Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a security paper comprising a security zone, a method for producing such a paper and a device for implementing this method.
  • the weakened zone is designed in such a way that any mechanical aggression of its surface causes irreversible damage, such as the drilling of the paper or a linting of its surface, preventing any modification of the information inscribed on said weakened zone.
  • One of the known methods for producing a weakened zone is to perform abrasion or cutting halfway through the area, after the manufacture of the paper sheet, as proposed in the document EP-A-0 543 528 .
  • Another known method is to simultaneously form two layers of paper by the bi-jet technique, one of the layers being provided with a window, the other not.
  • the two assembled layers provide a sheet of paper provided with a window of smaller thickness and greater fragility.
  • the sheet made in two-jet has the disadvantage that its weakened zone must be fragile enough to fulfill its function of safety zone, but must nevertheless be able to withstand the manipulations involved in the industrial production of the sheet.
  • the paper manufacturer must therefore find the best compromise between these two requirements.
  • the weakened area can not extend over a large area, at the risk of tearing at the first opportunity, when used as security paper.
  • the present invention aims to provide a security paper comprising a safety zone, which is a simple and economical embodiment.
  • the present invention thus relates to a security paper as defined in claim 1.
  • the security zone is admittedly slightly weakened relative to the rest of the paper, but not so much as to compromise the strength of the paper.
  • the parts of the paper located between the cells constitute a reinforcement for the safety zone, so that even if it extends over a large area, this reinforcement provides it with sufficient strength.
  • the safety zone can thus occupy a large part of the sheet.
  • the role of the cells is not only to weaken the paper, but also to form traps for the ink materializing information carried on the security zone.
  • the ink becomes difficult to reach, either by scratching or scrubbing.
  • the invention also addresses the already-mentioned problem of falsification by cutting the safety zone into the thickness of the paper.
  • the safety zone always has, at the bottom of its cells, the ink deposited for the registration of the security information.
  • the cells can be distributed according to a network.
  • the safety zone may comprise between 1 and 20, preferably between 2 and 10, cells per cm 2 .
  • the area occupied by the cells and any connecting portions corresponds to at least 50% of the total area of the safety zone.
  • the depth of the cells is 50 to 90%, and preferably 70 to 80%, of the maximum thickness of the paper around the cells, in the safety zone.
  • All the cells can have substantially the same depth.
  • the paper obtained by virtue of the invention has the advantage of being free of protruding parts, such as embossings or embossings, which is particularly advantageous for the printing operations, both in the safety zone and on the surface. rest of its surface.
  • each cell locally confers on the paper a surface mass of fibrous composition lower than that of the paper around the cell.
  • Each cell can thus be more transparent than its immediate vicinity, in the absence of ink.
  • the cells on the surface of the safety zone as raster points of a raster image, for example by varying the shape, number and / or size and / or distribution of the cells in different parts of the safety zone, one can obtain a macroscopic effect that reconstructs a multitone watermark.
  • the cells and any binding portions are on the paper, observed in light transmitted before printing, clear areas, the latter being delimited by dark areas.
  • the light areas and the dark areas advantageously define a halftone image.
  • this raster image has raster points formed by lines.
  • the light areas are not disjoint, which allows for the watermark by means of a perforated monobloc grid, as will be explained below.
  • the sheets of paper can be processed without the need to provide shims to compensate for local oversize.
  • the paper according to the invention is particularly simple to manufacture, thanks to the method, which is also the subject of the present invention, which is characterized in that it comprises the step of providing a fabric used during the wet phase of forming the paper of a set of masks able to create in a zone of the paper located at the right of the masks at the time of formation of the paper, a set of cells formed in the thickness of the paper.
  • the above set of masks makes it possible to obtain a recessed relief on an area of the paper constituting the safety zone.
  • This relief is formed in the paper because the masks that are present on the canvas limit the accumulation of cellulosic, synthetic or mineral fibers of the aqueous suspension used for the manufacture of paper.
  • the corresponding parts of the paper constitute the cells and the rest of the paper, especially the regions formed between the masks of the network, has a thickness substantially equal to that of a paper without cells.
  • the subject fabric constitutes the paper forming fabric.
  • the fabric in question serves to lift the formed sheet.
  • the fabric in question is attached to a wet press that works the sheet still wet after lifting.
  • the fabric in question is attached to a filigree roller.
  • the subject fabric is attached to a graining element located outside the forming zone of the sheet.
  • the web may, for example, be on a round-shaped paper machine or on a flat-table paper machine.
  • the set of masks may be on the inner face of the fabric, in its thickness or on the outer face of the fabric, several canvases may be associated.
  • the network of masks is on one side of the fabric rather than in its thickness.
  • the set of masks is constituted by a monobloc grid, resulting from a thin plate, in which have been made openings, for example hexagonal and arranged in a regular network.
  • the parts of the grid remaining between the holes constitute the masks of the network.
  • the density of the holes is determined by those skilled in the art according to the basis weight of the paper and its composition. It will be sought to establish an advantageous compromise between the desire to obtain a maximum area of cells and the need to maintain the framework of the safety zone, thanks to the reinforcement formed by the parts of the paper surrounding the cells.
  • this solution improves the protection of the ink housed at the bottom of the cells, because the narrowness of the latter makes the ink difficult to access.
  • the set of masks is constituted by a juxtaposition of small parts fixed individually to the fabric.
  • the masks are at least partly shaped in a pattern particular for customizing the sheet of paper, creating in the thickness thereof the cells taking the pattern masks.
  • each pattern may form a letter or set of letters possibly characteristic of the issuer of the security document established from the sheet according to the invention.
  • the set of masks constituted or not by a grid forms in itself a particular pattern, thanks to an arrangement of its masks or to a local modification of the shape or size of the masks in some parts of the network.
  • the set of masks can be obtained from a raster image, and restore on the paper shades of tones by a juxtaposition of light and dark areas.
  • Such a halftone image advantageously comprises raster points in the form of a line, these lines having a variable width along their length, possibly zero in places, the lines being furthermore arranged in such a way that there is no portion of totally isolated line; a grid can easily be made by photogravure from such an image, the openings of this grid corresponding to the dark areas of the watermark.
  • a security document 1 such as a banknote, made from cellulosic fibers and having a security zone 2 shown schematically by a broken line rectangle.
  • the security zone 2 may be of any size and extends over only a portion of the document.
  • the safety zone 2 comprises a network of cells 3.
  • Each cell 3 is hollowed out in the thickness of the document 1, as can be seen in FIG. figure 2 .
  • the thickness of the paper in the regions 4 surrounding the cells 3 is substantially constant and equal to the thickness of the paper outside the security zone 2.
  • the density of the paper, at the level of the cells 3, is less than the density of the paper at the regions 4 above.
  • the cells 3 appear in the clear and the regions 4 appear darker than the cells 3.
  • a network 5 of elementary masks 6, such as that represented on FIG. figure 3 is formed.
  • the elementary masks 6 are interconnected by bridges 7 of small width.
  • the network 5 is made in one-piece form, for example by cutting or etching a thin plate of metal or plastic.
  • the network 5 is used in association with a fabric 8, which is schematically represented on the figure 6 , this fabric 8 being, for example, a web known per se, used conventionally during the wet phase of forming the paper from an aqueous suspension of cellulosic fibers.
  • the network 5 is preferably constituted, as is the case of the example described, by a metal grid fixed on the outer face of the fabric 8, that is to say the face which is in contact with the suspension aqueous cellulosic fiber.
  • each elementary mask 6 limits the accumulation of cellulosic fibers suspended at the level of the fabric and creates a cell in the paper zone located in line with this elementary mask.
  • the bridges 7 create recessed connection portions on the sheet, which are not shown on the figure 1 for the sake of clarity of the drawing.
  • the security zone of the sheet obtained can be printed by known printing techniques, in particular laser with all types of inks, visible in daylight or fluorescent.
  • the image obtained is difficult to erase because the ink remains trapped in the bottom of the cells.
  • the network 5 of masks is replaced, in an embodiment variant not illustrated, by a grid having openings, this grid being obtained from a halftone image.
