It is also within the reach of those skilled in the art to make other means of transmitting movement, increasing the rotation of the upper part before transmitting a movement to the mobile part, for example by using rods.

Description

The invention relates to a folder with two pockets, three parts, intended to ensure the automatic folding of documents to be placed in envelopes. A folder with two pockets allows you to fold a document in three, successively forming two folds. To form a fold, each pocket cooperates with three rollers. Each pocket has the form of a flat case comprising a stop at one end, and an orifice at an opposite end. The first two rollers ensure that the document is introduced and advanced into the pocket opening. The document collides with the stop, while the advance which is still printed on it causes the formation of a loop extending beyond the orifice of the pocket. This loop is taken and clamped by two rollers which then produce the desired fold and eject the document out of the pocket, through the same orifice.

US Patent 4,619,101 describes a first folder comprising two pockets arranged along the branches of a truncated V, with which is associated a set of four rollers, one of which is used for the two pockets. This folder comprises a frame in two parts articulated by a hinge, one part being said to be upper and the other part being said to be lower. A so-called upper pocket is located in the upper part while a so-called lower pocket is located in the lower part.

In such a folder, a jam can occur especially when several documents are to be folded simultaneously, and they have different dimensional characteristics. The user must be able to access each pocket to remedy a possible jam. To facilitate access, each pocket has a fixed plate and a movable plate. These two plates are coupled to each other by a hinge pin located at one end of the pocket. When the two parts are closed, the movable plate is parallel to the fixed plate, for each pocket. This first folder has a set of four rollers which is not disassembled when the folder is open. This set of rollers remains close to the opening of the lower pocket.

The hinge pin of the lower pocket is located near the pocket opening, near the roller assembly. The lower pocket therefore opens at its other end, located on the side of the hinge. The user therefore accesses in the direction which is the least convenient. The user must lift the movable plate with one hand, then, with his other hand, bypass all four rollers and the movable plate, to release a document jammed in the pocket. In this first known folder, each pocket has a stop whose position is not adjustable.

European patent application No. 0 352 694 describes a second folder also comprising two pockets arranged along the branches of a truncated V, with which is associated a set of four rollers, one of which is used for the two pockets. It also consists of a chassis in two parts articulated by a hinge, but the four rollers are disassembled when the two chassis parts are open. The pockets each have a fixed plate and a movable plate coupled by a hinge pin.

In this second folder, the axis of articulation of the lower pocket is located at the end which is opposite to that comprising the orifice. The lower pocket therefore opens on the side where the rollers are located. The user therefore accesses in the direction which is most convenient. Unfortunately, access in this direction is hampered by the presence of the rollers. Two of the four rollers are integral with the lower part. The other two rollers being integral with the upper part, they disappear when the folder is open, which reduces the discomfort caused by the rollers, but does not completely eliminate it. When the two chassis parts are open, a cable fixed to the lower part of the chassis pulls the movable plate from the upper pocket to open it, and a cable fixed to the upper part of the chassis pulls the mobile plate from the lower pocket to open it. open it. Each pocket is thus opened in the form of a corner, with an angle of the order of 30 °, the amplitude of pivoting of the movable plate being limited by the surrounding obstacles. A user can then remedy a jam by manually removing a document stuck in one of the pockets. The user can also adjust the stops defining the position of the folds to be produced on the document.

These two known folding machines have the disadvantage of fairly difficult access to the bottom of each pocket, near the axis of articulation, because the distance between the fixed plate and the movable plate decreases towards the axis of articulation. In the second known folder, access to the lower pocket is hampered by the presence of one of the rollers, and it is difficult to remedy this by increasing the pivoting angle of the movable plate of the lower pocket, because that its travel is limited by the size of neighboring parts.

The object of the invention is to propose a folder with two pockets allowing even easier access in the two pockets, in particular in the lower pocket.

The object of the invention is a folder with two pockets, as defined by claim 1.

Such a folder allows easy access into each pocket because the movable plate or second plate of each pocket is not linked to the fixed plate or first plate of this pocket by a hinge pin, but is independent by being supported by a mobile assembly which can be moved along a predetermined path. This mobile assembly can be freely arranged according to the ease of access which is desired. The trajectory can, in particular, be chosen such that any point on the movable plate of a pocket is brought to a distance greater than a fixed minimum value, relative to a homologous point on the fixed plate of this pocket. Thus, the spacing of the two plates of the pocket is not necessarily small at one end of the pocket, as is the case in a pocket having a hinge pin.

In particular, the movable plate of the lower pocket can be placed in a position almost parallel to that of the fixed plate to provide an access of substantially constant width to the bottom of the lower pocket, which is the most difficult pocket to access due to the presence of a roller at its entrance.

  • la figure 1 représente schématiquement un exemple de réalisation de la plieuse selon l'invention, lorsque les trois parties sont fermées, pour permettre le fonctionnement de la plieuse;
  • la figure 2 représente schématiquement la partie mobile que comporte cet exemple de réalisation;
The invention will be better understood and other characteristics will appear with the aid of the description below and the accompanying figures:
  • Figure 1 schematically shows an embodiment of the folder according to the invention, when the three parts are closed, to allow the operation of the folder;
  • FIG. 2 schematically represents the movable part that this exemplary embodiment includes;
  • FIG. 3 schematically represents this exemplary embodiment, when the three parts are open to allow access to the document path and in particular inside the two pockets.

In FIG. 1, the chassis of this exemplary embodiment is represented diagrammatically by a box surrounding the mechanism of the folder. This box is shown cut, to remove one of these faces to show the mechanism. This exemplary embodiment comprises a lower part 1 articulated with an upper part 2 by a hinge 10.

Le mécanisme comporte :

  • un ensemble de quatre rouleaux 24 à 27, le rouleau 26 tournant à une vitesse constante et entraînant les autres rouleaux;
  • une poche dite supérieure, située dans la partie supérieure 2, comportant : une plaque fixe ou première plaque 3, une plaque mobile ou seconde plaque 5, et une butée réglable 4;
The mechanism includes:
  • a set of four rollers 24 to 27, the roller 26 rotating at a constant speed and driving the other rollers;
  • a so-called upper pocket, located in the upper part 2, comprising: a fixed plate or first plate 3, a movable plate or second plate 5, and an adjustable stop 4;
  • a so-called lower pocket, located in the lower part 1, comprising: a fixed plate or first main plate 21, a movable plate or second plate 22, a small fixed plate 23 extending the movable plate 22, and an adjustable stop 20.

The movable plates 5 and 22 are integral with a movable part or assembly 30 which is fixed during the operation of the folder.

The operation of the folder is as follows:
A document to be folded is introduced between the rollers 26 and 27 along the path represented by the arrow 29. Under the action of the roller 26, the document advances inside the pocket formed by the plates 3 and 5, up to what the end of the document strikes the stop 4. The rotation of the rollers 26 and 27 continues to cause the document to advance, which then forms a loop extending beyond the orifice of the pocket. This loop is taken and clamped by the rollers 26 and 25 which then make a first fold and then eject the document towards the lower pocket formed by the plates 21 to 23.

Under the action of the roller 26, the document advances in the lower pocket until its end, constituted by the first fold, strikes the stop 20. The advance printed by the rollers 25 and 26 causes the formation of a loop protruding from the hole in the lower pocket. The loop is taken and clamped by the roller 24 and the roller 26 which then produce a second fold and eject the document along a path represented by the arrow 28. The stops 4 and 20 are adjustable, by a translation along each pocket, to choose the position of the first and second folds on the document.

  • la plaque mobile 5 de la poche supérieure, munie de sa butée réglable 4;
  • la plaque mobile 22 de la poche inférieure, munie de sa butée réglable 20;
Figure 2 shows the movable part 30, independently of the rest of the folding mechanism, for clarity. It involves :
  • the movable plate 5 of the upper pocket, provided with its adjustable stop 4;
  • the movable plate 22 of the lower pocket, provided with its adjustable stop 20;
  • two flanges 18, having a generally planar shape perpendicular to the plane of the plates 5 and 22.

A single flange is visible in Figure 2. The two flanges have similar shapes. The plates 5 and 22 form a fixed angle between them, which is of the order of 70 ° in this example and they are each fixed to the two flanges 18. This angle is equal to the angle made by the fixed plates 3 and 21 , when the three parts are closed, so that the movable plates 5 and 22 are respectively parallel to the fixed plates 3 and 21.

Each flange has a slide 14 consisting of an oblong lumen. Its outline is closed and includes: two parallel edges in the form of concentric arcs, and two ends 19 in the form of half-circumferences. One of these ends 19 is used as a stop during opening. Each flange further comprises a fixing point 15 for a spring and an ear 7 whose role will appear later. The ear 7 has a generally planar shape surrounding a rectangular lumen.

The diameter of the pins 13 and 16 is equal to the distance between the two edges of the light constituting the slide 14. Each slide 14 and the guide pins 13 and 16 impose a trajectory on the mobile part. Each flange is pulled towards the upper part 2 by a helical spring. Only one of these springs, referenced 9, is visible in FIG. 1. The spring 9 is fixed at point 15 of the flange 18 and at a fixing point 8 located on the upper part 2.

Cette position extrême détermine l'écartement des plaques 3 et 5 et l'écartement des plaques 21 et 22.A stop 6 is constituted by a cylindrical pin fixed to the upper part 2 and floating in the lumen of the ear 7. When the three parts 1, 2, 30 are closed, the spring 9 is in extension and it supports the flange 18 against the stop 6, the point of contact being one of the points at the edge of the lumen of the ear 7. The flange 18 being guided by the pins 13 and 16 according to a path predetermined by the shape of the slide 14, the stop 6 determines a first extreme position of the movable part 30, which corresponds to a closure of the two pockets. This extreme position determines the spacing of the plates 3 and 5 and the spacing of the plates 21 and 22.

In the event of a jam, the motor driving the roller 26 is stopped and the user opens the three parts 1, 2, 30, to access the path followed by the documents, and in particular to access the interior of the two pockets. When the upper part 2 is moved relative to the lower part 1, the mobile part 30 continues to press against the stop 6 while moving, since the spring 9 continues to pull on the mobile part 30. The stop 6 slides on the edge of the lumen of the ear 7. The movable part 30, retained by the stop 6, follows the path predetermined by the shape of the slide 14. In this example, the trajectory has the shape of an arc centered on a point 17. The latter is located outside the frame of the folder. Thus the trajectory has a small curvature and the movement of the movable part 30 is very similar to a translation. The plate 22 is almost parallel to the plate 21 when the lower pocket is open, which facilitates access to the bottom of this pocket.

In this example, the rotational movement of the upper part 2 around the hinge 10 is multiplied by a transmission system consisting of the stop 6 and the spring 9, so as to drive the movable part 30 in a rotational movement around the point 17 with a multiplied angle of rotation. Thus, the lower pocket opens without the upper pocket tends to close. On the contrary, it opens. To obtain this reduction in the movement of the upper part 2, the stop 6 is located at a distance from the hinge 10 which is less than the distance between the stop 6 and point 17, whatever the degree of opening.

As the opening progresses, the spring 9 expands and the movable part 30 is moved to a position further from the lower part 1. During this time, the upper part 2 moves away from the lower part 1, but it moves away faster than the mobile part 30, so that the relative displacement of the upper part 2 and the mobile part 30 increases the spacing between the fixed plate 3 and the mobile plate 5 of the upper pocket.

Figure 3 shows this embodiment at the end of the opening. The spring 9 is then almost completely relaxed. However, it is still sufficiently taut to bring the mobile part 30 to a stop defining a second extreme position on its trajectory. This extreme position is defined by the closed end 19 of the slide 14, which bears against the guide pin 16. When this stop 19 is reached, the stop 6 no longer presses on the flange 18. At the end of the opening movement, the upper part 2 has a position which is defined by a stop, not shown. It is applied against this stop by a jack comprising a spring. The position of the party upper 2 is then such that the stop 6 floats inside the lumen of the ear 7. The position of the movable part 30, defined by the stop 19 and by the position of the pin 16, is such that the movable plate 22 is widely separated from the plate 21, even at the end opposite to that where the paper accesses, and the plates 3 and 5 are also widely separated. It also appears that the movable plate 22 is very clear with respect to the nearest roller 25, to allow a user to pass his hand to the bottom of the lower pocket.

It is possible for a user to further increase the spacing of the movable plate 5, relative to the fixed plate 3, by pulling on the plate 5, which has the effect of stretching the spring 9 and removing a little more than the mobile part 30 of the upper part 2. This possibility is deliberately limited by means of the ear 7 which surrounds the stop 6 and which abuts on the latter if the user exerts too great a force on the plate 5.

It should be noted that if the point 17 is located at infinity, the trajectory of the mobile part 30 is then a translation. It is also conceivable to impose on the mobile part 30 a trajectory of more complex shape, in S for example, to optimize the spacing of the mobile plates with respect to the fixed plates in each of the pockets, in the open position; and to optimize the movement of the movable part 30 relative to obstacles constituted by other elements of the mechanism, during the opening. It is within the reach of those skilled in the art to determine a trajectory other than a circular trajectory, knowing: the position which each movable plate must occupy during closing, the desired position for each movable plate during opening, and the constraints imposed on the trajectory by the neighboring obstacles of the mobile part. It is also within the reach of those skilled in the art to make other means of transmitting movement, increasing the rotation of the upper part before transmitting a movement to the mobile part, for example by using rods.
