Description

The invention relates to a method for detecting traffic situation data in a traffic network according to the preamble of patent claim 1. Furthermore, the invention relates to a terminal device for such a method.

In many cases stationary devices such as induction loops or sensors based on infrared, ultrasound or radar beams are used to detect traffic situation data. However, methods are also known in which the vehicles moving in traffic are themselves used in the sense of movable sensors for data acquisition. Such methods are also referred to as FCD (Floating Car Data) methods. Such a method is for example from the WO 99/42971 known. In this case, in a vehicle which is used as a movable sensor (FCD vehicle), speed values are determined and transmitted together with the associated position data to a traffic situation detection center for further evaluation. The respective location of the FCD vehicle is usually carried out with the aid of navigation satellites. For this purpose, the respective vehicle must have a special device device (eg GPS receiver) in addition to the already required terminal for a mobile communication between the vehicle and the traffic situation detection center. This requires a corresponding cost for such a special device, but on the other hand has the advantage that from the received signals of the navigation satellite system and an accurate speed measurement for the vehicle is possible.

From the DE 196 38 070 A1 A method for detecting traffic data of vehicles is known which does not require a special device comparable to a GPS receiver. Rather, the vehicle-side equipment expense is limited to the use of a terminal for a mobile network, so a mobile phone that is carried in the vehicle. In addition to its function for mobile communication, this terminal also has a function for obtaining time information and for storing information. Furthermore, in this method at least one central unit in the sense of a data acquisition center is provided, which is assigned to a plurality of terminals, that is to say a plurality of FCD vehicles. During the journey, the terminals determine information that characterize the radio cells of the mobile radio network as well as other radio and transmission technical information of the mobile network. It is essential that during the journey also the cell change characterizing information is recorded together with time stamps. It is thus recorded in the terminal at which time a change from one cell to another has taken place. This information is collected by the individual terminals and transmitted to a control center for further evaluation. There then takes place on the basis of this information, a reconstruction of the route of the respective vehicle. Finally, an evaluation of the reconstructed driveways takes place with respect to the determination of quantities which characterize the traffic flow on the driveways. Compared to the FCD method, which work with vehicles that provide comparatively very accurate spatial position information using a GPS receiver, this known method has the disadvantage that the information about the respective location of the FCD vehicles are very inaccurate and no reliable data on the speeds of the FCD vehicles are available. Furthermore, the communication effort between the FCD vehicles and the respective headquarters is very high.

Object of the present invention is to propose a method that manages with a respect to the FCD vehicles used very low equipment complexity and in which the communication effort for data exchange with the traffic situation detection center is low. Furthermore, a terminal device is to be proposed which is suitable for corresponding FCD vehicles.

This object is achieved in a generic method by the specified in claim 1 features. Advantageous developments of this method will become apparent from the dependent claims 2 to 10. A terminal device according to the invention has the features of claim 11 and is characterized by the features of claims 12 and 13 in an advantageous manner further ausgestaltbar.

The invention provides a method for detecting traffic situation data in a traffic route network, which is covered by a plurality of base stations of a cellular mobile radio network, in particular a GSM or UMTS network, and in which a plurality of vehicles moves, each with a are provided in operation terminal device (terminal) for the mobile network. The terminal, usually a mobile phone, so does not have to be used by the user, but only has to be turned on. In this case, operating data incurred in the operation of the terminal in contact with the base stations, for determining the current location of the respective terminal, so ultimately the vehicle used. Unlike the one from the DE 196 38 070 A1 In this case, the terminal device has a digital map of the traffic route network, which is formed from a multiplicity of geographical points or discrete route sections representative of the course of the traffic route network, wherein the points or route sections are each assigned characteristic values of operating parameters of the mobile radio network. In that regard, one can also say that this digital map is spanned by coordinates that relate to operating parameters of the individual base stations. It is further provided that the terminal device has a software program that automatically compares each currently available operating parameters with the stored operating parameters of the digital map and from each determined the current spatial position of the terminal and thus the FCO vehicle. The software program of the terminal also determines repeatedly representative of the speed of the vehicle value. This can be, for example, the actual speed in a given time interval or, for example, also an average speed in a larger time interval. However, it could also be, for example, traveled distances in a predetermined time interval or traveling times for covering a given distance. In addition, it has the software program via stored rules that cause the terminal in each case under certain predetermined conditions to transmit a message via the operating data channel of the mobile network (SMS message, SMS = Short Message Service) to a center, the message at least location and speed information of the vehicle contains. This means that the software program usually does not continually send out its messages, depending on the occurrence of certain events. Thus, the reporting activity of the FCD vehicle can be limited to situations that are of particular importance for the traffic situation detection (eg viscous traffic, congestion). As a result, the communication costs for the process are substantially reduced. This also contributes to the fact that for the transmission of the messages to the traffic situation detection center the cost-effective way is selected via the operating data channel of the mobile network. As a rule, a message from a FCD vehicle therefore includes information that is representative of the vehicle speed at a location or in a correspondingly adjacent route section as well as location information for unambiguous identification of the location or the route section to which the speed information relates. In the traffic storage center, the received messages are evaluated to determine the traffic situation.

It is advantageous if the messages that are transmitted to the traffic control center, in addition, also provided with a time information, so include a time that correlates with the speed and location information. This time information may conveniently be added by the terminal in the FCD vehicle. However, it could also be added in the sense of an end time when receiving the respective SMS message from the control center.

In a preferred embodiment, the invention provides that the speed information of the FCD vehicle is approximately determined by the software program on the basis of the distances of the local positions of the FCD vehicle determined at different times. This has the advantage that the location positions are completely self-determined by the terminal, so in FCD vehicle no special facilities such as a GPS receiver must be available. It also need not provide interfaces to a corresponding sensor in the FCD vehicle on the terminal become. Of course, it is also possible to use the speed information about such an interface from a speedometer of the FCD vehicle. However, this requires the installation of appropriate signal lines.

It is particularly advantageous if the software program has stored driving profiles that are characteristic of certain road types, such as a highway or a country road. In that case, it is possible to ascertain on the basis of a comparison of the actually driven driving profile with the stored driving profiles on which road type the FCD vehicle is currently located. Thus, an additional criterion is given to improve the spatial positioning in their accuracy. In this way, the terminal device is enabled to decide on which road the respective FCD vehicle is currently located, for example, in the case of roads of different types that are relatively close to each other.

As already stated, the software program of the mobile terminal in the FCD vehicle also has predetermined rules which serve to decide on which events or conditions the FCD vehicle has to report to the control center. Such a rule may be useful in the specification of a minimum speed at which falls below the reporting activity is activated. If, for example, when driving on a motorway at a speed in a typical speed range for the highway suddenly the vehicle speed drops drastically, so that a predetermined threshold is exceeded. this indicates the presence of a traffic jam, such as an accident or excessive traffic. In this case, it is expedient to send out as soon as possible a corresponding message to the traffic data collection center. However, if the FCD vehicle is already stuck in traffic, then another reporting activity is initially of no interest, as no change could be reported. Only when the vehicle starts moving again, there is an interest for the traffic control center to gain knowledge of this. The stored rules can therefore contain corresponding specifications.

The operating parameters of the mobile radio network currently present in the terminal device expediently include in particular the identifier of that base station which delivers the currently highest field strength at the location of the terminal device. A criterion for the location determination is thus the identifier of the respective radio cell in which the FCD vehicle resides. But that would generally be too rough a position. Therefore, it is recommended that the operating parameters of the mobile radio network used for location determination also include, for example, field strength information about other base stations receivable by the terminal at the current location. Of course, current signal transit times to the different base stations can be used for such an evaluation. However, it is by no means necessary to separately register the cell change, that is to say a transition of the FCD vehicle from one radio cell to an adjacent one, and to record the present time of the transition, as described in US Pat DE 196 38 070 A1 necessary is.

In principle, it is possible to provide the software required for the FCD function, including the required database (digital map, decision rules), of the terminal via a SIM card. With particular advantage, however, a built-in the respective FCD vehicle digital handsfree device is used for the inventive method, which is connected to the terminal in the intended manner. Such a terminal already has a processor for the digital processing of acoustic signals. This processor, in conjunction with a corresponding storage volume, can easily be loaded with the required software program including the database. This has the great advantage that on the one hand it is guaranteed from the outset that the hands-free system is carried in a vehicle and not by a pedestrian, so that uninteresting SMS messages can be excluded from pedestrians from the outset. In addition, no additional expense is required for the installation of the terminal device or the speakerphone belonging to it because of the property as a sensor for determining traffic information. The only equipment expense is the fact that the necessary for traffic data collection software is stored in the terminal or connected to it speakerphone. The operating costs for the process or the operation of the terminal for the purpose of traffic location data collection is low because of an event-dependent Logging is ensured and the individual traffic data messages are transported via the cost-effective route of SMS messages to the traffic situation detection center.
