Method for crimping textile fibres or yarns in a crimping box that is provided with a compaction chamber (1) comprising driving rollers (2), which cooperate with scrapers (3), and a chamber (5) for pre-setting and guiding the crimped yarns (6), characterised in that it substantially consists in conveying the yams (4) into a first compaction zone of a crimping box, in order to obtain uniform crimping (6), and then, in a second zone (5) having a free space (5') that is delimited on at least one side of the yarn strand, in pre-setting the obtained uniform crimping (6) and guiding said crimping to the outlet of the crimping box, by means of the pre-setting fluid.
    2. Method according to claim 1, characterised in that the crimping is adjusted and initially formed by retaining the end of the fibres or yams inserted in the crimping box, downstream of the compaction chamber (1).
    3. Method according to claim 1, characterised in that the obtained uniform crimping (6) is pre-set and guided to the outlet of the crimping box by means of the pre-setting fluid, which acts on at least a part of the section of the obtained crimped strand, in a free space in the pre-setting and guiding chamber.
    4. Device for carrying out the method according to claim 1, in the form of a crimping box that is provided with a compaction chamber (1) comprising driving rollers (2), which cooperate with scrapers (3), and a chamber (5) for pre-setting and guiding the crimped yarns (6), characterised in that the section of the compaction chamber (1) is adjustable, and in that the pre-setting and guiding chamber (5) has a larger section than the strand of obtained crimped yarns (6), the supplementary space or spaces delimited around said strip (6) being related to the means for delivering the setting fluid.
    5. Device according to claim 4, characterised in that the section of the compaction chamber (1), which comprises driving rollers (2) and scrapers (3), may be adjusted by providing means (7 and 8) which, on the one hand, allow the scrapers (3) to be brought close together and, one the other hand, allow the inlet section of the scrapers (3) to be displaced in the direction of, or at a distance from, the driving rollers (2).
    6. Device according to claim 5, characterised in that the adjusting means (7), which allows the scrapers (3) to be brought closer together, is in the form of an element that is threaded with reverse pitch, or in the form of a pair of cylinders controlled in synchronisation, or of an articulated linkage, drawing the scrapers (3) together and apart.
    7. Device according to claim 5, characterised in that the means (8), which is intended to displace the inlet of the scrapers in the direction of the driving rollers (2) or in the opposite direction to these driving rollers (2), is in the form either of a screw-and-nut drive acting on a guiding and support means that is common to the scraper (3), or of individual synchronised drives of the scrapers.
    8. Device according to any one of claims 5 to 7, characterised in that the spacing of the scrapers (3) and the adjustment thereof relative to the driving rollers (2) are brought about by a centralised control element that synchronises the two adjustment movements.
    9. Device according to claim 4, characterised in that the compaction chamber (1) opens into the chamber (5) for pre-setting and guiding the obtained uniform crimping (6), which has a larger internal cross-section than said crimping (6) and is provided on its internal faces with means for delivering the setting fluid, in the form of nozzles or the like.
    10. Device according to claim 9, characterised in that the internal section of the chamber (5) is configured so as to delimit, on at least one side of the strand of obtained crimped yarns (6), a free space (5'), of any shape.
    11. Device according to claim 9, characterised in that the internal section of the chamber (5) is of the regular or irregular polygon type, and delimits a space (5') only on one side of the crimped yarn strand (6) or on two sides of this strand.
    12. Device according to claim 11, characterised in that the internal section of the chamber (5) is of a configuration such that spaces (5') that are slightly lower than the strand of crimped yarns (6) are delimited on either side of said strand (6), so that their edges rest against the comers of said strand.
    13. Device according to claim 4, characterised in that the height of the section of the strand of crimped yams may be adjusted by providing, in the region of the scrapers (3), guiding means that may be displaced in a sliding manner between said scrapers, in the direction of the vertical axis of said means.
    14. Device according to claim 4, characterised in that it is also provided, at the end of the pre-setting and guiding chamber (5) that is remote from that connected to the compaction chamber (1), with a means (10) for retaining the fibres or yarns at the start of a crimping process.
    15. Device according to claim 14, characterised in that the means (10) is in the form of a valve that is mounted in front of the outlet of said chamber (5) and is capable of being actuated by means of a motorisation device, the opening and closing mechanism of which is preferably triggered by means of a programmable controller and/or by a manual pulse command.
    16. Device according to claim 4, characterised in that the upper and lower walls of the pre-setting and guiding chamber (5) are equipped with an electric or hot fluid-circulation, integrated heating means.
    17. Device according to claim 4, characterised in that at least one wall portion of the pre-setting and guiding chamber (5), which is made of a transparent material, is also provided.
    18. Device according to claim 17, characterised in that the transparent wall is also provided with an optical means for monitoring the obtained product, which means cooperates with an electronic comparison device.
