Definitions
- the invention relates to an internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder, in the combustion of a compressed in the cylinder by a piston homogeneous Fuel-air mixture initiated by a time-controlled spark ignition becomes.
- gasoline engines are referred to in the literature as gasoline engines.
- gasoline engines is a homogeneous fuel-air mixture (Variation of the fuel-air ratio lambda over the combustion chamber of less than 10%) via spark ignition, usually a spark plug, ignited.
- spark ignition usually a spark plug
- spark plugs ignited.
- precious metal for example, platinum alloys
- Unfavorable is also the Fact that with spark plugs the electrode distance after a certain Operating time must be readjusted. This is the shutdown of the Internal combustion engine necessary.
- the Fuel-air ratio of the fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber is greater than 1.9 and for temporally controlled spark ignition at least one laser light source, at least one optical transmission device and at least one Einkopplungsoptik provided for focusing laser light in a combustion chamber are.
- a variant of the invention is that for time-controlled spark ignition at least one laser light source, at least one optical transmission device and at least one input optics for focusing laser light into one Combustion chamber are provided, and that the piston of at least one cylinder a Has piston recess and at least one focus of the laser light at the top Tot Vietnameseslage the piston in the piston recess is.
- the laser ignition makes it possible the ignition of the fuel-air mixture "deeper" in the combustion chamber, in particular in to lay the piston recess. It has been shown that this is beneficial to the Ignition ability affects.
- the ignition energy of or for an ignition process used laser light pulse (s) below 20 mJ (Millijoule) and at optimum ignition point may even be less than 3 mJ.
- laser light pulse s
- This in turn allows the Use of very inexpensive lasers, for example a diode pumped Solid-state laser, in particular a Nd / YAG laser. It is even possible, directly Use laser diodes as laser light sources for the ignition laser pulse.
- the time-controlled Spark ignition at least one laser light source, at least one optical Transmission device and at least one coupling-in optics for focusing Laser light are provided in a combustion chamber, and that for igniting the fuel-air mixture in a cylinder two or more laser light beams with spatial staggered focus position are provided.
- this measure can also be with you relatively slowly propagating flame fronts in lean fuel-air mixtures a reliable ignition can be achieved.
- this double or multiple ignition also allows a direct Intensity control, if one actively detects the cylinder pressure of each cylinder and a control device supplies. It is easy to do so based on the cylinder pressure determine if the first laser pulse has already led to the ignition. If so, then is the second and any further laser pulses at a standard level stay. But has not led the first laser pulse to an ignition, which is in reflects a lower cylinder pressure rise, so the engine control or the control provided therein immediately the second laser pulse in its intensity and, if appropriate, increase in duration, in order nevertheless to ensure reliable ignition to achieve this work cycle.
- the internal combustion engine shown in FIG. 1 is a six-cylinder stationary gasoline engine 1 with an intake tract 2 and a Exhaust 3.
- a gas mixer 3 via the line 4 supplied gas, For example, methane, mixed with the line 5 supplied air.
- gas mixer can also be a injection of gas into an air line.
- the gas-air mixture is compressed and passes over the mixture cooler 7 and the throttle valve 8 in the space in front of the not closer shown intake valves of the engine 1.
- the turbine 9 arranged the turbocharger. So far corresponds to the Motoranordung the state of Technology.
- This laser ignition includes a generally designated 10 Laser light source, in the present embodiment of flexible light guides 11 existing optical transmission device and for each of the six cylinders one schematically illustrated coupling optics 12.
- This coupling optics consists in essentially from a focusing lens or lens arrangement and a Combustion chamber window, through which the light can enter from outside into the combustion chamber.
- the laser light source 10 is controlled by an electronic motor control 13, from the angle encoder 14, a crank angle ⁇ and the schematic shown transducers or measuring devices 15 and 16 receives values that the Motor power N or the speed n correspond.
- the electronic engine control still values for the current cylinder pressure, which is detected via transducer 17.
- the cylinder pressure values are designated P1 to P6.
- each cylinder a separate laser in the laser light source 10 his. But it is also possible to work with a single laser and the Laser light beams for the individual cylinders, for example by beam splitters or rotating mirrors, split.
- laser light sources for one or more cylinders may preferably diode laser pumped solid state lasers, such as YB lasers or Nd / YAG lasers, be provided. These laser light sources can be active or passive Q-switched laser to allow an exact timing triggering.
- the wavelength of the laser light used is favorably above 400 nm, preferably over 800 nm, ie in the infrared range. But other wavelengths are quite conceivable and possible.
- the ignition energy of a Ignition process used laser pulse is less than 20 mJ, preferably less than 5 mJ. Even with lean mode of operation can be optimal position of the focus and the Intensity distribution even with ignition energies of less than 3 mJ.
- the Pulse duration of the individual laser light pulse is favorably between 1 ns and 10 ns, preferably between 5 ns and 50 ns. This also allows the use of Laser diodes that directly provide the ignition laser pulse than not just one Pump solid state laser.
- a piston 19 is shown in top dead center.
- the Piston 19 has a piston recess 19a with a depth t between the upper edge 19b and the bottom 19c of the piston bowl.
- the intake valve 20 and the exhaust valve 21 are shown only schematically because they correspond to the prior art.
- the Piston can also be a combustion chamber disc or a depression, up to the Cylinder liner is sufficient. In such a, for example, a nose annular circumferential recess is an "external" Piston bowl.
- a combustion chamber window 22 is now preferably made of sapphire, via the laser light 23 after focusing on the lens 24 in the combustion chamber 25 is introduced as a triggered laser ignition pulse.
- the combustion chamber 25 is a pre-chamberless Main combustion chamber in which the focus 26 of the laser light is located.
- the focus 26 of the laser light lies in the piston recess 19a of the Piston 19, and at a distance a, between 25% and 75% of the bowl depth d is. Due to this spatial position of the focus far inside the combustion chamber A good ignition even over lean air-fuel mixtures Lambda value of 1.9.
- FIG. 3 shows another embodiment with two combustion chamber windows 22 and two Einkopplungsoptiken 24, each one via the Lichtleitphase 11 supplied Laser light pulse at spatially offset locations (focus 26) in the combustion chamber into focus.
- the two Laser light pulses can be from the same laser light source or the same laser come. But it is also possible to use separate lasers. Also can these two laser light pulses offset in time to the ignition during one and the same Working cycle or to initiate the same be used.
- the laser ignition also allows a possible through the possible small combustion chamber window lateral access to the combustion chamber (eg normal to the cylinder axis).
- the coupling optics may include one or more lenses 24. It is also possible to design the combustion chamber window 22 itself as a lens.
- the coupling-in optics Laser light beam not focused down to a maximum small beam cross-section. Rather, it has been shown when the maximum measured transversely to the beam direction Intensity half-width of the laser light beam in focus between 20 ⁇ m and 300 ⁇ m, preferably between 40 microns and 100 microns.
- FIGS. 4a and 4b show the intensity distribution in the two mutually perpendicular and both perpendicular to the beam direction X and Y.
- Figs. 4a and 4b show that the intensity half-widths in the directions X and Y, namely the sizes B X and B Y are different in size. However, they are both conveniently located in the above-mentioned area. In any case, it is favorable if the intensity half-widths B X and B Y are above 40 ⁇ m. Likewise favorable, a bell-shaped in the cross-sectional profile intensity distribution, as shown in FIGS. 4a and 4b in about, has been found to be low.
- Fig. 6 shows that the laser ignition according to the invention also in a Combustion engine can be used with an antechamber.
- the antechamber is denoted by 27. It may, but need not, be a separate one Fuel supply (gas line 28) have.
- the antechamber points in the usual way a prechamber combustion chamber 27 a, which via overflow openings 29 with the Main combustion chamber 25 communicates.
- the focus is 26 of the page over the Lens-shaped combustion chamber windows coupled laser light is located in the Center of the prechamber combustion chamber 26.
