Description

The invention relates to an oil-collecting device for an internal combustion engine according to the features of the preamble of claim 1.

From US-PS 5,103,782 a generic oil catcher is known in which the oil pan or the oil collection housing of the internal combustion engine over the longitudinal extent of the crankcase has two different depths formed space sections. In the deeper, designed as a sump construction space section an oil extraction is provided, with which the oil is supplied to the consumers again. For targeted return of the oil located in the shallower space section corresponding Ölleitrippen are provided. When climbing, especially in an all-terrain motor vehicle, there is a risk that the lubricating oil located in the lower installation space section will return to the crankcase via the shallower installation space section. In addition to splashing losses, there is a risk that not enough oil will be available for the oil supply to the consumers in the area of the oil extraction or that air will be sucked in instead of oil.

It is also known (see reprint from MTZ Motortechnische Zeitschrift 52, 1991, p. 9, 10), lubricating oil from the cylinder head via integrated in an oil pan shell oil return channels that extend to below the oil level, to be fed back into the oil sump.

The object of the invention is to make an oil catcher for an internal combustion engine so that on the one hand a safe and fast oil return is ensured by the consumers to the oil sump and that on the other hand it is ensured that even at an angle of the engine backflow of the lubricating oil from the deeper space section in the crank chamber and / or in the shallower space section is prevented. These two functions should be based on production technology simple manner and thus be integrated cost-effectively in the oil catcher.

The solution of the problem is achieved by the features specified in claim 1. The insert formed as separate from the oil collecting device is formed on the one hand with an oil barrier between the two space sections and also has oil return passages over which passes the oil flowing back from the cylinder head on a direct path to below the oil level of the located in the lower space portion lubricating oil. Thus, the oil catcher housing is easy to produce by casting, since the two functions described above are implemented in the separately formed for oil collection housing insert.

In the subclaims further advantageous embodiments and improvements of the oil catcher according to the invention are included. The insert consists of an oil retaining edge and an oil bulkhead having central part and two side parts, in which oil return passages are integrated by the cylinder head.

The insert is advantageously made of plastic and thus contributes overall to a weight reduction of the internal combustion engine. In addition, such a plastic insert can be manufactured easily, e.g. by injection molding.

Beschreibung des AusführungsbeispielsDescription of the embodiment

An oil-collecting housing 2 has a construction space section 4, which is referred to below as the first oil-collecting space, and in which the oil necessary for supplying the lubricating oil to the internal combustion engine accumulates. In the first oil collection chamber 4, an oil snorkel 6 is placed at its lowest point, which leads via a first Ölabsaugleitung 8 to the suction side of an oil pump 10. In the oil flow housing 2, a second space 12 is arranged, which is referred to below as the second oil collection space, and which is formed shallower than the first oil collection space 4. In the second oil collection chamber 12, an oil snorkel 14 is also disposed at its lowest point, which is connected via a second Ölabsaugleitung 16 with a second suction side of the oil pump 10 designed as a double pump.

In the oil trap housing 2, a plastic insert 18 is used, the structure will be described in more detail below. The insert 18 has a central part 20, which, as illustrated in particular in FIGS. 2 and 3, in the installed state, the two oil collecting spaces 4, 12 separated from each other. Here, the middle part 20 has a first, to the first oil collection chamber 4 oriented side wall 22 which is provided with a, a bulkhead for the lubricating oil forming curved wall portion 23. A second, the two oil collecting chambers 4,12 severing side wall 24 engages in a arranged at the bottom of the oil collection chamber 12 and extending transversely to the longitudinal extent of the oil collection housing 2 retaining groove 48 a. This tongue and groove connection is additionally sealed by silicone or soft foam, since it is intended to prevent lubricating oil from the first oil collecting space when the vehicle is inclined 4 passes into the second oil collection chamber 12. In contrast, the first side wall 22 of the insert 18 is formed so that the lubricating oil can flow from the first oil collection chamber 4 below the central part 20, in particular when the engine is inclined. Thus, this space section is also used to hold the oil volume required for a reliable lubricating oil supply.

Wie aus Fig. 8 ersichtlich, verläuft oberhalb der zentral ausgerichteten geraden Teilfläche 26c die zum zweiten Ölsammelraum 12 führende zweite Ölabsaugleitung 16.A top wall 26 of the central part 20 is lowered towards the center (see section line IV - IV in Fig. 3) of the oil collection housing 2 and consists of two lowered partial surfaces 26a and 26b, which merge in the middle in a straight part surface 26c. The side edge 28 of the top wall 26 oriented toward the first oil collection chamber 4, hereinafter referred to as the oil retaining edge, serves as an oil barrier which prevents the oil from traveling from the first oil collection chamber 4 into the second oil collection chamber 12 when the vehicle is traveling uphill. As can be seen from FIG. 8, the second oil suction line 16, which leads to the second oil collecting space 12, extends above the centrally aligned straight partial surface 26c.

Two side parts 30 and 32 are integrally formed on the middle part 20, in which part of the oil return channels leading from the cylinder head to the first oil collection chamber 4 are integrated. For this purpose, the two side parts 30 and 32 have oil return openings 34, which are enclosed by sealing rings 36. The side member 32 provided in the embodiment with five oil return openings 34 extends over the entire length of the oil collection housing 2, while in the embodiment provided with four oil return openings 34 side member 30 extends from the second oil collection chamber 12 to the beginning of the first oil collection chamber 4. The arranged in the two side parts 30 and 32 oil return openings 34 open into a respective oil collection channel 38 and 40, which are provided at their lower ends, each with an oil drain opening 42 and 44. The two oil collection channels 38 and 40 are closed (except for the oil return openings 34) to the crankcase by cover elements 46, which are fastened to the side parts 30, 32 by vibration welding, for example. In the Screwing the oil collection housing 2 to a crankcase lower part, not shown, sitting on the flange of the crankcase lower part corresponding to the oil return holes 34 introduced holes sealingly with their bore edges on the sealing rings 36. By integrated in the crankcase oil return passages and reaching to below the oil level of the first oil collection chamber 4 oil collection channels 38 and 40 ensures that the lubricating oil from consumers despite the caused by the crankshaft and piston movements pressure pulsations quickly back into the first oil collection chamber 4 arrives. In the second oil collection chamber 12, the lubricating oil is collected from the main bearings of the crankshaft and the lubricating oil from the spray nozzles, not shown, for the piston cooling and pumped back via the second Ölabsaugleitung 16 into the first oil collection chamber 14.

The fixed by the engagement of the side wall 24 in the retaining groove 48 plastic insert 18 is screwed captive with the help of integrally formed on the central part 20 and on the two side parts 30 and 32 mounting tabs 50 in the oil drain housing 2. On the two longitudinal sides of the oil collecting housing 2, a sealing surface 52 is provided, via which the insert 18 is sealed against the oil guide housing 2 with its two side parts 30 and 32.

The insert 18 is designed in particular on account of the formed as an oil barrier oil retaining edge 28 and the oil bulkhead 23 so that even when driving uphill of the motor vehicle of up to 45 ° prevents the lubricating oil from the first oil collection chamber 4 in the crankcase and / or in the second Oil collection chamber 12 can pass. By arranged in the second oil collection chamber 12 Ölabsaugleitung 16 ensures that regardless of the pitch of the vehicle, the lubricating oil from the second oil collection chamber 12 via the Ölabsaugleitung 16 and via an air separator 54 into the first oil collection chamber 4, from where it with the help of the first Pump stage is supplied to the consumers again. Both Pump stages are constantly in operation, is ensured by the air separator 54, that in particular when driving down or braking the vehicle from the second oil collection chamber 12 sucked air is deposited and thus does not get into the crankcase or to the consumers.
