Definitions
- the present invention relates to a printer for printing, preferably by thermal transfer, deformable flat supports, such as cards, in particular of plastic material, of the type comprising, from upstream to downstream, a feeder for the supports to be printed, able to cooperate with a motor output element of the charger supports of the type consisting of a cylinder in contact with the supports to be printed by means of a light provided in a wall of the charger, a printing device and means of transfer delimiting a succession of pinching zones forming a transport path for sequentially carrying the printed media from the output of the feeder to the printing device and from the printing device to means for collecting the printed media, said means for collection being arranged below the charger, as well as a charger for a printer of the aforementioned type.
- Printers for printing deformable flat supports are well known to those versed in this art. We can distinguish two main families of printers.
- the first family concerns printers in which the charger and the collection pack are arranged at opposite ends of the printer chassis.
- the second printer family relates to printers in which the collection device and the loader are arranged on the same side of the printer. This results in a smaller footprint of the printer.
- the support to be printed is introduced from the feeder into the first nipping zone of the transport path of the printer in a horizontal plane parallel to the transport plane. Once the support has been printed, this support is extracted from the first nip by means of transfer means housed inside the printer, then guided out of the printer to be transferred to the collection bin. Due to its design, the size, in particular in height, of the printer remains relatively large. Furthermore, the fact of deforming the support which has just been printed can be detrimental to the card at the output of the printer. Finally, the guide at the printer outlet which is carried out only by means of stationary guides proves in a certain number of cases not very effective.
- An object of the present invention is to provide a printer of a new type in which the design of the charger and of the transport path of the printer have been modified in order on the one hand to reduce the total size of the printer, on the other hand improve the guiding of the support to be printed during the phases of entry of the support inside the printer and exit of the support of this same printer.
- the subject of the invention is a printer for printing, preferably by thermal transfer, deformable flat supports, such as cards, in particular in plastic material, of the type comprising, from upstream to downstream, a charger for the supports to be printed, capable of cooperating with a motor element for outputting the supports of the charger of the type consisting of a cylinder in contact with the supports to be printed by through a light provided in a wall of the feeder, a printing device and transfer means delimiting a succession of pinching zones forming a transport path for sequentially carrying the printed media from the output of the feeder to printing device and from the printing device to means for collecting printed media, said collecting means being arranged below the feeder, characterized in that at least the part of the light wall of the feeder, positioned at the near the exit of the feeder, is inclined at a positive incidence with respect to the transport path to give the support to be printed, at the exit of the feeder , an inclination such as support and transport path form, in the vicinity of the entrance to the first nip zone of the transport path
- the invention also relates to a charger for a printer, characterized in that it has at least one inclined wall.
- Figure 1 shows a very schematic view partial view of a printer according to the invention
- FIGS. 2A to 2C represent partial schematic views of the path of the support 1 respectively between the charger outlet and the entry of the transport path and the charger outlet and deposits inside the collection means;
- FIG. 3 represents a partial schematic view of the loader and of the entry of the transport path in position prior to the entry of the support in said transport path;
- FIG. 4 shows a partial schematic view according to Figure 3 in the inserted position of the support 1 inside the transport path;
- FIG. 5 represents a perspective view of a cleaning cartridge incorporating a deflector according to the invention.
- FIG. 6 represents a rear perspective view of a charger according to the invention.
- the printer, object of the invention is more particularly intended for printing, preferably by thermal transfer, of supports 1 deformable planes, such as cards, in particular plastic.
- This printer comprises, from upstream to downstream, and in a manner known per se, a charger 2 of the supports 1 to be printed, capable of cooperating with an element 3 motor output of the supports 1 of the charger 2.
- This element 3 motor is constituted of a cylinder 3 in contact with the supports 1 to be printed by means of a light 4 formed in a wall 7 of the charger 2. Obviously, this cylinder is driven in rotation by a suitable motor. Downstream of this support, a printing device 9 is provided downstream of this support.
- Transfer means delimit a succession of pinching zones 8 forming a transport path 8A for sequentially carrying the printed media 1 from the outlet 5 of the feeder 2 to the printing device 9 and from the printing device 9 to means 10 for collecting the printed media 1.
- These collection means 10 consist of a tank arranged below the charger 2.
- the succession of these pinching zones 8 thus constitutes a path 8A for transporting the support 1.
- the feeder 1 and the tray 10 for collecting the media to be printed are arranged one above the other.
- at least the part of the wall 7 with light 4 of the charger 2 positioned in the vicinity of the outlet 5 of the charger 2 is inclined at positive incidence relative to the transport path 8A to give the support 1 to be printed, at the charger outlet 2, an inclination such as support 1 and transport path 8A form, in the vicinity of the entry of the first nip 8 of the transport path 8A, an obtuse angle. This position is more particularly shown in FIG. 3.
- the inlet of the first nip 8 of the transport path 8A is in turn provided with a deflector 11 oriented on the one hand towards the first nip 8 to bring the support 1 which strikes it in a tangential position in the first pinching zone 8 of the transport path 8A, on the other hand towards the collection receptacle 10 to allow evacuation by simple gravity of the support 1 printed in the receptacle 10 of collection.
- the angle of inclination of the part 7A of the wall 7 with light 4 of the charger 2, positioned in the vicinity of the output 5 of charger 2 is particularly important. If the angle of inclination is too high, it risks causing the support 1 to be jammed at the charger outlet during its cooperation with the deflector 11.
- the part 7A of the wall 7 with light 4 of the charger 2, positioned in the vicinity of the outlet 5 of the charger 2, forms, with the plane passing through the nip zones 8, an angle ⁇ included. in the range [12 - 20] degrees, preferably around 15 degrees.
- the part 7A of the wall 7 with light 4 of the charger 2, positioned in the vicinity of the outlet 5 of the charger 2, is extended in the direction of the inlet 6 for introducing the supports 1 into the charger 2 by a part 7B of the wall 7 of slope less than said first wall.
- This modification of the slopes makes it possible to delimit, at the level of the wall portion 7B 7, with the supports 1 housed in the charger 2, a funnel authorizing the manual introduction into the charger 2 of a support 1 to be printed to be treated in priority.
- the funnel delimited by cooperation of the support 1 and the wall part 7B, has been shown partially in dotted lines.
- the deflector 11 is itself made up of a ramp arranged immediately upstream of the first gripping zone 8. This ramp originates in or slightly below the plane passing through the pinching zones 8 and inclining in the direction of the collecting means 10, as illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4.
- This deflector 11, consisting of a ramp inclined, is laterally bordered by chamfers 12 of converging appearance towards the first pinching zone 8A, as illustrated in FIG. 5.
- chamfers 12 of input ensure centering of the support 1 before it enters the first pinch zone 8.
- This deflector 11 and possibly the chamfers 12, positioned upstream of the first pinching zone 8, can be coupled directly to the housing.
- the first gripping zone 8 consists of superposed parallel rollers 8B, 8C delimiting between them said gripping zone of the support 1.
- the upper roller 8C constituting a cleaning roller, press the support 1 against the lower rotary transport roller 8B to clean the support 1 parallel to its movement in the transport path 8A.
- This cleaning roller 8C is housed inside a cartridge 13 formed in one piece with the deflector 11. Said cartridge 13 is removably mounted on the printer.
- This cartridge 13, which takes the form of a box capable of accommodating at least one cleaning roller 8C, or even possibly two superimposed cleaning rollers as illustrated in the figures, has, in its front wall, a slot extending substantially parallel to the transport path, the lower edge of this slot constituting the deflector 11.
- this cartridge 13 The detailed production of this cartridge 13 will not be described in detail since it does not directly constitute the object of the invention.
- the presence of the deflector 11 and its positioning in particular make it possible to avoid any damage to the cleaning roller or respectively to the transport roller during the introduction of the card into the transport path.
- the output 5 of charger 2 in turn affects the shape of a slot as illustrated in FIG. 6.
- This slot is closed at least partially by means of a flap 16 formed by a flexible blade.
- This flap 16 prevents the simultaneous output of several supports 1 to be printed. Thanks to such cooperation of the active wall of the charger 1 and of the deflector 11, the support 1 first strikes the deflector, then deforms by curvature as illustrated in FIG. 2B so as to come to position tangentially to the nip zone 8. The support 1 is then driven in the transport path by simultaneous action of the cylinder 3 motor of the loader 1 and of the transport roller 8B cooperating in the production of the first nip zone.
- the card is easily driven within the transport path.
- the movement of this card is continued up to the printing device shown in FIG. 1.
- This printing device will not be described in detail since it is well known to those versed in this art.
- the support 1 is then brought back in the direction of the first nip to be extracted from the printer.
- This extraction operation is carried out in accordance with the schematic view represented in FIG. 2C. Due to the inclination of the bottom wall 7 of the loader, the positioning of the motor roller 4 acting on this loader 2 and the design of the deflector, the evacuation of the support 1 from the printer can be carried out freely simply by the action of the transport roller 8B cooperating in the constitution of the first pinching zone 8.
- a deflector 17 may be provided positioned between roller 4 motor and the plane passing through the transport path. This deflector makes it possible to avoid any damage to the cylinder 4 of the loader 2.
- the collecting means 10 consist of a tank 10, the bottom of which consists of an inclined wall, the orientation of this inclination being identical to that of the deflector 11. This inclination again facilitates the positioning of the support 1 in abutment against the upstream end of the receptacle 10.
