Definitions

  • the invention relates to a toothbrush consisting of a brush head with bristle bundles arranged in an elongated bristle bed and a handle which is connected to the bristle bed via a connecting part, the bristle bundles having a length which varies in the longitudinal direction of the bristle bed.
  • EP 0 619 711 B1 therefore discloses a sinusoidal profile of the bristle bundles of a toothbrush running in the longitudinal direction of the bristle bed, in which the points of maximum amplitude essentially coincide with the gaps formed between the teeth of the user. All bristles have rounded ends to prevent damage to teeth and gums from sharp edges. This improves the cleaning performance in the interdental area because the raised bristles can penetrate better into the recesses between the teeth.
  • the object of the invention is to develop a toothbrush with improved cleaning performance, in particular for the interdental spaces, but also for the gumline.
  • first bristle bundles are arranged on the two outer sides of the bristle bed, spliced bristle ends and have essentially the same length and that second bristle bundles are arranged between the two outer sides of the bristle bed, one have a wave-like length in the longitudinal direction of the bristle bed.
  • the gumline Due to the outer first bristle bundle with spliced bristle ends, the gumline is stressed considerably less, so that the user is not afraid to brush with increased pressure, so that a thorough cleaning of the outside of the teeth and especially the interdental spaces is achieved by means of the wave-shaped inner bristles .
  • the spliced bristle ends of the outside bristle bundles clean the gumline particularly gently and thoroughly due to the large number of fine filament ends and distribute the toothpaste particularly effectively on the surface of the tooth and gums.
  • What is essential in the invention is therefore the combination of inner bristles with a wave-like varying length with outer bristles, the ends of which are frayed, that is to say spliced.
  • the first and the second bristle bundles consist of the same or a comparable material, namely of high-quality plastics, in particular of nylon 66 or the like.
  • the diameter of the bristles (filaments) is preferably 0.1 to 0.25 mm, in particular 0.15 to 0.225 mm.
  • Each bristle bundle comprises 40 to 60 bristles, 20 to 30 bristles being preferred in the so-called anchor method.
  • the upper ends of the outer first bristle bundles are arranged above the lowest ends of the inner second bristle bundles.
  • the upper ends of the outer first bristle bundles exceed the highest ends of the inner (short) second bristle bundles by at most 1 mm and in particular extend at most to the highest ends of the inner (long) bristle bundles.
  • the external bristles are short enough to allow the internal bristles to work to clean the interdental areas and the outside of the teeth. If the outer bristles were too long, a "stilt effect” would occur, so that the ends of the inner bristles would no longer have any contact with the outside of the teeth and in particular with the interdental spaces.
  • the outer bristles are long enough to prevent the inner bristles from coming into contact with the gum line.
  • outer bristles with such a minimum length limit the "troughs" formed by the inner bristles, so that the toothpaste applied to the inner bristles is available for longer to improve cleaning performance and does not leave the bristle field as quickly as with conventional toothbrushes.
  • the splicing depth of the outer first bristle bundle is up to 4 mm, in particular up to 2 mm. It is also advantageous if 5 to 10 external bristle bundles are provided per row of bundles.
  • the inner second bristle bundles preferably have a length (cutting height), measured from the base of the bristle to the ends, of 8 to 14 mm, in particular 9 to 12.5 mm. To achieve a particularly good cleaning performance, it is proposed that the difference in length of the second bristle bundle is 1 to 2 mm. In contrast to the spliced ends of the first bristles, the ends of the second bristles are not spliced, but are rounded in order to ensure additional security against injury to the gums.
  • the inner second bristle bundles are arranged in rows running transversely to the longitudinal axis of the bristle bed, 1 to 2 rows of bristle bundles with short bristles, in particular with the same bristle length, with 1 to 2 rows of bristle bundles with long bristles, in particular with same bristle length, alternate.
  • the area of the short bristles, measured in the longitudinal direction of the bristle bed between the adjacent long bristles, should have a length of 6 to 10 mm.
  • the distance between the centers of adjacent bristle bundles, measured at the bristle base, should be 1.5 to 3.5 mm, in particular 2.0 to 3.0 mm. With this distance, such a flexibility of the bristle bundles is achieved when brushing the teeth, which further improves the cleaning performance. It is also preferred that 20 to 30 inner bristle bundles, in particular 23 to 28 bristle bundles, are provided.
  • the ergonomics of the toothbrush is also important for a good cleaning result. This applies in particular to the cleaning of the teeth in the back of the mouth, i.e. the cheek and wisdom teeth.
  • the connecting part between the bristle bed and the handle which is also called the web, should therefore have a diameter of no more than 10 mm.
  • a web with an oval cross section is preferred, the longer axis lying in the plane of the bristle bed and should have a length of 5 to 7 mm.
  • the shorter axis perpendicular to it advantageously has a length of 4 to 6 mm.
  • the ratio of the long to the short axis should be about 1.1 to 1.5 to 1. Since the longer axis lies in the plane of the bristle bed, lateral deflection of the bristle bed when brushing the teeth is hindered, but it is easier for the bristle bed to give way perpendicularly to this plane, so that excessive pressure on the toothbrush is compensated for.
  • the connecting part (the web) can taper from the handle attachment to the attachment of the bristle bed up to 60% of the original diameter.
  • the angle between the bristle bed and the web, on the one hand, and the handle, on the other hand, should be 3 ° to 10 °, in particular 5 ° to 9 °, in terms of the ergonomics of the toothbrush, so that in particular the molars can be reached much more easily.
  • the plane formed by the bristle bed, the web and the handle is preferably perpendicular to the plane of the bristle bed.

  • the toothbrush consists in a known manner essentially of four parts, namely an elongated flat bristle bed 1, which is equipped with 40 bristle bundles 2, 3, 4 and is connected to the handle 6 via a connecting part (web) 5.
