Description

The invention relates to a package for vegetables and in particular for asparagus, according to the preamble of the independent claim.

Various vegetables and especially asparagus are harvested in large quantities, stored and transported over long distances. For this purpose, a suitable packaging and possibly pretreatment is necessary. Some vegetables are wrapped in plastic film, others wrapped in a protective paper or similar.

FR 2'727'389 shows a package for vegetables, in particular asparagus, consisting of a foil, which is suitably wrapped around the vegetables. The film is moisture resistant, and may be water permeable or impermeable. EP-A-1044892 discloses a package according to the preamble of claim 1.
Asparagus are either packed loosely or bundled into trays or crates. For bundles of asparagus usually a paper container is used. Asparagus must be protected from daylight and from drying out. The lower part of the rod tends to dry out very quickly, which immediately reduces the quality significantly. After a short time discoloration and cracks occur in the rods. The use of said paper containers does not protect against this. Replacing the paper packaging with plastic films has not led to a better result in tests. It is known, however, that asparagus is best preserved at a relative humidity of 90-95% and protected from light at a temperature of 2 ° C.

The object of the invention is to provide a package which ensures this relative humidity during storage until sale.

This object is achieved by the invention according to independent claim.

In order to be able to use the new packaging from storage to transport to sale on the shop shelf, a container in the manner of a bag or bag is suitable. As long as it is not needed, it can be stored flat stacked with minimal space consumption. It is everted, that means with the inside outside. Before use, it is briefly held under running water, whereby its absorbent material absorbs and stores water. Then the bag is turned into use, as an outside to the outside and inside to the inside. Now the bag is opened up for use and a bunch of asparagus with the rods put down. When using this new packaging, the asparagus will stay fresh for a long time in an optimal climate and protected from drying out. The protection against light also reduces discoloration of the asparagus.

This is shown in FIG. 1 in a view. A number of asparagus 1 is bundled inserted into a packaging 2 according to the invention. The package 2 has a waterproof shell 21 in the form of a bag or bag, which also forms a pocket bottom 213. In the upper part of a closure 3 is present, which contracts the shell 21 slightly to keep the asparagus light. In this case, the sheath 21 may form a fold 210 which absorbs the pressure through the closure.

According to FIGS. 2 and 3, the empty shell 21 has a square or rectangular format. It is made of one piece and forms a front and rear shell side 214, 214 ', which together also form the bottom of the bag 213. Laterally, the surfaces of the shell 21 are connected to each other. This can be a welding or adhesive surface.

On the inside of the bag, the waterproof shell 21 is covered with an absorbent material 23. The absorbent material 23 is preferably made of cotton-like pulp material. Other materials may also be used which have the following properties: high fluid absorbency at low dead weight and small volume. The absorbent material 23 is soaked in water for use as asparagus packaging just prior to use. In order to avoid any leakage, the watertight casing 21 is turned downwards inwardly at the free upper edge and thus encloses the absorbent material in the edge region as casing 211.

On the inside of the bag is an osmotic membrane 22 as a cover resp. Delimitation of Absorbent Material 23. The osmotic membrane 22 may be a film used for food packaging. However, it must guarantee a gas and vapor exchange from the absorbent material 23 to the pickled asparagus, so that moisture in the form of water vapor from the sudable material can reach the packed asparagus.

Especially suitable are so-called MAP films (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) as membrane 22. These are films which allow a modified atmosphere by having an art-selective gas permeability. Thus, for example, in the region of the interior of the pocket, the CO2 content can be low, the O 2 content can be kept high, and the water vapor content can be kept constant. By storing packaged asparagus in such a way, the rods do not dry out and the microclimate around the asparagus remains optimized to prevent microbial and decaying infestation. The asparagons hardly discolour, do not suffer fading and do not crack during storage.

The embodiment of the absorbent material may also itself have a surface which fulfills the function of the membrane 22. It is then unnecessary to use a separate foil.

Even a dark color of the outer shell 21 improves storage. It prevents the ingress of light and thus the formation of chlorophyll and other light-induced changes in the asparagus.

The closure 3 may be a tab which is secured to the shell 31 and whose free tab end 32 can be fixed to the shell 21. Another possibility results from the use of a single or double drawstring 33 in the region of the hemstitched upper edge 212 of the pocket. With the closure 3 prevents an inserted Spargelbund slip out. But he is just so heavily involved that the asparagus are not pressed.

Of course, the inventive packaging can also be used for storage, packaging, transport of other vegetables and fruits. At best, the shape and size of the bag should be adapted to this purpose.
