Abstract

An inking plate for a rotary printing machine mounting on a cylinder is provided. The inking plate is formed of at least a base plate (11) and a PVC composition material of at least one layer (15; 27) deposited on said base plate (11) over a majority of the surface of the base plate (11). The surface of the deposited material is designed to be cut so as to define relief surfaces (16) having limits corresponding to the outlines of surfaces to be inked. The cutting of the deposited material occurs when the base plate (11) is held in a cylindrical form so as to permit mounting on the cylinder without substantial deformation, from an as-cut state, of the base plate (11) or the deposited material.

Description

The present invention relates to an inking plate for rotary printing machine, intended to be mounted on a cylinder, formed at least of a plate of base and material deposited on said plate, said material being intended to be cut into zones in relief whose contours correspond to those of surfaces to be inked. The present invention relates to also a printing machine comprising such a printing plate mounted on a cylinder and a process for producing such a plate.

These inking plates mounted on cylinders are known in the field of machines rotary printing whatsoever for inking direct or indirect. In the case of indirect inking, a collector-inking cylinder is used on which the necessary ink is transferred from cylinders selectors, also called ink cylinders. Each of these cylinders, inkers is associated with an inkwell determined and therefore to a given color. The collecting cylinder then transfers the ink corresponding to the different colors on the plates printing. In the case of direct inking in however, the ink is transferred to the plates printing directly from the ink cylinders, without using a collecting cylinder.

Inking cylinders, in a manner known in the art anterior, have a hard material surface, for example plastic, metal or hard rubber, this surface being cut so as to form zones in relief whose contours correspond exactly to those of the areas to be printed in a given color. These raised areas are formed by known means of cutting, for example the laser. Such rollers inkers are described for example in the request for European patent EP 0 406 157 or in the US patent 5,282,417 which shows such mounted ink rollers in a printing machine using both direct and indirect inking techniques.

This type of ink cylinder nevertheless has disadvantages. In particular, when they are worn, that is to say when the raised areas are worn, it it is necessary to disassemble the cylinders from the machine printing, to re-deposit a layer of material plastic or other around its circumference, to cut to again the desired raised areas and finally reassemble the cylinders in the machine which requires make long and complicated adjustments to find a correct register of the different prints on the collector-inking cylinder or on the plate cylinder.

A first solution to remedy some of these disadvantages is to use plates ink system with a photopolymer coating mount on cylinders replacing cylinders known inkers. We can thus prepare these plates independently, in particular by forming the zones in relief using a photoengraving process, but these photopolymeric plates also have disadvantages. On the one hand, we must mention the fact that the creation of raised areas must be done flat so that these raised areas are distorted when mounting the plates on the cylinder. It is therefore essential to take this deformation into account during the creation of the raised areas. In addition, the diameter of the cylinders on which the plates will be climbs also has an influence on the deformation. The service life of these photopolymer plates, in addition to their price is also unfavorable. Indeed, and in particular in processes using the principle direct inking of the printing plate, the temperature may be high, the service life of these photopolymer plates is much lower than that of the ink cylinders mentioned above. Moreover, photopolymeric material has elasticity lower than that of the materials used for inking cylinders so that inking is sometimes insufficient, especially in a direct inking process.

The object of the invention is to improve the systems known inks.

More particularly, the invention aims to offer an inking plate that addresses disadvantages of known plates.

The invention also aims to propose a method for producing such an inking plate, a cylinder inking bearing such an inking plate and a rotary printing machine using such inking plate.

The inking plate according to the invention is defined by the characterizing part of claim 1.

The advantages of the plate according to the invention are numerous. On the one hand, we can mention the fact that such plates are significantly less expensive to produce and their lifespan is much longer than that of photopolymeric plates. In addition, their manufacturing is much simpler since the areas in relief are created on plates mounted on cylinders so that these areas are not deformed when installing the plates in a machine printing.

Claims 2 to 6 define modes specific execution of the inking plate.

Independent claim 7 defines a cylinder printing machine inker comprising at least one anchor plate according to the invention, and claim independent 8 a printing machine comprising at minus such a cylinder.

Independent claim 9 defines a method of production of a plate according to the invention.

The invention will be better understood by the description of a mode of execution of this and the figures therein relate.

Figure 5 is a block diagram illustrating the method of production of an inking plate according to the invention.

The printing machine shown in Figure 1 is a convertible intaglio printing machine which allows the use of a direct inking process or indirect. This machine includes three modules I, II and III, direct inking being carried out in module I which includes a printing cylinder 1, a cylinder plate holder 2, a wiping cylinder 3 and a cylinder ink pad 4 associated with an ink pad 5. Indirect ink is achieved by modules II and III, which include a collector-inking cylinder 6 inked by cylinders inkers 7 located in module II associated with inkwells 8. Thus, for indirect inking, the patterns corresponding to the raised areas of the cylinders inkers 7 are collected on the collector-ink cylinder 6 then are transferred from this cylinder manifold 6 on the plate cylinder 2. Such a rotary printing machine is known from US patent 5,282,417 for example, incorporated by reference into the this request.

An inking plate according to the invention is shown in section in FIG. 2. This inking plate 10 is consisting of a base plate 11, preferably in metal for example stainless steel, having two ends 12, 13 provided for its attachment to a cylinder 17 (see figure 3). On base plate 11, we first deposited a layer of glue 14 which covers the surface of the plate 11 with the exception of the two ends 12, 13 used for fixing. Over this layer of glue 14, a first layer 26 was then deposited of a first composition of PVC and over this first layer 26, a second layer 15 is deposited a second PVC composition in which reliefs 16 have been carved. These reliefs 16 exactly match the plate patterns which must be inked in a specific color.

Figure 3 illustrates, schematically, the plate inking 10 mounted on an inking cylinder 17. The plate 10, which corresponds to that of FIG. 2, includes the base plate 11, the adhesive layer 14, the two layers 26 and 15 of PVC, reliefs 16 having were cut in layer 15. The ends 12 and 13 of base plate 11 are held in a pit 18 of cylinder 17 by an appropriate fixing system, for example pliers (not shown). The system for fixing plates to a cylinder is known in the field of rotary printing machines. As for example, patent EP 0 403 434, which is incorporated with reference to the present application, shows such fixing system for mounting in the pit of a plate cylinder.

Such an inking cylinder 17 is then mounted in a printing machine as shown in figure 1, preferably in place of cylinder 4 for direct inking, as shown above.

The base plate 11 is mounted on this preparation cylinder 20 and maintained in position by a clamp system, shown schematically by the reference 23, located in the pit 21 of said cylinder 20. The clamp system used can be the one described above or any other system equivalent. Said pit 21 is then closed by a cover 24 to prevent glue and PVC from entering enter. The cover 24 is fixed by screws 25 or by other equivalent means. We deposit the layer of glue 14 on the surface of the base plate 11 except on the surface of the cover 24. In the case shown in this figure, we have deposited only one and only PVC layer 27: this plate configuration corresponds to use in an inking process indirect. In this case, the outer layer of PVC 27 is harder than layer 15 of Figures 2 and 3, for plates used in a direct inking process. The absence of glue on the cover 24 means that the PVC layer does not adhere on it and to remove the plate 10, it suffices to cut longitudinally, in the axial direction of cylinder 20, the PVC along the edges of the cover to remove layers of PVC covering said cover 24. It is then possible undo the means for fixing the cover 24 and access the fixing means 23 of the plate 10 on cylinder 20 and remove plate 10.

It is possible to cut the reliefs 16 (see figure 2 and 3) either directly on the cylinder preparation 20, or in a specific machine by removing the plate 10 from its support 20 and by going up on a similar cylinder in the machine specific.

  • montage d'une plaque de base sur un cylindre de préparation et fixation par des moyens appropriés;
  • couverture des moyens de fixation par un couvercle;
  • dépôt d'une couche de colle sur la surface de la plaque de base sauf sur le couvercle;
  • dépôt d'au moins une couche de PVC sur la couche de colle et sur le couvercle;
  • découpe de la couche de PVC située sur le couvercle;
The method for producing an inking plate according to the invention comprises the following steps:
  • mounting a base plate on a preparation cylinder and fixing by appropriate means;
  • covering the fixing means by a cover;
  • depositing a layer of glue on the surface of the base plate except on the cover;
  • depositing at least one layer of PVC on the adhesive layer and on the cover;
  • cutting of the PVC layer located on the cover;
  • dismantling of the cover and removal of the plate.

This process is illustrated in Figure 5 by a block diagram with the different stages.

Preferably, use a glue of the Decorral type HF (trade name), however other adhesives equivalents are possible.

Examples of PVC compositions are as follows.

Preferably, the applied thickness of the layer 15 of PVC will be 5 mm which can be deposited in two consecutive phases, each corresponding to a thickness of about 2.5 mm. Once this layer deposited and the cylinder cooled, we can correct the surface before depositing the second layer of PVC.

The thickness of layer 26 or 27 can be 3 mm about.

The embodiments of the invention are given in example title and variations as part of the protection as claimed in the claims are possible. For example, depending on the size of the plates and the dimension ink cylinders, you can mount more than one plate per cylinder. It can even be particularly interesting and beneficial to match the number of inking plates with the number of plates to ink: all the plates being fixed using clamp systems, we can then match the pliers passages of each cylinder, ink and plate holder, and thus optimize the use of plate surfaces. Likewise, the thickness of the layers PVC can be varied depending on the circumstances.
