Definitions

  • the invention relates to an arrangement for filling boxes with a product, like vegetables or fruit or potatoes, comprising a frame, onto which at least one support for a box is hingedly mounted, a drive for making the support hinge and a conveyer for the supply of the product.
  • An arrangement of this kind is for example known from EP-A-0 641 716.
  • the product is supplied with a conveyer that ends in the box and the box is canted in such a way that the product rolls into the box from a low altitude, which substantially precludes the product of being damaged.
  • Potatoes and comparable products are normally harvested within a period of time of some weeks and are delivered to a store, in which they are stocked up in boxes until they can be processed. After some time, the boxes are emptied and the potatoes are packed, for example in sacks and carried off or they are processed otherwise. In a store of this kind, arrangements for filling as well as arrangements for emptying are therefore needed.
  • a basis for the invention is the observation that both arrangements have much in common and that a combined arrangement would be more advantageous under the given circumstances than two individual arrangements.
  • the invention is therefore characterised in that the arrangement is arranged for filling and for emptying the boxes and that the conveyer is arranged for carrying off the product.
  • a favourable embodiment of the arrangement with which the efficiency may be further increased is characterised in that to the frame a first support for a first box and a second support for a second box are hingedly mounted, provided with respectively a first and a second drive and that a support for the conveyer is positioned between both supports.
  • a further favourable embodiment of the arrangement is characterised in that first adjusting means are provided for adjusting a height of the conveyer. It is possible then to position the conveyer above a box to be filled and below a box to be emptied. Moreover, the height may be selected now such that the product rolls into or out of the box from a minimal height.
  • a further favourable embodiment of the arrangement is characterised in that second adjusting means are provided for adjusting a direction of a longitudinal axis of the conveyer.
  • the conveyer can be positioned now in such a manner that a product rolling out of the box is collected or that a product, supplied to it lands inside the box.
  • a further favourable embodiment of the arrangement is characterised in that third adjusting means are provided for translating the conveyer in an at least substantially longitudinal direction. It is possible now to insert the conveyer deep into a box while filling, in such a manner that the bottom of the box is filled with the product layer by layer, such that there is substantially no need for the product to roll.
  • a box is fixed onto its support with a binding before it is filled or emptied.
  • a favourable embodiment of the inventive arrangement that obviates this operation is characterised in that a support is provided with a clamp and an actuator, for operationally clamping a box onto the support.
  • the clamp is preferably constructed so as to press onto the entire edge of the box, whereby the forces acting on the box are spread well.
  • the clamp can be provided with a lid, for example made of canvas, provided with an outlet opening, which helps in guiding the product in a more controlled manner to the conveyer belt when the box is emptied.
  • a very favourable embodiment of the inventive arrangement is characterised in that the at least one support is hingedly mounted to an auxiliary frame, that the auxiliary frame is hingedly mounted to the frame, that the drive is mounted between the auxiliary frame and the support and that between the auxiliary frame and the frame an additional drive is mounted.
  • the additional drive is used for rotating the full box over a first angle and the drive is used for rotating the box over a further angle.
  • the main purpose of the additional drive is to rotate a full box, it will preferably be more powerful than the drive.
  • a further favourable embodiment of the inventive arrangement is characterised in that a hinge point of the support is operationally placed on a higher position than a hinge point of the auxiliary frame.
  • a further favourable embodiment of the inventive arrangement is characterised in that the drive comprises a hydraulic cylinder, placed between the auxiliary frame and the support and that the additional drive comprises at least one additional hydraulic cylinder, placed between the auxiliary frame and the frame.
  • the hydraulic cylinder and the at least one additional hydraulic cylinder are chosen such that the support may hinge over an angle of at least 160 degrees, in which case for example the at least one additional hydraulic cylinder may provide for a rotation of the first 90 degrees and the hydraulic cylinder for rotation of the remaining 70 degrees.
  • Fig. 1A schematically shows an existing filling arrangement in side view which is not in operation, comprising a frame 1, on the two sides of which boxes 2,3 can be placed.
  • a box can be filled with a conveyer 4, to which the potatoes are supplied by a transport means, not shown here. While one box is filled, the other, full box can be replaced by an empty box, so that a continuous process is obtained.
  • conveyer 4 is mounted onto a carriage 5, which is placed on a robot 6, provided with a motor 7 by which carriage 5 can be moved to the left or to the right together with conveyer 4.
  • Robot 6 is also provided with a hydraulic cylinder 8, with which the height of conveyer 4 can be adjusted.
  • Robot 6 is moreover rotatably mounted in frame 1, in such a way that the entire conveyer 4 can be rotated manually in a horizontal plane.
  • Fig. 1B schematically shows this filling arrangement while filling box 2.
  • box 2 is canted such that the potatoes roll substantially without falling from conveyer 4 into box 2.
  • conveyer 2 performs a pattern of movements, in the figure from left to right with the aid of motor 7 and moreover the height of conveyer 4 is adapted by hydraulic cylinder 8, in such a manner that the potatoes are put down layer by layer.
  • Fig. 1C schematically shows the inventive arrangement while emptying box 2.
  • box 2 is canted over a larger angle and preferably the lower edge of box 2 is moved towards the central part of conveyer 4.
  • conveyer 4 has been lowered with the aid of hydraulic cylinder 8 of robot 6 and conveyer 4 has been rotated 90 degrees in the horizontal plane.
  • the content of box 2 falls over its entire width onto conveyer 4 and is subsequently carried off.
  • box 2 In order to empty box 2 completely, box 2 must be canted over an angle of for example 160 degrees.
  • Fig. 2 shows the arrangement more in detail while not in operation, comprising a frame 1 above which an L-shaped support 9 is placed, onto which a box 2 can be placed and which is mounted with hinges 10 on both sides to an auxiliary frame 11, which in turn is mounted with hinges 12 on both sides to two posts 13 which form part of frame 1.
  • a hydraulic cylinder 14 is placed, with which support 9 can be canted round hinges 10.
  • Hydraulic cylinder 14 is of a relatively light type and is more in particular used when the box is filled, in which situation the box is canted over a relatively small angle. When a box is to be emptied, it is first gradually canted over an angle of about 90 degrees with the aid of one or two additional hydraulic cylinders.
  • At least one additional hydraulic cylinder 16 is placed between auxiliary frame 11 and frame 1, which is of a more powerful type than hydraulic cylinder 14 because it must cant the full box over an angle of about 90 degrees. This takes place gradually, while the potatoes roll onto a conveyer 4 to be carried off to further processing means. Once the final position is reached, there will be only a few potatoes left in the box and support 9 may, together with box 2, be rotated over a remaining angle of about 60 degrees with the aid of drive 14.
  • a clamp 17 is mounted to support 9 which may be lowered with the aid of a hydraulic cylinder 18, so that it presses onto the upper edge of box 2, preferably on the entire upper edge of the box, which clamps box 2 onto support 9.
  • Fig. 3 shows the arrangement while filling, with frame 1 and auxiliary frame 11, onto which L-shaped support 9 is mounted, which is now canted round hinges 10 in such a manner that the potatoes supplied via conveyer 4, which has previously been rotated by 90 degrees in the horizontal plane, can roll easily into box 2.
  • hydraulic cylinder 14 is mounted which has realised the rotation round hinges 10.
  • auxiliary frame 11 has not been moved and therefore additional hydraulic cylinder 16, which is mounted between frame 1 and auxiliary frame 11, has not been excited.
  • conveyer 4 is alternately moved into and out of the box with the aid of motor 7, as a result of which the potatoes are being put down layer by layer.
  • Fig. 4 shows the arrangement while emptying, in which situation L-shaped support 9 is canted so far round hinges 12 with the aid of additional hydraulic cylinder 16 that substantially all potatoes have left box 2 and rolled onto conveyer 4.
  • Fig. 5 shows the arrangement in a final stage of emptying, in which situation box 2 can be canted over an additional angle of 30-70 degrees in order to remove the very last potatoes.
  • hydraulic cylinder 14 which cants support 9 round hinges 10.
