Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a plastic pallet and its manufacturing process.
  • the present invention also relates to a die for the extrusion of the profiles and / or spacers constituting the pallet according to the present invention.
  • the specifications for pallets for handling, transporting and storing static loads often specify properties such as: durability, recyclability, stacking possibilities, compliance with standards of mechanical resistance to impact and bending (ISO 8611 and ISO / TR 10233), wide range of operating temperatures (often from -30 to 40 ° C), low weight (25 kg max. Most often), ease of cleaning, absence of nests of bacterial development ...
  • plastic pallets has been known for a long time. Compared to their wooden counterparts, they notably have the advantage of durability and recyclability.
  • the plastic pallets obtained by compact injection present an interesting alternative to wooden pallets because unlike the latter, they do not require assembly operation (s) that are labor intensive.
  • these pallets can have a mechanical strength close to that of wooden pallets with an acceptable weight and a better longevity.
  • these pallets have the disadvantage of being obtained by assembling a large number of parts, which is uneconomical and increases the number of fittings and therefore, the possibilities of weak points in the structure and nests for development. bacterial.
  • Plastic pallets with a one-piece tray possibly extradited, have been proposed, in particular in documents EP 696989 and WO 95/21093.
  • the monobloc plates offered in these documents are solid plates, the simple geometry of which has not been optimized. They therefore have the drawback of increasing the weight of the pallet, reducing its ease of handling and increasing its cost per unit.
  • the present invention therefore relates to a plastic pallet which has, compared to this solution, the advantage, with equal mechanical properties, both of a reduced weight and of being obtained by assembling a reduced number of rooms.
  • the present invention therefore relates to a plastic pallet comprising at least one monobloc plate obtained by extrusion and resting on 'spacers, said plate being a hollow profile consisting of two substantially planar parallel elements connected by partitions.
  • An important aspect of the present invention lies in optimizing the geometry of the pallet (shape and thickness of planar elements, partitions, spacers, etc.) so as to obtain high mechanical strength with low weight.
  • these can be oblique or transverse, of any shape and / or draw within the profile, any shapes: rectangular, square, in N, in W, in ⁇ , in cross ( X) ...
  • Cross-shaped partitions are particularly suitable.
  • These partitions can be arranged in a single layer, or in several layers separated by one or more longitudinal elements.
  • the thickness of these partitions may or may not be uniform across a cross section of the plate. In particular, it can vary across a cross section from one partition to another and / or within the same partition.
  • the thickness of the partitions is greater at the level of the spacers, where the bending stress of the pallet under load is the greatest.
  • Reinforcement bars can also be slid inside certain partitions (or even all) to increase the flexural strength of the pallet.
  • These bars can be made of wood, glass fibers impregnated with a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin or metal (aluminum or steel for example). Resin-impregnated fiberglass bars are particularly suitable.
  • the reinforcement bars can also be placed between the plate and the spacers; in this case, they are generally fixed to the spacers either by gluing, or by mechanical assembly (by means of screws, rivets, bolts ...)
  • the external surface of the profile which consists of one of the substantially flat elements, can be smooth. It can also include hollows, grooves, protrusions or any other relief favoring stacking, ventilation, drainage, fixing ...
  • the spacers according to the present invention are profiles of any shape, solid or hollow, preferably hollow.
  • these may include partitions. They can be square or rectangular section profiles arranged with their generatrix parallel to the pallet plate, in the form of longitudinal members. These generators can then be either parallel or perpendicular to the direction of extrusion of the plate. Preferably, they are parallel to this direction. They can also be profiles of any cross section, in particular round or square, arranged with their generatrix perpendicular to the plate of the pallet, in the form of studs.
  • the pallet plate according to the present invention is advantageously supported either by three beams which extend over the entire length of the pallet, or by three series of studs, generally three in number (ie 9 studs in total) placed in place and places spars.
  • the spacing force which acts on these studs during a bending stress is such that it is preferable to maintain these studs either by skis (profiled the binders to each other from below), or by a second plate, possibly similar to the plate which supports the load.
  • Another advantageous variant consists in choosing, as studs serving as spacers, hollow profiles such as pieces of extruded tubular profiles. Indeed, such profiles are available in abundance and at low prices on the market. In order to benefit from a sufficient contact surface between these profiles and the pallet plate and / or the surface on which it is placed, it may be advantageous to complete these profiles by means of one or more parts ( injected or extradited) that you just assemble (for example by gluing) on these
  • the pallet according to the present invention comprises at least two plates, which are either separated by the spacers or located on the same side thereof.
  • the two plates are advantageously arranged with their directions of extraction perpendicular to each other (that is to say that they are crossed).
  • This last variant gives good results, in particular in bending. Pallets where two crossed trays are contiguously superimposed and intended to directly support the loads, are particularly advantageous.
  • the plastic material constituting the hollow profile must be an extrudable thermoplastic plastic material, loaded or not. It may be a polyolefin (polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP), homo- or copolymer) or a, vinyl chloride polymer (PNC). Preferably, the plastic material is PNC.
  • the formulation of the resin is preferably adapted so as to meet the specifications of the application, in particular in terms of resistance to cold shock.
  • the plastic material can also advantageously be a resin loaded with any filler material to meet the specifications of the application.
  • This filler can be particulate or fibrous, natural or synthetic (fibers or glass beads for example). Natural fibers, cellulosic, such as wood fibers are very suitable.
  • the advantage of choosing a resin loaded with natural fibers compared to a virgin resin lies in a much easier calibration of the profile during extrusion.
  • a polyolefin loaded with wood fibers is particularly advantageous from this point of view.
  • the PNC has the advantage of better resistance to fire and cloud. Note that in order to reduce the price of the pallet according to the present invention, the plastic material may be wholly or partly of the recycled plastic material.
  • the spacers according to the present invention are preferably also based on an extrudable plastic material (loaded or not).
  • This plastic material can be the same as that which constitutes the tray (s), or another.
  • the spacers are made with the same plastic material as the plate (s).
  • all (or) plastic material (s) used for the pallet according to the present invention is recycled plastic material.
  • the spacers according to the present invention may be based on a material other than a plastic, for example cardboard, wood or metal. Wood works well.
  • the pallet according to the present invention comprises skis (as defined above), these can also be either plastic, cardboard, metal or wood.
  • the present invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a pallet as described above, by extruding hollow sections constituting the plate or plates and the spacers, and by assembling them.
  • This assembly can be done by any technique suitable for assembling plastic parts: bonding, welding, riveting, etc.
  • this assembly takes place by bonding.
  • the adhesives used for this purpose are preferably based on a crosslinkable resin (for example, in ambient air such as a polyurethane resin (PUR)) and / or a solvent (tetrahydrofuran (THF)).
  • An advantage of the method according to the present invention lies in its simplicity and in the reduced number of profiles to be extruded and assembled.
  • the advantageous variant which consists in choosing spacers in the form of pieces of tubes cut into studs, it suffices to choose a few profile widths and a few tube diameters to obtain a whole range of pallets.
  • the profiles which constitute the plates are open on the sides, it is advantageous to also provide closure profiles which will be clipped or welded to the open profiles. These closure profiles can be extradited or injected, depending on their shape. They are preferably made from the same plastic material as that of the open profiles.
  • the spacers are pieces of tubes, it may prove advantageous (as explained above) to also complete them with one or more extruded or injected parts promoting assembly and / or support of the loads. .
  • the extrusion of hollow sections and spacers is generally carried out by shaping the plastic material through a die provided with passage orifices.
  • the pallet (s) of the pallet, and possibly also the spacers thereof include partitions which do not necessarily have a uniform wall thickness within the same cross section. of the profile. Consequently, - 6
  • the present invention also relates to a die for the extrusion of hollow profiles as described above and comprising channels for the formation of partitions not having a homogeneous wall thickness through the same cross section in the profile, from one partition to another and / or within the same partition.
  • the pallets according to the present invention are particularly advantageous for supporting heavy loads, for example of a ton and more.
  • they generally meet the standards for mechanical resistance to impact and bending (ISO 8611 and ISO / TR 10233) used in the field under a load of one ton, preferably for a low weight (25 kg max . most of the time).
  • the present invention also relates to a pallet as described above and which meets the requirements of standard ISO / TR 10233 (1989) during a bending test in accordance with standard ISO 8611 (1991) under a load. static of at least one ton.
  • Example 1 The present invention is illustrated in a nonlimiting manner by the examples below.
  • Example 1 The present invention is illustrated in a nonlimiting manner by the examples below.
  • Example 1 The present invention is illustrated in a nonlimiting manner by the examples below.
  • a rigid PVC pallet consisting of two crossed and superimposed trays provided with I-shaped partitions, supported by 9 sections of tube modified by the addition of injected parts giving them the shape of cartons, and connected together by 9 skis (so as to obtain a symmetrical structure), was tested in bending according to, ISO standard 8611 (1991) under a static load of one ton and at room temperature.
  • a back view of this pallet is shown in Figure 3, and a side view, in Figure 4.
  • the deflection measured was 13 mm and the return (either the deflection measured subsequently, by reducing the load to 100 kg (or 0.1 times the nominal load) and maintaining it for one hour ) was 2 mm.
  • the maximum values to be not exceed according to ISO / TR 10233 (1989) are respectively 24 and 10 mm for this pallet, taking into account its dimensions.
  • Comparative example 4 A hollow polyethylene pallet sold by the company WAVIN injected in a single block and of which the plates do not include substantially flat parallel elements, but only partitions describing a square mesh, was tested as in the example 3. A back view of this pallet (that is to say spacers and skis) is shown in Figure 5, and a side view, in Figure 6.
