bristles extending from a portion of the soul carrying the hairs.

The invention particularly relates to an applicator in which the core does not does not extend entirely in the axis of the rod.

We know many applicators of this type.

In particular, French patent application FR 2 798 267 describes a applicator in which the brush makes an angle with the rod to allow its end free to take product from the walls of the container containing the product to be applied. In such an applicator, the angle formed with the longitudinal axis of the rod by the portion of the soul carrying the hairs when the latter is rectilinear, or by the tangent to the soul at its distal end when it is curved, is relatively large.

We know other applicators having brushes with non-rectilinear cores by French patent application FR 2 749 490 as well as by patent applications European EP 0 832 580, EP 1 236 419, EP 1 236 420 and EP 1 236 421.

In some applicators, the end adjacent to the brush rod of the portion of the core carrying the hairs makes a relatively large angle, for example greater than 30 °, with the longitudinal axis of the rod. With such a large angle, the brush cannot be used by women without first identifying the orientation of the soul, this which complicates the gesture of makeup.

The invention aims to further improve the applicators intended for make-up eyelashes and eyebrows in particular.

The invention achieves this thanks to an applicator which can be characterized, according to one of its aspects, by the fact that it comprises an applicator for applying a product to keratin fibers, and in particular the eyelashes or the eyebrows, comprising:

• a rod having one end extending along a longitudinal axis,
• a brush attached to the end of the rod, this brush comprising:
  • a soul, and
  • bristles extending from a portion of the core carrying the bristles, said portion carrying the bristles making at any point a non-zero angle with the longitudinal axis of the end of the rod, less than 20 °.

The bristles have free ends which define an envelope surface of cross section which can be non-circular at at least one point.

The portion of the core carrying the bristles may be straight.

Thanks to the invention, there is an applicator in which the angle formed by the brush and stem is relatively small, and can be used by women without prior identification of the orientation of the core around the axis of the rod, therefore of a applicator which can be used if necessary with substantially the same gesture as the conventional applicators, in which the core extends entirely rectilinearly in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the end of the rod.

In addition, the invention allows, when the cross section of the surface envelope is non-circular in at least one point, to benefit from the advantages linked to the presence on the one hand, of a core not extending entirely in alignment with the axis longitudinal of the end of the rod, and on the other hand, of an envelope section surface non-circular cross-section.

In particular, the brush can be produced with at least one crest longitudinal which, combined with the inclination of the core, can make it possible to obtain a better penetration of the bristles of the brush inside the eyelashes, so that combing and the curling of the eyelashes can be facilitated and improved.

In addition, it is possible by rotating the applicator around the axis of the rod during application, producing an oscillation of the brush which further improves the taking care of the eyelashes by the bristles of the brush.

The portion of the core which carries the hairs can make an angle with the axis longitudinal of the end of the rod which is less than 20 °, in particular less than 15 ° and better less than or equal to 10 °, being for example close to 8 °. The angle formed by the portion of the core carrying the bristles with the longitudinal axis of the end of the rod may in particular be between 0.2 ° and 20 °, preferably between 0.5 ° and 15 ° and better between 1 °, even 5 °, and 10 °.

The core can be substantially rectilinear at least along the bearing portion hairs. When the core is not straight, the angle at a point of the core with the axis longitudinal of the end of the rod is given by the tangent to the longitudinal axis of the core at this point.

The distance from the end opposite the rod to the portion of the bearing core the hairs and the longitudinal axis X of the end of the rod depends on the length of the brush. In particular embodiments, this distance can be less than 7.5 mm, or even less than 4.5 mm for example, for example of the order of 3 mm.

The longitudinal axis of the portion of the core carrying the bristles may extend in a plane also containing the longitudinal axis of the end of the rod. The brush can have an envelope surface having an oblong cross section, of major axis perpendicular to the above-mentioned plane. The aforementioned cross section can be of shape lenticular, for example.

The brush may also have, for example, at least one face or facet perpendicular to said plane.

The longitudinal axis of the portion of the core carrying the bristles may extend any integer on the same side of a plane containing the longitudinal axis of the end of the rod. The end of said portion, opposite the rod, may constitute the point of said portion the further from the longitudinal axis of the rod.

The brush may have at least one longitudinal crest, and in one example non-limiting, the brush may have between two and eight crests, for example.

The brush may have at least one flat or concave face or facet. The brush may also have at least one convex face or facet, in particular with a radius of curvature, when the brush is observed in cross section, greater than the length of the longest hair extending from the core to this face or facet in this section.

The core can comprise at least two twisted strands, in particular two strands of twisted metal, which can come from the pin bending of a metal wire.

The strands can be twisted with a step to the left, or alternatively with a not right.

The envelope surface may be of constant cross section over the major part or even the entire length of the portion of the core carrying the bristles.

The envelope surface may also have at least a portion whose cross section transverse varies, for example homothetically.

The cross section of the envelope surface, at at least one point of the core, may for example have a general shape chosen from the following list: polygonal, in particular triangular, square, pentagonal, hexagonal, oblong, in particular oval, lenticular, star-shaped, in particular with between three and six branches, or generally in the form of keyhole.

For at least one cross section of the envelope, the core can define a center of symmetry of this section. The soul can also be offset at at least one point the length of the brush.

The applicator may include at least two bristles of different diameters.

The applicator may include at least one bristle made of a material elastic, in particular an elastomer.

The applicator may comprise at least one bristle comprising a compound, for example particular or other example, making it possible to improve the sliding of the hair on the fibers keratinous, or on the contrary intended to create a surface roughness and to increase the attachment of fibers.

The applicator may include a mixture of bristles.

The applicator may include at least one hair having at least one wavy, and may in particular comprise at least two bristles each comprising at at least one periodic pattern having at least one undulation, at least two patterns being different. The two periodic patterns can belong to two hairs distinct or with the same hair, and the undulations can have different shapes, for example a sawtooth shape or a sinusoid shape, or even different amplitudes, or ripples of different spatial frequencies. The expression “periodic pattern” designates, within a pile, a part of it which is reproduced appreciably, periodically, along the hair.

The applicator may include bristles made other than by molding by injection with the core, and the brush may comprise at least a portion comprising curved hairs extending oriented from the core. By "extending so oriented ", it should be understood that the curved hairs extend with an orientation general which is defined during the manufacture of the brush and not with an orientation totally random. The hairs can in particular be oriented in the same direction circumferential around the soul. Brush bristles can be curved by contact with a hot surface, in particular a surface in relative motion with respect to the brush. The surface can in particular be preferably defined by a material having relatively low thermal conductivity, especially silicone, polymer fluorinated, in particular a polytetrafuoroethylene, or a mineral material other than a metal, especially graphite.

The applicator may include a twisted core defining turns, the bristles being caught between the turns of the brush, the brush comprising at least two deformed bristles caught between two adjacent turns, these hairs having a removal of material or a crushing at at least one point along their length and extending non-radially towards the outside from this point. Each deformed hair can have two portions straight forming an elbow between them. The two straight portions can have the same cross section. All distorted hairs can define elbows all located substantially the same distance from the core.

The applicator may for example have between 5 and 80 bristles per turn, in particular between 10 and 50 hairs per turns. The brush can also have between 5 and 20 hairs per turn only. The number of hairs per turn corresponds to the number hair ends counted by a fixed observer during a 180 ° rotation brush around his soul.

The applicator may include twisted bristles.

According to a nonlimiting aspect of the invention, the rod is connected to a member gripping. The latter can be arranged so as to seal a container containing the product to be applied, which may be provided with a wiping member.

This device may further comprise a wringer arranged so as to wring the brush out of the container.

FIG. 1 shows a packaging and application device comprising a container 2 containing a product P to be applied to the eyelashes or the eyebrows, by example of mascara, and an applicator 3 comprising a rod 4 of cross section circular, fitted at one end 4a with a brush 5 and connected at the other end to a gripping member 6 also constituting a closure cap for the container 2. The latter is equipped with a wiper member 7, for example constituted by a piece of elastomer inserted into the neck 8 of the container. Of course, other types of wipers can be used.

The rod 4 has in the example considered a rectilinear longitudinal axis X, which coincides with the axis of the neck 8 of the container 2 when the applicator is in place thereon.

The gripping member 6 is arranged to seal the container 2 at the end of its screwing on the neck 8, in a manner known per se.

The wiper member 7 comprises, in the example illustrated, an orifice 9 of circular section, the diameter of which corresponds substantially to that of the rod 4.

The brush 5 comprises a core 10 formed by two twisted metal strands, this core 10 being fixed at one end in a housing of the rod 4, being for example forced into this housing.

If we refer to Figure 2, we see that the core 10 has a portion 12 which carries bristles 11, the latter being held by clamping between the twisted strands of the core 10 and extending substantially radially from the core 10, so conventional.

In the example considered, the portion 12 of the core 10 has an axis longitudinal Y which is straight and which forms at least at its end 12a adjacent to the rod 4 an angle α with the longitudinal axis X.

In Figure 2, there is shown by a broken line the envelope E defined by the free ends of the bristles 11 of the brush 5.

It can be seen on examining FIG. 1 that the brush 5 may not come in contact with the wall of the container 2 when the applicator is in place. Of course, we does not depart from the scope of the present invention when the container 2 has dimensions such that the brush 5 comes into contact with its wall.

In the example considered, the core 10 carries bristles 11 on substantially the the entire length of its portion which extends outside the rod 4.

The portion 12 has a distal portion 13 which extends from the middle M of its length, up to the free end of the brush.

The angle α is in the example shown sufficiently small, being for example close to 8 °, so that the X axis cuts the envelope of this distal part 13 at a point A.

The distance d between the X axis and the Y axis at the free end 12b of the brush is for example less than 4.5 mm, being for example close to 3 mm. Of course, the distance d depends on the length of the brush and can be greater than 4.5 mm without it is beyond the scope of the present invention. The distance from the middle M of the portion 12 to the X axis is less than the distance d.

The longitudinal axis Y of the portion 12 extends entirely on the same side of a plane R containing the X axis and perpendicular to the plane of Figure 2, the Y axis extending in the plan of this figure.

The envelope surface E of the brush may have a cross section, in at least one point of its length, which is non-circular, this cross section being by prismatic example in the example considered, as can be seen in Figure 3.

More particularly, in this example, the brush is of cross section substantially triangular, defining three longitudinal ridges 15 and three faces 16 substantially flat extending between the ridges. Generally speaking, the brush can present a cross section constant or not over most of its length, even over its entire length.

In the example of Figures 1 and 2, the cross section of the brush decreases towards its free end in a substantially homothetic manner, retaining a triangular shape. The ridges 15 are substantially circumscribed on a conical surface Y-axis.

To make the brush 5, one can for example start from a blank cylindrical envelope of revolution around the axis Y of the core, the blank being straight coaxial with the longitudinal axis X of the rod 4, then the brush 5 is machined for it give a conical shape converging towards its free end and we cut the three faces 16; finally we bend the core 10 at its exit from the rod 4 to give it the inclination α desired.

To make up, the user unscrews the applicator and extracts the brush 5 from the container 2, the latter being wrung out when it passes through the wiping member 7. Taking into account the small value of the angle α, which is for example less than 10 °, the user can use of the applicator 3 without first having to locate the orientation of the core 10 around the X axis during application of the product and combing of the eyelashes.

The user can, if necessary, slightly rotate the brush 5 on itself around the X axis. During makeup, the ridges 15 can act like a comb to separate the eyelashes likely to be stuck with an excess of product in certain places. This combing effect can be facilitated in particular when the circumferential dimension ridges 15 is less than or equal to 2 mm for example. The inclination α of the core allows a gradual change of orientation of the edges of the brush during its rotation around the axis X of the stem, which can favor combing and curling of the eyelashes by allowing better penetration of the bristles of the brush inside the eyelashes.

Of course, you can make various modifications to the applicator and in particular by brush without departing from the scope of the present invention.

One can in particular give to the brush various cross sections, for square example as illustrated in figure 4, pentagonal or hexagonal as shown respectively in Figures 5 and 6.

The brush may also, for example, have a section envelope surface circular transverse with at least one flat 28, as illustrated in FIG. 7, with at at least one concave side 29 as illustrated in FIG. 8, or with at least one side 30 convex, as illustrated in figure 9.

In this last figure, we see that the brush can have a surface envelope of oblong cross section, in particular lenticular, of large Z axis and small axis W.

FIGS. 10 and 11 show a brush 5 having a surface envelope of lenticular cross section, observed along the major axis Z in the figure 10 and along the minor axis W in FIG. 11.

Of course, the soul could be bent otherwise without leaving the framework of the present invention, and in particular the core could be bent around an axis geometric perpendicular to the axis which could have any orientation around this X axis.

The brush may also have an envelope surface of cross section forming notches 33, as illustrated in FIG. 12.

The core 10 can also be eccentric with respect to the cross section of the envelope surface at at least one point on the brush, as shown in Figure 13.

The brush may also have a cross-sectional envelope surface. in the general shape of a keyhole, comprising for example over most of its circumference of short hairs 34 and on the rest of its circumference hairs 35 more very long, as illustrated in Figure 14. Such a brush also forms notches.

It is not beyond the scope of the present invention when the surface envelopes is of substantially constant cross-section over most of the length of the portion 12 of the core carrying the bristles, as shown in FIG. 15.

Can be used in a brush made according to the invention all kinds of hair, and in particular hair having a cross section other than circular.

One can in particular use a mixture of hairs of different natures or a mixture of hairs of different lengths, of the same kind or not.

One can in particular use bristles having in cross section one shapes shown in Figures 16 to 33 schematically, for example a circular shape with a flat as shown in Figure 16, flattened as shown in figure 17, star-shaped, for example in the shape of a cross as illustrated in figure 18 or three branches as illustrated in Figure 19, of U as shown in Figure 20, of H as shown in Figure 21, from T as shown in Figure 22, from V as shown in Figure 23, a hollow shape, for example circular as shown in the Figure 24 or square as shown in Figure 25 forming ramifications, by example in the shape of a snowflake as illustrated in figure 26 a prismatic section, by triangular example as shown in figure 27 or square as shown in figure Figure 28 or hexagonal as shown in Figure 29 or an oblong shape, in particular lenticular as shown in Figure 30 or hourglass-shaped as shown in Figure 31. Bristles can be used having parts hinged together by compared to others, as shown in Figure 32.

It is also possible to use bristles having at least one capillary groove 36, as shown in Figure 33.

The bristles 11 which are retained between the twisted strands of the core can present, before positioning between the strands of the core, a rectilinear shape or not, by example a wavy shape as illustrated in figure 34.

The hairs can be subjected to a treatment aimed at forming at their ends balls 37 as illustrated in FIG. 35, or forks 38 as illustrated in FIG. 36.

Flocked bristles can be used as illustrated in Figure 37 or alternatively bristles produced by extruding a plastic material comprising a particle charge 39, for example particles of a material absorbing moisture, in order to confer a micro-relief on the surface of the hairs, as illustrated in Figure 38, or give them properties magnetic or other.

The bristles can also be made with a material having properties promoting sliding.

The bristles can be natural or synthetic and for example be made in a material chosen from: PE, PA, in particular PA6, PA6 / 6, PA6 / 10 or PA6 / 12, HYTREL®-PEBAX®, silicone, PU, this list is not exhaustive.

The strands of the core can be twisted left or right.

It is particularly advantageous to use a left-hand brush, such as this will be explained with reference to Figures 39 and 40.

In FIG. 39, the brush 5 is shown with a core twisted to the left and in FIG. 40, a core twisted to the right. We have diagrammed by dotted lines the path of layers N defined by the ends of the bristles, these layers forming an angle β with a plane perpendicular to the core. We can usefully refer to European patent EP 611,170.

The soul can also be a double soul, formed by two elementary souls twisted together, as shown in Figure 41. Each elementary core can have two strands twisted together and enclosing hairs. The two elementary souls may each consist of a branch of a single twisted core folded in U-shaped, the two branches being twisted together.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments which have just been described.

In the example illustrated in Figure 2, the portion 12 of the core which carries the bristles is rectilinear but it is not beyond the scope of the present invention when giving a slight curvature to the core.

Furthermore, in the example of FIG. 2, the free end of the portion 12 of the core which carries the hairs constitutes the point of this portion which is furthest from the axis X, but it could be otherwise.

The brush may have one or more notches possibly forming concave facets.

Throughout the description, including the claims, the expression "Comprising a" should be understood as being synonymous with "comprising at least a ”, unless otherwise specified.

Claims (29)

Applicator for applying a product (P) to the keratin fibers, and in particular the eyelashes or the eyebrows, comprising: a rod (4) having one end (4a) extending along a longitudinal axis (X), a brush (5) fixed to the end (4a) of the rod, this brush comprising: a soul (10), and bristles (11) extending from a portion (12) of the core carrying the bristles, said portion carrying the bristles making at any point a non-zero angle with the longitudinal axis (X) of the end of the rod, less than 20 °. Applicator according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the bristles have free ends which define an envelope surface (E) of non-circular cross section at at least one point of said portion (12). Applicator according to one of the two preceding claims, characterized in that the said portion (12) is substantially rectilinear.
