Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for processing side edges of sheet-shaped substrates, according to the preamble of claim 1, in particular for preparing a perfect binding.
  • the sheet-like substrates that make up the finished book or booklet at the end are first collected and aligned in a stack. This stack of sheet-shaped substrates is clamped so that slipping of the individual sheet-shaped substrates in the stack is possible excluded. Subsequently, one side of the stack of sheet-like substrates is first milled flat and then coated with a suitable adhesive. Suitable adhesives are various hot glues or cold glues, so-called dispersion glues in question. However, the type of adhesive is irrelevant to the present invention.
  • the adhesive usually has only a small contact surface with the sheet-shaped substrate to be fixed, since the adhesive can connect only with a straight side edge of the individual sheet-shaped substrates , This leads to a low pull-out strength of the sheet-like substrates in the finished product.
  • the quality of the perfect binding can be improved by increasing the surface of the side edge and thus the contact surface between the adhesive and the sheet-shaped printing material.
  • a further improvement of the adhesive bond can be achieved by the wetting of the side edge of the sheet-shaped substrate is improved by adhesive.
  • This can be done, for example, by exposing the paper fibers to the side edge of the sheet-like substrate, which ultimately provides for the mechanical anchoring of the sheet-like substrate in the adhesive.
  • This is an important requirement, in particular for coated papers, since even with these only the fiber content contributes to the strength, but the proportion of the coating can make up to half of the material here. Therefore, in many devices for processing side edges of sheet-like substrates in preparation for perfect binding, an additional scoring tool or other roughening tool is used to expose the paper fiber and improve anchoring between paper and adhesive.
  • Such a device is described for example in the Swiss patent CH 30 36 78 disclosed.
  • a first outer ring cutting tools for equalizing a book spine are mounted in an inner ring notching tools are provided for roughening the spine.
  • a passing book block is thereby first leveled by the cutting tools and then provided by the notching tools with arcuate, mutually crossing notches on the back.
  • a cutter disk rotates on a drive shaft, the cutter disk carrying cutting teeth along its circumference to trim the back edge of a stack of paper passed over it. Further, one or more upwardly directed cutting teeth are mounted on the cutter disk so that they can be positioned vertically. As a result, the cutting depth of the upwardly directed cutting teeth can be changed.
  • a rotary driven tool head is provided with circumferentially distributed external tools for machining the block spine, such as milling or trimming, and with tools arranged within the external tools for reworking the block spine, such as notches and roughening.
  • the device provides a stepwise height adjustment between the first tools and the second tools to change the cutting depth of the second tools.
  • brushes are also provided on the tool head, which eliminate the dust produced during the processing of the book block spine and resulting loose paper particles.
  • the device is an apparatus for processing along a direction moving side edges of arranged in a stack of sheet-shaped substrates in a sectional plane, which has a rotationally driven tool head with a fixed axis of rotation, wherein on the tool head substantially circular notch elements for the roughening of the side edges of the sheet-like printing materials are arranged and arranged around the substantially circular notch elements cutting elements for edging sheet-shaped substrates, the axis of rotation relative to the vertical on the cutting plane forms an acute angle ⁇ , so that the cutting elements only on one side of the Tool head come into contact with the side edges of the sheet-shaped substrates.
  • the side of the tool head is, in particular, the side leading in the direction of movement.
  • the cutting elements By virtue of the fact that the cutting elements only come into contact with the side edges of the sheet-like printing substrates on one side, the cutting forces occurring during machining can be reduced, which leads to a higher power of the cutting tool. By reducing the cutting forces fanning the stack of sheet-like substrates during processing can be prevented.
  • the angle ⁇ is set such that the notch elements dip twice in the cutting plane of the sheet-like substrates, the cutting elements, however, only once.
  • the notch elements in two different Aufrautiefen score the side edges of the sheet-shaped substrates The fact that the notch elements indent the second immersion in a lower roughening the side edges, it comes to lower cutting forces.
  • the stack of sheet-like printing materials is slightly fanned out in this area, the lower cutting forces lead to an advantageous dedusting of the cutting plane. Thorough dedusting of the machined side edge of the sheet substrates is important as the paper and dust particles otherwise present on the working surface will adversely affect the wetting of the side edges by adhesives.
  • Another advantage results from the inclination of the axis of rotation, which unavoidable manufacturing and assembly tolerances, which lead to a tumbling motion of the tool head, can be compensated by a sufficiently large choice of the angle ⁇ .
  • the arrangement of notch elements and cutting elements on the same tool head can be very favorably influenced on the roughening depth of the notch elements.
  • the roughness which indicates the penetration of the notch elements above the cutting plane, is an essential factor that goes into the properties of a finished perfect binding.
  • a low roughening depth means that the adhesive applied to the processed side edges of the sheet-like printing materials arranged in the stack can penetrate only slightly laterally into the stack of sheet-shaped printing substrates.
  • a low penetration depth of the adhesive is typically associated with a low pull-out strength of the sheet-form substrates from the stack, but an advantageous impact behavior of the bound stack of sheet-like substrates.
  • the notch depth of the notch elements is infinitely adjustable. This is particularly advantageous to adapt the processing of the side edges of the sheet-shaped substrates to the properties of the stack, z. B. number of sheet-shaped substrates in the stack, type of sheet-shaped substrates, whether and how the sheet-like substrates are printed, especially in the area of the side edge to be processed etc.
  • the stepless adjustability of the notch depth can be achieved, for example, by a stepless adjustability of the angle ⁇ .
  • the notch elements can be arranged on a Kerbring, which is height adjustable by means of a left-hand thread and with a corresponding device for fixing in a desired position with respect to the cutting edge and the cutting plane of the cutting elements.
  • the notch elements are arranged on a notch ring and the cutting elements are arranged on a cutting ring, Kerbring and cutting ring are separately releasably secured to the tool head.
  • the final assembly of the tool head can be facilitated and the entirety of the cutting elements can be easily replaced.
  • the cutting elements are all first fastened to the cutting ring, in order then to be ground together into their final shape. This type makes it possible to bring the cutting edges of all the individual cutting elements on the cutting ring with very small tolerances in the same cutting plane. The same applies to the production of a Kerbringes and the corresponding notch elements.
  • notch elements on the cutting ring between the individual cutting elements or at least some cutting elements is also within the scope of the device according to the invention.
  • a larger radius of the circular arrangement of the notch elements can be achieved by the displacement of the notch elements between the cutting elements, so that a larger number of notch elements can find space on the tool head.
  • the speed with which the notch elements in the milled side of the stack of sheet-shaped substrates increased by the larger radius, which leads to an improvement in the load of the notch elements would be in addition.
  • At least one notch element is mounted on the side facing away from the sheet-shaped substrates of the Kerbringes. This is particularly advantageous if the installation of the turned Kerbringes in the tool head can achieve a second preferred notch depth. In this way, an adaptation of the roughness depth between two preferred roughness depths can be achieved in a simple manner.
  • a setting of the roughening depth by placing the Kerbringes underlay. It is, depending on the desired roughness, a suitable washer between Kerbring and Tool head inserted.
  • This underlay can optionally be used in addition to a stepless height adjustment, in combination with a stepless height adjustment or instead of a stepless height adjustment of the roughening depth of the notch elements. It is also within the scope of the invention that the desired Aufrautiefe is achieved by combining a plurality of washers between Kerbring and tool head. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that other suitable underlaying means may be used instead of washers.
  • the cutting elements are soldered to the cutting ring, in particular before the cutting elements are ground to their final shape.
  • a cleaning brush is integrated on the tool head.
  • the cleaning brush is mounted on the surface of the tool head in the area that lies within the arrangement of the cutting elements, and serves to improve the dedusting of the machined surface of the stack of sheet-like substrates.
  • a negative pressure in the region of the tool head is specifically generated by the rotation of the tool head, which sucks the dust and paper particles formed during processing.
  • This can be achieved, for example, by providing a fan spiral in the center of the milling disk, which generates a flow of air away from the machined surface of the stack of sheet-like substrates, comparable to the operating principle of a hair dryer.
  • an advantageous extraction can be achieved directly at the point of origin of the dust and paper particles, which in turn promotes the dedusting and thus the improvement the wetting of the side edges of the sheet-like substrates by the adhesive improves the quality of the perfect binding.
  • the tool head 20 consists of a tool carrier 21, on the surface of a cutting ring 30 and a Kerbring 40 are attached.
  • the tool head 20 is connected to a shaft 10 (see FIG. FIG. 4 ) appropriate.
  • the shaft 10 is rotationally driven.
  • generally known and required for operating the device Antriebs Operationss- and / or fastening means and cams and controls are shown only schematically or will be described only in general terms.
  • the tool head 20 rotates when processing a stack of sheet-shaped substrates to those with the reference numeral 12 in FIG. 2 characterized axis of rotation in a direction indicated in the figures by the numeral 14 arrow.
  • the cutting ring 30 on the periphery on a number of cutting elements 32.
  • the cutting elements 32 are in the direction of rotation 14 forward inclined to the cutting ring 30 attached.
  • the cutting elements 32 have cutting segments 34 which cause the section through the sheet-like substrates 1.
  • the cutting segments are the outer edges of the cutting elements 32 leading in the direction of movement 14.
  • the cut through the sheet-shaped printing stock essentially takes place at the cutting corner 37, which represents the upper end of the cutting segments 34.
  • the cutting segment 34 has a typical undercut.
  • the cutting elements 32 may be attached to the cutting rings 30 releasably secured on the one hand, for example by screwing, on the other hand, the cutting elements 32 may be attached to the cutting rings 30 inextricably, z. B. by soldering.
  • a notch ring 40 is mounted on the surface of the carrier 21, are attached to the notch elements 36.
  • the notch elements 36 may likewise be diamond-ground carbide flakes or ground steel flakes which have been subsequently hardened, for. B. by ion implantation.
  • the notch elements 36 likewise have an upper corner 39, which decisively determines the roughening depth of the device according to the invention.
  • the roughening depth of the notch elements 36 or the upper corner 39 of the notch elements 36 results from the height offset between the upper corner 39 of the notch elements 36 and the upper corner 37 of the cutting segments 34.
  • the cutting elements and the notching elements are arranged substantially on a circle. This is not necessarily so.
  • the notch elements 36 may be offset in the radial direction to achieve alternative notching patterns in the milled side of the stack of sheet-like substrates 1. It is also conceivable, two or more Kerbringe 40 on provide the tool head 20, which also have, for example, only a smaller number of notch elements 36 per Kerbring 40.
  • the cutting ring 30 and the Kerbring 40 with individual drives and cutting ring 30 and Kerbring 40 rotate at a relative speed to each other, in particular in opposite directions.
  • the opposite rotation of Kerbring 30 and cutting ring 40 can be improved by the counter forces occurring trimming or notching.
  • the fanning stack of sheet-shaped substrates 1 is reduced by the opposing forces.
  • this height offset between the upper corner 39 of the notch elements 36 and the upper corner 37 of the cutting segments 34 can be influenced by shims 60 between the Kerbring 40 and the tool carrier 21 are inserted. Since in the illustrated embodiment of the device according to the invention, as in FIG. 2 it can be seen that the Kerbring 40 lies on the cutting ring 30, which in turn rests on the support 21, the washers 60 between the Kerbring 40 and the tool carrier 21 between the Kerbring 40 and the cutting ring 30 are underlaid to change the Aufrautiefe to reach. Washers 60 may further be inserted between the tool carrier 21 and the cutting ring 30 to influence the cutting plane 9.
